Chapter 412
Alan demanded, “I’ve had enough of your antics for one night, John! Let go of her
right now!”
“I’ll return once I’ve sent her home!” John shot back.
“You, sending Cordy home? In front of everyone attending the Stuarts’ charity ball?!”
Alan barked. “Do you even
understand that you’re humiliating them?! If Cordy hadn’t been smart enough, you
would’ve already ruined your own reputation! I have never been this disappointed in
you!”
“For once,” John replied bluntly.
Alan was left bristling by John’s reply right then, and his face suddenly flushed, as if
he could not breathe just then.
“Please calm down, sir,” Lawrence said, immediately noticing Alan’s condition after
serving Alan for years. “The doctors already mentioned that you shouldn’t get agitated
because of your high blood pressure. You’ve already had a stroke before, and the
consequences would be devastating if it recurs…”
John calmed down slightly as well when he saw Alan’s condition.
However, he was not letting go of Cordy either.
Seeing that grandfather and grandson were still very much on edge, Lawrence quickly
tried to reason with John. “Sir, you know Master Levine’s health has always been
poor.
Please don’t aggravate him any further, or else…”
Even so, John was not playing along at all, and he simply told Alan, “I’ll be right back.”
“John!” Alan bellowed in rage. “Do you really want to see me die in front of you that
badly?! Just like how you had to watch your own most beloved parents die all those
years ago?!”
Alan flushed even harder after all that yelling, and he appeared to be in such bad
shape he could black out the next instant.
“Master John…” Lawrence was staring at John nervously at the same time.
John’s fingers twitched in turn.
No matter how determined he was, he could not leave without a care.
That was when Cordy shook his hand off-successfully this time.
Naturally, she had no complaints since families came first.
If her mother were still alive or if her father was devoted to her, she would do anything
for them in turn.
As such, she told John coolly, “Don’t make me bear the weight of a man’s death. It’d
crush me.”
In other words, it would overwhelm her if Alan died because of her.
John’s fingers clenched, his knuckles cracking even as he restrained himself.
“Patrick,” Cordy said, turning toward Patrick without sparing John another glance. “Do
you mind giving me a ride home?”
Patrick blinked, just as John looked up at Cordy.
There was no question about it-she was giving in.
She had no idea why he wanted her gone, though it was likely he did not want her to
see him announce his wedding date with Jessica later.
Whatever it was, she decided that she could not be that unreasonable.
John was almost crazy about chasing her away, and he must have his reason-there
was no reason for her to get emotional about it either.
She had certainly shown William enough respect by being here and made a donation
like she should-it was pointless if she had to stay any longer.
“Okay.” Patrick agreed. He walked over to take her hand and left together with her.
Once they were out of sight, Alan barked at John, “Why are you just standing there?!
Go in with Jessica! The whole ballroom is waiting for you!”
John strode past him coolly, completely ignoring Jessica.
Still, she simply jogged up to her and wrapped her hands around his arm.
Behind them, Lawrence slowly wheeled Alan back into the
ballroom but suddenly exclaimed, “To be honest, Ms. Sachs is a really great person.”
Alan sighed in turn, sounding at once feeble and remorseful.
