“Where’s Duncan now?” Zachary asked with concern. “I’ll go see him.”
“Mr. Duncan is alone in the backyard, and he doesn’t allow anyone to go there. He said he wants to be
alone for a while and doesn’t want to be disturbed.”
Zachary hesitated for a moment but still followed the housekeeper into the house. After greeting
Duncan’s parents, he stood up and said to them, “Mr. and Mrs. Lewis, I'll go find Duncan."
Derek nodded. “Go ahead. You’re his best friend. He might be willing to see you.”
“Zack, please talk some sense into Duncan, and tell him to calm down. As soon as he was discharged
from the hospital, he wanted to stand up and walk by himself. He couldn’t do rehabilitation yet, but he
was anxiously eager to start.”
Distressed, Corey felt worried and added, “I’m afraid that if he’s so impatient, it might backfire on him.”
Zachary agreed. “I’ll talk to Duncan.
“I'm going to look for Duncan in the backyard.”
Zachary walked out of the main house toward the direction of the backyard.
He was very familiar with Westwood Manor as he often visited. Zachary went to the backyard by
himself without needing anyone to guide him.
Duncan was practicing walking on a piece of lawn in the backyard.
His leg had not fully recovered, and he had to endure the piercing pain every time he stood up. Duncan
gritted his teeth while enduring the pain on his trembling legs as he was struggling to take a step
forward. With his foot planted on the grass, he had to endure bursts of pain before he could stand still
and move his other leg.
Sometimes after just two steps, he would collapse on the lawn.
He chose to walk on grass as he would not feel too much pain even if he fell.
He had to get up every time he fell. Although it was exhausting Duncan kept getting up no matter how
many times he fell.
He sweated buckets just to be able to stand and walk on his feet once again.
His face was sickeningly pale as what he had been through was very arduous.
Untouched, his crutches were left lying on the corner of the lawn.
The lawn was enclosed with evergreen shrubs, which have been trimmed by the gardeners to
resemble animals. When Duncan fell onto the ground, Zachary could not see him in his field of vision.
Zachary stopped walking when he vaguely saw Duncan’s wheelchair as he passed by the lawn. As he
entered the area, he saw Duncan crawling on the ground. He was sprawled on the ground, with his
face planted on the grassy field.
Perhaps he was exhausted and did not have the energy to stand back up again.
He quickly noticed that Zachary had arrived.
As soon as he turned his head and saw Zachary, he struggled to get up from the ground.
“Duncan.”
Zachary rushed to help him up.
“Don’t help me! I can stand up by myself.”
Duncan immediately berated his good friend, not allowing Zachary to lend him a hand.
Zachary could only stand by his side, watching painfully as Duncan struggled with all his might just to
get up from the ground. Zachary hurriedly got the wheelchair for Duncan to sit on.
At the sight of Duncan being deathly pale and drenched in sweat, Zachary wanted to give him a napkin.
However, he realized that he did not bring one after searching his pockets.
