“I don’t want to go back. I have to face my mother and whenever I see her feeling guilty, it makes me
feel terrible,” Duncan said.
What he said was true.
He did not blame his mother because he was the one who drove too fast, hence causing his crash.
However, his mother took the blame and believed it was her fault that he was wheelchaired.
When he found out about how severe his condition was, he could not accept it either and his hot
temper exacerbated the situation with his mother.
“I understand Mrs. Lewis’s guilt. I mean, not even your mother, even people who are not involved will
feel guilty just by the look of it. You should talk to your mother, maybe things will get better.”
He broke it, so he should fix it himself. It was a matter between the mother and son, no outsiders had
the right to intervene.
“I’ve said I don’t blame her, but she still acts the same way. I see her drowned in her guilt, crying in
silence and it irritates me. That’s why I want to be out here, I want to have some fresh air. Even if I
have to stay here for the whole day, it’s better to be at home with her.”
More importantly, he was wheelchair bound and it caused him to be short-tempered.
Her mother’s guilt would only trigger his temper, causing him to lash out at his parents. From there, his
parents would feel worse and the relationship would be ruined. No one would benefit from the vicious
cycle.
Therefore, he got out of the house. Maybe his parents could feel better with his absence.
“Liberty, you go back to your work. You can just leave me here.”
Liberty smiled. “Okay, I’ll go do some work first. If you need anything, just call me. I’ll come and help.”
Duncan said, “Can you help me get my bodyguards from inside? You can just concentrate on your
work, you don’t need to entertain me. I’m just an idle person.”
Ever since he was discharged, he had not gone back to Lewis & Co.
He was in no condition or had the mood to run a company.
When he truly made peace with his heart, even if he was wheelchair bound for life, he would accept it
and return to his company as a crippled CEO.
Liberty did as requested. She called the bodyguard from inside to look after Duncan and went back to
her work.
…
Back at Jensburg, Kevin’s car stopped in front of the entrance of Queen Enterprise. He then pulled his
phone out to call Hayden.
When the call got through, he said to Hayden, “Mr. Queen, can you come down? I have something for
you.”
Hayden frowned. She wondered if Kevin had a proper job, or else why would he have the time to go
around all day every day?
He might not need to work but she was busy.
“Mr. York, I’m having a meeting.”
Hayden grunted. “I can’t go out now. What is this about? Why don’t you come inside?”
Kevin chuckled. “I was interrupting? Okay, I’ll come in. When you are done with your meeting, I will
present the gift that I prepared for you.”
Hayden’s eyelid twitched.
She looked calm but she lowered her voice, “You have a gift for me? Why?”
He said before that she helped him, so in order to repay the debt of gratitude, he had to give her
something.
Yesterday, a Sunday, she gave him a chance by allowing him to bring her to dinner.
Now that they were even, why would he still prepare a gift for her?
Hayden started to feel annoyed by Kevin’s persistence.
“Nothing special. I just want to give you a present. You go on with your meeting, Mr. Queen, I’m driving
into your company’s parking lot.”
Kevin then hung up the phone.
