Don’t Need You to Watch Out for Me
Jenny and Alec ended up having a fulfilling night out, both from the food and the conversation.
‘Til drop you off at home. It’s late.” Alec stood up; his anxiety had quietened down after spending time
with Jenny.
Jenny nodded, getting up too. “Yeah. I still need to get on that flight tomorrow.”
On the way back to Alec’s car, Jenny asked, “You didn’t tell Paul
Wagner about my plans here, right?”
Alec frowned, feeling almost hurt by her question. “You don’t…trust me?”
Paul was a dear friend of his, but…
Jenny was the most important person in his life right now.
She shook her head. “I was just teasing. I trust you, Alec. I know you wouldn’t tell him. That’s why I felt
sorry for you.”
Alec tilted his head curiously.
“If it was me, I’d instantly tell my close friends,” Jenny continued. Friends were very important to her.
She didn’t tolerate lying or hiding things in a friendship. “But, I trust my friends not to tell anyone else.”
Alec sighed. “I’m still hurt, Jenny. Are your friends more important to you than I am?”
Jenny giggled. “You’re just my friend right now, too.”
“Huh. Guess I’ll have to work harder,’ Alec chuckled after a moment’s pause. He soon sent her back to
Walter Castle, then left for the office, ready to tackle more work. He hadn’t made any preparations for
returning to Parrington tomorrow-it had been impromptu, after all. But he didn’t feel safe seeing Jenny
go back alone. He knew how Paul could be when angered.
Anything could happen. That was why Alec needed to go back and check up on things.
The next day, Jenny woke up early as always, ready for her flight back. When she went downstairs,
Graham was already having breakfast in the dining room.
What surprised her was that Rowena and Jolene were at the table too.
The two women straightened up when they saw her, eyes narrowing happily like snakes. Jenny
instantly had a bad feeling.
“Good morning. Join us for breakfast,” Graham said.
Jenny went over and sat by his side, ignoring the two women. Still, that didn’t mean they’d give up on
being a pain in her ass.
“It’s been some time since you came to Bardoff City, Jenny. Has any handsome man swept you off your
feet yet? Do tell. I can always give you updates. Word gets around here,” Rowena began, seemingly
genteel. But Jenny wasn’t falling for it. ‘No. That hasn’t been my focus lately.’
“Then do you already have a prospect? Remember to tell your father and I so we can watch out for
you. You must’ve learned your lesson from being divorced once, no?’ Rowena continued.
Jenny rolled her eyes. “I don’t need you to watch out for me. Why don’t you stop digging your nose in
other people’s business and worry about your daughter instead?”
