Chapter 116
“It’s alright, I’ll stay here with you,” John replied, as if it was only natural. “Sleep.”
As Cordy stared at him, he said, “You often came by to visit and take care of me when I was staying in
the hospital before.”
“You were hurt because of me,” Cordy pointed out.
“I always repay a favor a hundredfold. You don’t have to be so formal with me, Ms. Sachs,” John said
with a determined tone.
Cordy pursed her lips–she had this nagging feeling that she would hurt the little child in John if she
turned him down.
As such, she simply turned around, keeping her back to him and closed her eyes to sleep.
And with that, John sat by her hospital bed, staring at her delicately small figure.
She really was small… So, so small.
And yet, she was so tough it hurt.
John’s Adam’s apple bobbed just then.
If he stopped her all those years ago, when she was fleeing without a care….
Would she have been more trusting?
Cordy did not expect that she would really fall asleep.
She came up with a reasonable excuse to make John leave, but did not think that as she closed her
eyes and kept laying there in her bed, she actually fell asleep.
She rarely slept near strangers because she felt too insecure to do it.
She turned slightly and found John also asleep on the couch.
It was a small couch, so it looked like he was mostly cramping his huge frame on it.
She then remembered the time when he was staying at the hospital–their roles from that time were
now reversed.
Getting to her feet, she picked up her blanket and tried to lay it over him as gently as possible.
However, the instant he was close to her, John opened his eyes, leaving her in shock and disbelief.
“Sorry, I… Oh!”
Cordy yelped as suddenly caught her wrist, and firmly pulled.
Her entire body fell into his arms, while she felt like the world spun around her.
Before she could react, John flipped around and pinned her beneath himself.
They hence stared into each other’s eyes in that compromising position.
Then, Cordy watched as John suddenly leaned in and inched closer to her…
Cordy’s heart was racing.
Her instincts were rejecting what was coming, and she shifted her body in refusal.
Even so, she hesitated for a moment when she met his bright gaze.
She bit her lip, watching as John leaned closer…
And closer.
At the very last instant, she suddenly closed her eyes and clenched her knuckles, as if to make her
accept a certain something.
But even as her nerves all over tightened, she suddenly relaxed and opened her eyes.
That was when she found herself staring at his jet–black hair.
He was simply laying on top of her, almost suffocating her.
She wondered then if he never woke up, and everything was just him sleepwalking!
Even as he lay on top of her, his breathing was regular and rhythmic, while she felt his warm breath
escaping his lips beside her right ear.
His lips were moving, but she did not know if he was actually talking because she was deaf in that
ear.
All she knew was that she had trouble breathing from him pressing on her.
After a while… Perhaps after ten or maybe twenty minutes, Cordy thought that she was at her limit and
shoved him. “Wake up.”
Her body stiffened as he moved–she could not tear her eyes away from his gorgeous face even as he
stirred!
As John looked up with sleepy eyes at Cordy, he slowly realized that she was beneath him and his
eyes briefly flashed in surprise.
“What did I do?” he asked.
Good.
At least he was asking what he did, and not what she did, or she would never have been able to
explain herself!
