Clayton said, “Do you think the awards reception is just a summary and commendation ceremony?
This is another investment promotion. The organizers would want nothing more than to replace all of
the nominees with celebrities with huge followings, but if they do that, everyone will look at them like
they’re watching a farce. That’s why there are people from the acting circle here.”
Nicole glanced at him. “You’re quite knowledgeable.”
“It’s all thanks to you.”
Clayton had really studied the entertainment industry some time ago in order to get close to her.
However, the risk was too great. It was even riskier than the stock market. If a scandal of a celebrity
spread, the capital behind them would definitely be implicated.
However, humans were creatures with emotions, and they sought out pleasures. How would they be as
stable as a product?
Moreover, this circle was too dirty.
As soon as Clayton hinted that he wanted to invest, people started to throw all sorts of women at him. It
was just disgusting.
Thus, Clayton gave up investing in the entertainment industry.
However, he never mentioned any of this to Nicole before, afraid of polluting her ears.
The guest of honor began to announce the winner for the Best Actor award, and the music also
changed into a drumroll.
The drumbeat was suspenseful and hypnotic.
“The award for Best Actor goes to… Joseph Valencia!” The whole audience was shocked.
Everyone looked at each other.
The applause only started sparsely under the host’s prompt, but the actors who had some fame in the
circle sat there without moving.
As they sat there, many people were only hearing the name “Joseph Valencia” for the first time.
Best Actor?
It was absolutely ridiculous. Joseph Valencia was that celebrity who acted awkwardly in the short film
and could not even deliver his lines. He defeated the two hottest competitors, an acting veteran and
Harvey Sage, to win the award for Best Actor!
Nicole’s expression became complicated and stiff for a moment as if she was forced to eat a mouthful
of greasy cake and she had nowhere to spit it out.
She sat in her chair, but she looked like she could not bear to continue sitting much longer. Clayton
patted her hand and soothed her emotions. “Don’t rush. Since it’s come to this point, at least finish
watching before you leave.”
Nicole gritted her teeth. “If this was my house, I’d have smashed this venue!” It was supposed to be a
proper awards ceremony, but it just ended up making her feel revolted. The actors below also smiled
but did not say anything.
When the cameras filmed the people below, everyone’s micro-expressions were slightly weird but
surprisingly uniform. Under the sparse applause, the next item followed… Clayton sat there leisurely,
watching the show.
Everything went according to how Clayton imagined it.
The investor behind Joseph must have wanted him to be popular. Clayton wondered who the person
was. Many of the bigwigs in the business world beside him smiled meaningfully. “That Joseph
Valencia… Oh, which company is he from?”
“Who knows? My daughter seems to like him. I thought that he was a woman at first…” “Hahaha, looks
like this wave of heat is pretty strong. It’s much better than spending money!”
Nicole sat there, quietly looking on coldly.
On the big screen, when the camera swept over to Harvey, he was smiling very decently. There was
forbearance in his modesty and a faint disappointment at the corners of his lips. Harvey just so
happened to be sitting next to the veteran actor who was nominated with him.
The actor seemed to be aware of Harvey’s disappointment and reached out to pat the back of Harvey’s
hand. It seemed like he was consoling Harvey. The ceremony finally ended. Nicole stood up, unable to
stand it anymore.
To the side, an old boss spoke up. “Ms. Stanton, Mr. Sloan, will you attend the reception later?” Nicole
pursed her lips. “No. Everyone, please enjoy yourselves.” Clayton smiled and said, “Farewell…”
