Chapter 966: Destruction (Part 2)

On the next day after a night of silence, Lex began to organize the entire fleet and pass down the assignments of those involved in the battle. Other than the banner vessel, ancient combat vessel, and 12 skeletal warships, the rest of the fleet was made up of newly-built combat vessels that were running on magic furnaces.
In the fleet, the Ancient consisted of five battalions of main armies. There was a total of 100,000 soldiers in these five battalions and half of them were auxiliary soldiers. Saleen was not in a good mood. He did not bother with the organizing of the fleets and returned to the elemental magic tower. Once there, he summoned the sorcerers that Lex had given to him.
Originally, there were plenty of mages in Metatrin Kingdom and most of them were low-level mages. But ever since the increase in the collective power of the entire Mainland, most of the mages have advanced to grade seven sorcerers, regardless whether they were from Sregl Island, Bitter Water Prefecture, or those that Saleen had recruited personally.
There were 36 sorcerers in Saleen’s elemental magic tower. Each level was occupied by six sorcerers and a total of six levels had been set aside as areas for sorcerers to fight. The lowest level had been arranged for the noble families of Ceylon City that lived nearby.
The difference between elemental magic towers and ordinary magic towers was quite significant. Firstly, as the magic furnace would only be able to magnify the powers of the spells when the magic tower was on the ground, the power of all spells would not be magnified while in flight. Mages needed to get used to the fact that the power of the spells they cast while flying would be the same as them casting those spells outside of the magic tower. The attacking range would also remain unchanged.
Saleen gave his orders to all the sorcerers as the elemental magic tower began to take flight. After a few hours of training over the sea, they finally headed to Ironwall City, just as the sky was getting dark. Saleen was flying very quickly as the fleet at the back was already attacking the port. Very soon, the metal flying machines on the ancient combat vessel would take off. If he reached earlier, he would give the Ironwall City people something to think about. They would consider whether they should retreat.
Saleen was aware of how absurd his thinking was. The leader of Ironwall City would never allow the city to fall without a fight. With that, Saleen increased his speed.
When they were 15 miles away from Ironwall City, Saleen let Nailisi go ahead. She needed to unleash her demon army from the Twelve Notes of Purgatory. The demons in the Purgatory of Devils were able to appear hundreds of times faster than before. The piece of equipment was already displaying the traits of a Godly Item.
Saleen’s elemental magic tower approached Ironwall City at a height of a thousand yards. The people of Ironwall City quickly noticed the elemental magic tower. It was so gigantic that any ordinary person would be able to see it with their naked eyes.
Saleen was quite lucky. Over at the royal harbor, the magic array was destroyed by the ancient combat vessel. The battle had already gone on for so long, yet Ironwall City still remained unaware. That would not have been possible in Qin.
The elemental magic tower first stopped above the northern city wall. All six sorcerers on the second level joined forces and cast the Meteorite spell.
The Meteorite spell was a progressive spell. Under the effect of the magic tower, a hundred yard wide meteorite that was blazing with flames came crashing down. The attack came so swiftly that there was no way the defense on top of the city wall would be able to react in time.
The power of the elemental magic tower was on full display. The Meteorite spell cast by grade-7 sorcerers should only be about 10 yards in circumference, and the speed at which it was cast would be very slow. In this case. That meteorite was cast by six grade-7 sorcerers and it was close a hundred yards in circumference. Aside from that, it was completed almost instantly as it came crashing down from a thousand yards with dead accuracy.
The meteorite was unstoppable. With a loud crash, the central city tower was smashed into pieces. The ground shook, and debris went everywhere. Before the radiation of the spell had dissipated, the physical impact of the meteorite had already collapsed the surrounding hundreds of yards of city walls. By the time the fire started burning, there was barely anyone alive in that area.
From the magic tower, it looked as if a beautiful flame had been unleashed outside of the city gate.
Saleen’s sudden attack managed to destroy hundreds of yards of city wall. He decided to elevate the magic tower and fly above the middle of the city.
There were nine magic towers in Ironwall City and six of them suddenly activated anti-flying zones at the same time. Saleen’s elemental magic tower was too high, as high as 3,000 yards, and was unaffected by the anti-flying zones. Saleen knew that ordinary anti-flying zones could reach as high as 2,000 yards. A height of 3,000 yards would have be too dangerous for mages to fly.
At that point in time, the elemental magic tower hid itself amongst the clouds as it looked down at Ironwall City.
Saleen would never have dared to fly at that height on his own. Even with the elemental magic tower, Saleen still felt uneasy. He had used his Eye of Lightning as a test before and realized that the elemental magic tower showed no signs of defense. It merely absorbed the lightning and digested it.
This elemental magic tower was put together using dimension stones. It was said that dimension stones were made by the most powerful ancient people and they could absorb any type of power. Saleen possessed dimension stones of his own and they were of decent quality. He knew that if he was to attack the stone with his clan badge, the former would not be able to handle it.
“Who is destroying my city?!” From a nine-story magic tower in Ironwall City, a voice boomed into the clouds. Saleen could see the magic tower in the middle of the city, but the sorcerers in the city could only vaguely make out the outline of Saleen’s elemental magic tower.
At that point in time, Saleen stood up and walked to the middle of a magic array. He remained standing there while Truman mounted six high-level magic nuclei on his magic array.
A thousand yard image appeared amongst the clouds. It was an image of Saleen himself. Clad in a devil suit, Saleen did not look like a mage.
“People of Ironwall City, listen up. Your Emperor tried to attack my city and kill my wife. I am here for revenge. I, Saleen Metatrin, will destroy Ironwall City. I will give you time to flee or you will die.” With that, Saleen unleashed 36 Vermillion Knights that pounced at the exterior of Ironwall City.
Behind the Vermillion Knights were the elemental stone statue soldiers. The elemental magic tower descended by a thousand yards and came down to a height of 2,000 yards. The elemental stone statue soldiers had ground element all over their body and they crashed towards the ground.
36 Tempest Dragon-mights also flew out of the magic tower and blew apart the clouds around the magic tower. Saleen’s image could be seen very clearly by all the people of Ironwall City. He had no qualms using up grade-9 magic nuclei in order to shock them. Hundreds of yards of city wall had already been destroyed. It would be easy for them to flee the city through the gap.
In the middle of the city, a gigantic tower that was hundreds of yards tall opened up its roof and 12 crossbows launched arrows into the sky. The arrows began to descend after reaching a height of a thousand yards. Saleen laughed gleefully and did not retaliate. 36 elemental stone statue soldiers crashed onto the ground like magic stone shells. If not for the fact that they were elemental creatures, they would have been smashed into pieces.
The elemental stone statue soldiers were descending all the way. They relied on their ground-element exteriors for protection as they passed through the anti-flying zones and landed within Ironwall City. After they had landed, they returned to their original height of a hundred yards and began to wreak havoc with their magic war hammers.
The buildings in Ironwall City were all ancient. Most of the towering buildings had magic arrays. The Sikeqinyans might lack mages, but that piece of land was once occupied by powerful people too. All four dynasties had built cities there before. In other words, Ironwall City had a history of more than 10,000 years.
These buildings had been worn down by the weather, but they had also been repaired repeatedly over the years. When the elemental stone statue soldiers smashed at the buildings with their magic war hammers, they all collapsed one by one. Without anyone taking control of the magic arrays, they became merely decoration. Saleen knew that if Ironwall City had been prepared for war, the magic arrays would have been a nightmare for the army that was trying to take down the city. The reason he used the elemental stone statue soldiers to attack from the sky was so that they would destroy those buildings first.
The metal flying machines would be there in another three hours. It would be tough to rely on a single elemental magic tower to keep the nine magic towers in Ironwall City down. That was why Saleen had to destroy those dangerous buildings first, so that the metal flying machines would not suffer too many losses.
Once the battle began, Saleen had no time to care about the people in the city. He could only focus on his own men. Each metal flying machine would carry at least three soldiers. The soldiers had no means of flying, so once these flying machines had been hit, the former would fall to their deaths.
The sorcerers in the city were furious. The elemental creatures that had descended from the sky were all grade-9. Their magic towers might be powerful, but the elemental creatures were too far away for them to cast any powerful spells to destroy them. If only the elemental creatures were foolish enough to approach the magic towers. Unfortunately, Saleen had ordered the elemental stone statue soldiers to avoid the attack range of the nine magic towers.
At last, a sorcerer in one of the magic towers grew impatient and cast a powerful spell from the tower. A gigantic fire-element creature appeared out of thin air and charged towards the elemental stone statue soldiers. The fire-element creature was a giant flaming dragon and was even larger than the elemental stone statue soldiers.
The giant flaming dragon was charging around recklessly. When it reached the elemental stone statue soldiers, it opened its mouth and bit down on one of them without any hesitation. The elemental stone statue soldier used its magic war hammer to smash at the giant flaming dragon’s wings, only to see it melting into a pool of fluid. On the other hand, the giant flaming dragon managed to bite off the head of the elemental stone statue soldier.
The giant flaming dragon slammed down its claws and the fallen elemental stone statue soldier immediately exploded. Even its elemental core exploded into pieces. Saleen would need at least a month’s time for that elemental stone statue soldier to recover.
Even though the giant flaming dragon had managed to kill an elemental stone statue soldier rather easily, all the buildings around the mages in the magic tower had already been destroyed. They were devastated.
That was the effect that Saleen wanted to achieve. He was closely monitoring the movements of the giant flaming dragon and he had long been prepared to lose one elemental stone statue soldier. If the sorcerers in the magic towers planned to attack with powerful magic, then their city would be turned into a pile of debris.
“Do it!” Saleen gave the order. Aside from the sorcerers on the second level that were already completely spent and were in the midst of meditation, the remaining 30 sorcerers began to cast spells in the direction of the nine magic towers in the city.
Fire Meteor, Meteorite spell, and huge Ice Bomb spells…
All nine magic towers entered their defense modes at the same time. Each tower managed to protect an area of a few hundred yards around them. There were close to three million people and army of more than 200,000 in Ironwall City. There was no way the magic towers could protect the entire city.
In the past, it was not possible for sorcerers to form alliances to destroy cities. The way battles were being fought had changed and Ironwall City was merely the first sacrifice.
