Did You Give Up?
Alec and Jenny made their way out of Parrington Airport. Back in his territory,
Alec had arranged for them to be picked up outside.
“You wanna go back to your home first?” he asked once they were safe in the car.
“Yeah. That’d be best.’ Jenny nodded. As worried about Stephanie as she was, she couldn’t make any
sudden moves lest Paul overreacted. It might get harder to rescue Stephanie if that happened. Plus,
she hadn’t settled her resignation at the hospital yet.
They soon reached Perry Residence. Jenny stepped out and turned to ask Alec,
‘Aren’t you gonna rest up first?”
“Nah. I still need to look at things at the office. I’ll pick you up for dinner later.”
Alec couldn’t rest now that they were going to move Faust Group headquarters to Bardoff City. They
had deep roots here in Parrington that needed careful unraveling.
Jenny knew about it, too, and was concerned about him. “You really don’t have to do this, you know.
Parrington isn’t so bad, really.’
“It is not so bad, but…there’lI be a lot more distance between you and me.’ Obviously, staying was the
most convenient option, but he couldn’t bear to part with Jenny.
Jenny blinked in surprise, then smiled. ’Take care then.’ She didn’t encourage him to stay because if
one of them stayed and the other went to Bardoff City, their relationship might not work at all.
Additionally, long distances would only breed additional problems, besides the fact that they were
already from different family backgrounds.
Especially if Alec’s workaholism got in the way of their communication.
“I will.” Alec nodded, glad that Jenny wasn’t telling him to stay anymore. To him, it meant Jenny wanted
to be in a relationship with him, too, so he needed to go to Bardoff City with her at all costs.
He soon left for his office while Jenny returned to her apartment. She had missed this place.
Not even an hour since she came home, someone rang her doorbell. When she opened the door, her
face fell.
“What are you doing here? Isn’t the great Mr. Walter busy with work?’ she quipped.
Graham lowered his head slightly. “I’m sorry for what I said this morning, Jenny. I shouldn’t intrude on
your personal business.”
It was the first time he had lowered himself to this stance. But it couldn’t be helped-he needed to do this
to receive Jenny’s forgiveness. Otherwise, he might never see her again. He really didn’t want that to
happen.
Jenny bit her lip, not saying anything.
“But I didn’t mean to intrude. I just wanted to open your eyes to the possibilities. I’m old, and I’ve more
life experience than you. That’s why after you and Alec divorced, I said you two weren’t compatible.
Things might not turn out well even with a second chance.”
Jenny met his gaze now. “Did you give up when all those people tried to persuade you from being with
my mother?”
“No,” Graham answered firmly.
“You didn’t give up because you knew that no matter how tough things might be for both of you, you
still wanted to be with each other,’ Jenny replied, hoping
Graham could see where she was coming from. She couldn’t deny her feelings for Alec, but just
because she didn’t want to be in a relationship with him right now didn’t mean she didn’t like him.
“Jenny, I…” Graham wanted to explain.
“If nothing I say is going to change how you feel, then you can leave now. I can decide what I want to
do with my life on my own.’
No matter what life tossed at her, Jenny would always find a way forward.
