Chapter 234: Spurning Qingqing
“Badges?” Chief detective was taken aback.
Yu Shijin glanced up. Even the sunlight couldn’t melt his chilly aura. His lips were curled up slightly, but there were no traces of a smile. “You thought it was her, but in reality, it’s not.”
Chief detective was puzzled. So was she or was she not?
Yu Shijin didn’t continue.
He just took out his cell phone and put on his earpiece. He played that video again.
That video which turned the entire International Association upside down.
When that red-clad woman raised her hand, he pressed pause. With his deep profound eyes, he stared at that person, as well as that silver streak.
From that angle, it was clearly not a silver needle.
Something was not right.
There was just something not right about the whole thing.
Yu Shijin’s fingers trembled slightly. That silver flash was very familiar. But it should not have come out of her hand.
Everyone knew that the mercenary regiment was very adept at using firearms. No one who valued their life would dare to go against her in that area. Even Apollo acknowledged her prowess.
Few people knew she also had miraculous medical skills.
He knew all this.
Everything matched perfectly, except for this point.
He knew that he had found the correct person.
But this silver flash. This was not something she should have.
So what went wrong? Or perhaps… there were things even he didn’t know.
Yu Shijin’s eyes darkened.
Chief detective glanced at him, wisely deciding not to disturb him.
—
At the Dugu residence, all the great elders were gathered in the hall. Everyone’s face was very grave.
This matter didn’t just concern the Dugu Family. Nearly every family in the International Association had experienced it.
They were all talking about the same thing.
That person on the screen. Was she or was she not…
Unknown Island. Queen of Mercenaries.
“I cannot confirm this matter. I will find the chance to ask the other families.” Dugu Heng rapped on the table and looked up. “For now, I want to talk about another matter. I want to acknowledge my own daughter.”
“Your own daughter?” The Dugu Family elders were stunned. When did the head of the Dugu Family have a daughter? “Your biological daughter?”
On Dugu Heng’s signal, the butler immediately stepped forward and narrated everything about Su Huiqing and Su Ruohua.
The Dugu Family’s second elder gave an indifferent wave of his hand when he heard that the person was from that remote Country Z. “A commoner. If the Dugu Family Head wishes to acknowledge her, so be it. Our Dugu Family is wealthy enough to take care of her.”
“I will acknowledge her whether or not you approve.” Dugu Heng sipped his tea nonchalantly. “But I must tell you this. I want Qingqing to enter the family’s training grounds.”
“What?!” The third elder jumped up in rage. “There are limited spots in the family training grounds, and you want to give one to a commoner?!”
“She is my daughter.” Dugu Heng was very unhappy at the term “commoner” being used to describe his daughter.
His voice had turned cold.
The first elder gestured for the third elder to sit down. He looked at Dugu Heng. “He is not wrong. The family resources are limited. Everyone who goes to the training grounds is the future hope of the family. You also know that the battle for resources will be starting soon. We cannot waste our resources on a commoner at such a crucial moment. If you insist, we will reserve a spot for next year.”
“She’s my daughter. How inferior can she be?” Dugu Heng narrowed his eyes.
He spoke matter-of-factly.
“Master Dugu, you are being overconfident.” The fourth elder smirked. “Isn’t the mother of your child a commoner? Her bloodline is no longer pure. In addition, she has been living outside for 19 years, and already missed the prime period for training. For the Dugu Family, she is not even comparable to our servants. How are you going to convince everyone to allow such a person to participate in the training?”
At this, the Dugu Family butler suddenly recalled something. He remembered seeing Su Huiqing’s lightning-fast movements outside the Dugu Family residence that day. Was this something a commoner could achieve?
“I have never asked for a spot on the training grounds before. It isn’t too unreasonable for me to request for one now, right?” Dugu Heng couldn’t bear hearing others talking badly about Su Huiqing.
He stared at the fourth elder in a domineering manner.
Dugu Heng’s thinking was very simple. He wanted to give those two the best of everything.
The fourth elder’s face went red with anger. He gave a cold laugh. “The namelist for the training grounds has already been decided. Since you insist on having your way, have that ‘naturally-gifted’ daughter of yours compete against someone already on the list. This will appease the public.”
He emphasized heavily on the word “naturally gifted”.
“Don’t push your luck.” Dugu Heng’s face was harsh. “Qingqing has never trained before. Is it fair to make her compete against those who have already trained for over 20 years?”
“You don’t push your luck either!” The fourth elder smacked the table as he stood up. He refused to yield. “Letting a useless piece of trash into the training grounds—unless she had the capability, I will never agree to it!”
The first elder sighed. “Master Dugu, fourth elder is right. If you really wish to take a spot, have her compete. It is only fair.”
“Fair?” Dugu Heng looked at the first elder with a cold laugh. “Letting a person who has never trained before compete—do you really think that’s fair?”
The first elder didn’t speak. It really wasn’t fair but he couldn’t just waste a precious spot on a useless commoner.
After a short while.
Dugu Heng pushed back his chair and stood up. He surveyed the elders. “Fine, she will compete.”
After he left, the fourth elder chuckled. He looked disdainfully at Dugu Heng’s departing profile. “Does he really think a commoner will be able to beat our disciples?”
