“Kevin York has no shame. Mr. Hayden is giving him the cold shoulder, but he just clings to Mr. Hayden
to no end.”
Emma looked over at Kevin and commented, “Kevin has advantages over you all. He’s a guy, and I
mean, a guy of power and wealth. The Queen Enterprise would think twice before making York
Corporation their enemy. Mr. Hayden’s bodyguards couldn’t even stop Kevin.”
It only fueled Celine’s jealousy further.
After taking another large gulp of red wine, Celine asked Emma, “Where’s Caroline?”
“I don’t know where she’s hiding. I didn’t see her.”
Emma did not take to Caroline.
For starters, Caroline grew up in a rural area. Sure, Caroline had a natural grace to her. It did not take
much dressing up for Caroline to outshine Celine now that the former was back in her rightful place
with the Fisher family.
Still, Emma could not stand Caroline, getting the idea that Caroline was sly.
Caroline behaved discreetly and meekly in the Fishers’ residence, but she quietly chipped away at the
limited authority her older brother, Adrian, had. Emma was not having it.
Emma would egg Celine on to take power from Caroline, insisting that Celine had always been raised
to be the next head. Although Celine had no blood ties to the Fisher family, Madam Fisher had adopted
her as a daughter. So, Celine was the eldest daughter in the family.
Celine was older than Caroline by ten minutes.
As Emma saw things, these two sisters-in-law could fall into a power struggle while her man could sit
back and reap the rewards. It was common for the inheritance to be left to the sons, but the Fishers
were a little different in terms of handing the role of the leader to the eldest daughter. Most of the
company shares were in the head of the household’s possession too.
All the men in the house were most unhappy with the unorthodox tradition, and they had been tempted
to go against the grain.
Madam Fisher would have no daughters if Celine and Caroline were dead. In that case, Madam Fisher
would have no choice but to leave the position to the son. It was not as though Madam Fisher would let
the daughters of the extended family inherit the family businesses.
Emma believed her wicked and controlling mother-in-law would never allow anyone from the extended
family to be the family head.
Her mother-in-law would get rid of the other ladies in the extended family if her daughters were out of
the picture. With no more women left in the family, Madam Fisher would have to change the rules and
pass the leadership to her son.
Emma’s husband was the firstborn son of the Fishers. Emma believed the position of the family head
would go to her husband, Adrian, if her mother-in-law changed the rules.
“Emma, Caroline would befriend the ladies whose ties are beneficial to her. Keep an eye on her for me.
Don’t let her get close to these ladies.”
Celine took another gulp of wine before curtly uttering, “They don’t think I’m worthy enough to be in
their circle now. but Caroline can forget befriending them too.”
“I’ll keep an eye. They are dancing now. You should invite Mr. Hayden to hit the dance floor.”
Emma saw everybody put on their dancing shoes as the music played. She urged Celine to ask
Hayden for a dance.
Without a word, Celine approached Hayden with a wine glass in hand.
Kevin was getting on Hayden’s nerves. Standing before Hayden, Kevin extended his hand out to invite
her for a dance.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Kevin. I have a dance partner.”
Hayden callously rejected Kevin.
Kevin asked with a smile, “Can I know who your dance partner is?”
Hugh popped out, but before he could say anything, Kevin and Hayden pushed him away.
He was lost for words.
What did he do wrong?
All Hugh was trying to do was come to his sister’s rescue. He understood why Kevin pushed him away,
but he could not believe that his sister did the same to him too.
“Go and get your own fun, Hugh.”
Hayden said before finishing her drink. After handing her glass to her bodyguard, Hayden got up and
walked past Kevin to get to Caroline, who was enjoying good food in a corner.
As Hayden was the most popular “man” in Jensburg, every move of hers caught the attention of many.
