Hayden callously turned down the offer. “I don’t want to drink with you, Ms. Celine. Excuse me.”
Surrounded by her security detail, Hayden walked past Celine.
As Hayden brushed past, Celine cried out to Hayden, but Hayden refused to give her the time of the
day. Hayden simply walked on.
Celine stamped her foot in rage.
Although the Fishers were not the wealthiest in Jensburg, the family was in the circle of the rich and
powerful. People would always suck up to her every time she attended social events.
Celine was no short of suitors, but these men were merely on their parents’ bankroll and had nothing to
show for it.
Her privileged life with the Fishers gave Celine her arrogance, so Celine believed she deserved better
than these men who were living off their parents. Still, all the good and remarkable men out there
steered clear of Celine because they knew they would have to take the Fishers’ last name rather than
vice versa.
Only these incapable trust babies would go for the future head of the Fisher household.
Like Hayden’s other admirers, Celine would not get Hayden off her mind after meeting her in person.
Celine had been watching Hayden in the dark since then and fell hard for her.
In the past, Hayden would nod, respond, and sometimes engage a little with Celine.
Sure, Celine was still treated like a princess and no lesser than Caroline at home since the reveal of
her identity. A lot had changed now that Celine was no longer the heiress of the Fisher family.
The successor of the Fisher family was no longer Celine but Caroline.
The family members favored Caroline. Apparently, Caroline presented herself with class and grace as
a successor should.
The way Celine saw it, Caroline was timid and weak; class and grace were not Caroline’s attributes.
Celine believed the only reason some family businesses had not gone bankrupt under Caroline’s
leadership was that the senior executives were helping her. Otherwise, a country bumpkin like Caroline
had no means to manage businesses on her own.
The thing Celine could not stand the most was people’s attitude toward her and Caroline at social
parties.
Celine was supposed to be the heiress of the Fishers. In fact, Mom had taken her as an adopted
daughter. Mom would often bring her along to social or business engagements, and yet everybody
started to turn their backs on her.
It was because she was not the true heiress of the Fishers. Celine would not be the future head of the
Fisher household.
After taking a large gulp of alcohol, Celine gruffly muttered, “You’re mine, Hayden! Even if I can’t have
you, I won’t let you and Caroline be together.”
Caroline took a fancy to Hayden too, and Celine could tell.
Celine was jealous of Hayden’s shining to Caroline. Hayden always spoke tenderly with Caroline and
looked at her with admiration.
“Cece.”
With someone calling her name, Celine turned to the approaching woman. It was Emma, her sister-in-
law.
“Emma.”
Celine walked to Emma and asked, “What’s the matter?”
“Mom asked about you since she didn’t see you anywhere. She told me to look for you. Why are you
standing here and drinking by yourself? Everybody is trying to approach Mr. Hayden. Yet here you are,
drinking alone in a corner.”
Emma then switched to a muffled tone, “You no longer have the burden of the household, so your
husband doesn’t have to take the family name. It gives you an edge over Caroline. For a man like Mr.
Hayden, he will never marry into the Fisher family.”
While Emma meant well, Celine heard it as she was no longer worthy to be the head of the household
and that she should hurry up and marry herself off unless she wanted to depend on Caroline for a
living.
Pulling a straight face, Celine replied, “Mr. Hayden doesn’t like women throwing themselves at him. Not
one admirer ever succeeded in getting close to Mr. Hayden.”
Celine took notice of Kevin standing next to Hayden. The guy always had a way to get close to
Hayden, and it filled Celine with envy and jealousy.
If they were not love rivals, Celine would want to pick Kevin’s brain for a few pointers.

Of the Gu Lingfei stories I have ever read, perhaps the most impressive thing is Married at First
