Drag You Down with Me
“Let me make it up to you.” Paul grabbed onto Stephanie’s wrist, stopping her from walking away.
“Some things aren’t that easy to mend,” Stephanie replied.
“I know I messed up before, Stephanie. But I know better now. I know I need to improve, so please,
give me a chance.” Paul said dearly.
In truth, he rarely showed this side of himself, so Stephanie was actually touched by his words. She
loved him once, after all. But still, she remained level-headed. They weren’t compatible. Even if they
dated one another, they’d never have a happy ending.
There was no point in wasting each other’s time.
Shaking loose from Paul’s grip, Stephanie said, “You don’t need me around to improve yourself. You
should be able to do it alone.
“Steph-”
Paul was cut off by his ringtone. He was about to decline when he saw the caller ID. His expression
changed the moment he heard the other person speak.
Stephanie picked up on it instantly. Something told her it wasn’t anything good. But it was none of her
business, right?
With that in mind, Stephanie turned to leave.
“Something’s happened to Jenny,” Paul quickly said. Stephanie stared at him in shock. “What did you
say?’
Paul gnawed on the inside of his cheek, waiting for the other person to finish talking before hanging up.
“Someone’s installed bombs at Jenny’s event space. She’s being held hostage right now too. I need to
go. We can continue this some other time.”
Paul wasn’t giving up, but he couldn’t stay either. He had to go help rescue some folks from being
blasted into bits. More specifically, Alec, of course.
“I’m coming with you.” Stephanie wasn’t going to sit back and wait while Jenny was in danger.
Paul frowned. “No. It’s too dangerous.”
“That’s why I need to come with you.” Before Paul could stop her, she had gone to his car, refusing to
be held back.
Paul grunted and went over. He knew how Stephanie could be. She’d drive over herself if he didn’t let
her come. So he might as well have her close by to watch out for her.
The two swiftly made it to the hotel, where Randy was screaming at Jenny.
“You’re right! I have nothing I want from any single one of you whatsoever. I’m just here to drag all of
you down to hell with me!” he yelled, the detonator in his hand particularly eye-catching as he flung his
arms around.
The audience’s hearts were in their throats, stepping back to avoid being in the blast zone, regardless
of where else Randy had planted bombs.
Jenny stayed calm, however. She could easily overpower Randy, but she was worried she couldn’t
retrieve the detonator in time and send everyone to their deaths. Just as she deliberated on what to do,
a red dot suddenly appeared on Randy’s shoulder before swiftly disappearing.
