The bodyguard searched John but came up with nothing.
Doug was left scowling. ‘Mr. Lynch, it’s in your best interest to give it up.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“You’re a smart man. Give it up before we bring the pain!” Doug threatened.
“I really don’t know what you’re talking about. I just came with Nana.”
Doug was left glowering, though that was when Jean and the rest of the Lynd family returned.
Jean strode right up to John. “Did you find it?”
“No,” the butler replied respectfully.
“Did you hide it?” Jean asked John.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about. Nana said she missed you, so I came with her to see you.”
“Don’t waste my time, Lucas Lynch!”
“I really-’
Pow!
Keith punched John squarely in the face out of the blue.
He was clearly trained, as John’s blood splattered out of his nose-the punch alone could have killed
John right there, and John almost blacked out for an instant.
Nana flinched even as she looked on.
She had certainly seen blood before, but it was not John who was bleeding. Still, she gritted her teeth
and told herself not to back down-he deserved it!
‘Give it up if you want to live!” Keith threatened.
‘I really don’t know-’
“Take him to the basement,” Jean told Doug right then.
’Yes, ma’am.”
As John was violently dragged away, Jean told Keith, “Search every inch of the manor. Find those
papers even if you have to dig six feet under!’
’Yeah,” Keith replied and quickly left with his men.
As Jean started to leave, she paused for a moment beside Nana. ‘I’d better not find out that you were
protecting him!”
Nana pursed her lips but did not dare to say a word.
She always had Jean’s affection since she was smart enough to earn it even as a child.
But despite Jean’s favoritism, she would be punished all the same when the family’s interests were on
the line.
Over at North City, Cordy whispered her into Patrick’s ear, and he exclaimed in surprise, “Would that
really work?”
“We won’t know if we don’t try.’
“But…”
‘ Don’t worry. It’s going to be fine.’
“Are you so sure that it’s Sean? If it’s not him…” Patrick trailed off worriedly. He would rather sit here
and wait than take the risk-someone would come to save them if he and Cordy lost touch with
everyone else for too long anyway.
‘All the more reason we should try to get away if it’s not him,” Cordy said.
’… Okay.”
Patrick was unconditionally tolerant toward Cordy anyway, and they would just die together at worst.
And he would feel no regret if he died by Cordy’s side.
