Chapter 783: Only Bandits would be Happy (Part 2)

The expression on the elderly holy priest’s face was awful. The three divine crystals that surrounded him were absorbing energy frantically. The book in his hands was torn into shreds by the power of the three divine crystals. The power of worship that he had accumulated for more than two hundred years was taken away by the divine crystals just like that. Nailisi’s fourth hand released the shield and took out a broken bust. This bust was one of the remains of the Goddess of Myers’ statue.
The core pages of the thick book that the elderly holy priest had been relying on flew out of his hands as well as they were absorbed by the bust.
If they were on the Myers Mainland instead of this place, the Goddess’ bust would not have possessed such great power. The reason was that in there, the holy priest was unable to receive help from the Gods, nor the support from other disciples. As a result, the total amount of power he had was less than even a sorcerer.
This was the weakness of holy priests; their powers did not come from themselves entirely.
“No!” The holy priest howled in fury. He had lost all control by then.
“I really like to see you struggling. You are much weaker than Nicholas. At the very least, he has his own powers while you are just a small little bug.” Nailisi looked at the wrinkled skin of the holy priest and spoke in a disgusted tone.
The torn pages of the holy priest’s book flew into the darkness and were absorbed into the Twelve Notes of Purgatory. All of a sudden, the Goddess’ bust broke into pieces and flew into the darkness as well.
An astounding change was taking place in the Twelve Notes of Purgatory. The dimension of darkness continued to expand until even the very last cracks were completely repaired. It was as if a shapeless door had opened and a small portion of the Purgatory of Ice, which was just beside the Purgatory of Darkness, was repaired. More than two hundred years of power of worship that the elderly holy priest had accumulated was all absorbed by the Twelve Notes of Purgatory.
The divine protection on the surface of his body dimmed instantly. The three divine crystals on Nailisi’s gigantic hands also broke into pieces as they were destroyed and absorbed by the Twelve Notes of Purgatory, along with the three palms of her devil-form.
Nailisi was laughing uproariously. The pain of losing her palms was nothing. Right now, the old fellow was like a tortoise without its shell and no longer had the ability to resist her.
“Spare me…”
Puff!
Nailisi used her remaining hand to poke at the elderly holy priest. There was no way she would spare him. The way he had looked at her in the beginning was so creepy that Nailisi felt disgusted. Other than Master, no one else must see her body. Although demons normally did not care about that, Nailisi already felt like half a human.
The finger of the devil-form was more than a yard long and was more than two yards long if the nails were included. This finger passed through the hole in the shield and was ground a few times, causing flesh and blood to spill out from the hole. Nailisi bent down and sucked. A transparent soul that could be seen even by the naked eye flew into her mouth.
Other demons might not be able to do that, but a Luoluokaluo was able to absorb souls.
Nailisi was not able to process the holy priest’s soul immediately after absorbing it, so she could only make use of a portion of the soul strength to heal the injury on her hands. Black blood was gushing at the places where her three palms had vanished. The elderly holy priest’s soul would be used to heal these injuries.
Nailisi would not be able to use her devil-form for the time being, so she had no choice but to turn into a spirit. She looked like a zombie on the surface, and her entire body had shrunk to become two yards tall.
As her human form was too weak and small, so Nailisi was only left with her spirit-form, which currently possessed the most fighting abilities.
All that was worth it. The elderly holy priest was of the same grade as Nicholas, but their fighting abilities were worlds apart. Nailisi had no confidence in finishing off Nicholas because even though he had lost the blessing of God and had fallen, he was still a very powerful grade-9 Professional. As for this holy priest, the moment he was pulled into the Twelve Notes of Purgatory, his fighting abilities had dropped drastically, and his experience in combat was pathetic as he has found himself falling for the same traps consecutively.
Nailisi never knew that holy priests’ weaknesses were so obvious. She did not leave the Purgatory of Darkness immediately. Instead, she was sensing the entire process of the holy priest’s energy being absorbed.
The elderly holy priest’s main equipment was that thick book of his. The enormous amount of power of worship was being unleashed through the divine crystals to repair the Twelve Notes of Purgatory. If the elderly holy priest could make full use of this energy, he could have defeated Nailisi, even in her devil-form.
What a pathetic fellow! Nailisi walked to him and picked up the ring that he left behind. This ring was spatial equipment. Nailisi destroyed the spiritual imprint that the holy priest had left behind before retrieving all his items and throwing them onto the ground.
What a poor fellow! Nailisi was disappointed when she saw the items on the ground, but it was also understandable. The elderly holy priest’s book stored so much power of worship, but the book itself was extremely fragile. It was only equivalent to high-grade equipment and was two levels away from being considered holy equipment.
There were poor ones even amongst mages, so it was expected that there would be more of such people in the Holy See, where there were so many internal conflicts and struggles. Nailisi did not bother looking at the low-level equipment on the ground. She put the dimensional ring on her finger before turning around to walk into the Purgatory of Ice.
How cold! Nailisi shivered. She could barely handle the temperature of the Purgatory of Ice even when she was in spirit-form.
The ground was transparent, and its surface was filled with beautiful patterns of snowflakes and hexagons like a sea of flowers blooming. The Purgatory of Ice, which was still in the early stages of being repaired, was not big and was only about ten miles in area. The temperature was around eighty below freezing, and Nailisi felt like there were small pieces of ice in her bones.
Nailisi curled up, but was pleased. Only monsters would be happy after killing the holy priest and using his power of worship to expand the dimension of the Twelve Notes of Purgatory. The holy priest did not possess any other forms of wealth, but this was sufficient already. The water elements in the Purgatory of Ice were extremely thick, if a Master was to battle there, his fighting abilities would increase by multiple times.
It was too difficult to kill grade-9 holy priests. Her devil form was already equivalent to a grade-9 supreme demon, but she still needed to enter the Purgatory of Darkness in order to kill this old fellow. She even lost all the fighting abilities of her devil form at the same time.
She would have to be more careful in the future. She had to make sure that she struck only when the enemy was alone. If the elderly holy priest had a few grade-8 holy priests or even grade-7 ones around him, she would not have gotten her way so easily.
Nailisi silently cautioned herself to walk slowly in the Purgatory of Ice. She came to the center of the Purgatory and looked up. There was white fog in the sky and within the fog were ice crystals hanging down, as if they were ready to rain down anytime.
The feet of Nailisi’s spirit form were wrinkled and dry. Every step she took left a footprint on the cold, hard ground. It felt like the bottom of her feet would be frozen to the ground, and much effort was required to pull them off.
She laughed coldly to herself before flying into the sky and amidst the fog and ice crystals. A creature in gaseous form was observing Nailisi until she suddenly flew up, leaving the creature to flee in horror. Nailisi stretched out her hand into the fog and grabbed hold of a weapon spirit that was the size of a cherry.
This weapon spirit was borne from the Purgatory of Ice. It had just developed a little intelligence, and its fighting abilities were basic. It was only able to use the permanent abilities of the Purgatory of Ice to attack enemies. It was extremely weak and fragile.
Nailisi grabbed hold of the transparent weapon spirit and thought to herself, “Amongst the Twelve Notes of Purgatory, the Purgatory of Darkness no longer has any weapon spirits, so the Purgatory of Ice should not have one either. After I advance to grade-10 in the future, I will be able to control all the dimensions gradually. I will still be able to make use of the incredible powers of the Purgatories even without weapon spirits.”
She would have to subdue the weapon spirits one by one. Although they might provide great help during battles, they could also be snatched away by the enemies easily, which would give the enemies control over the Twelve Notes of Purgatory.
At that thought, Nailisi opened her mouth and swallowed the weapon spirit.
Without the weapon spirit, the rate of repair of the Twelve Notes of Purgatory became slower, but it was better than the possibility of losing control of the Purgatories at any time. Demons would never trust weapon spirits and would never bet their future on them. By the time the weapon spirits were fully grown, they would definitely feel unhappy to controlled.
At most, these objects would never become Godly items, which was nothing compared to the loss of the Twelve Notes of Purgatory.
Nailisi pondered for a moment before killing the weapon spirit and absorbing it. In the Purgatory of Ice, the ice crystals within the fog suddenly dimmed. Nailisi had no wish to stay longer, so she went back to the Purgatory of Darkness.
Over there, all the equipment of the elderly holy priest had been disintegrated and absorbed into the Twelve Notes of Purgatory to continue to replenish the parts of the dimension that had been damaged. This process of repair would take a long time as only one out of Twelve dimensions had been completely repaired. Even the Purgatory of Ice was only ten percent repaired.
When Nailisi made sure that nothing was amiss, she changed into spirit armor and left the Purgatory of Darkness to return to the battlefield.
On the battlefield, there was holy light everywhere as the holy priests were boosting their armies with divine spells to continue fighting against the demons. The vengeful souls created by the death mages had been scattered in batches, so they could only retreat. It was as good as courting death for grade-4 death mages when they were matched up against grade-8 holy priests. In such situations where their differences were so huge, how one attribute was more effective against another became obvious.
Nailisi summoned more than one-hundred death knights to protect herself. Then, she observed the battle and discovered that more than one-thousand demons had died and the Bitter Water Prefecture heavy-armored knights had also had many casualties as about one-third of them were hurt or dead. Those that were injured were dragged back to the position of the foot soldiers while the enemy was still in huge numbers.
Nailisi would not have the upper hand against grade-8 holy priests in her spirit form. After observing the battle for a while, she gave the order to retreat. When the demon battalion commander heard Nailisi’s summoning, it led the demons into a slow retreat while the heavy-armored knights took their place. As for Nailisi, she gathered with the death mages.
The two death mages were taken aback when they saw Nailisi. They had thought that a fierce battle like this one had produced a powerful spirit of the dead.
“Let’s go back to the main city!” Nailisi spoke in her original voice. That was when the two death mages realized who the spirit really was. Nailisi did not care about the heavy-armored knights and headed back towards the position of the foot soldiers. Without hesitation, she led the demons to attack the Tanggulasi soldiers at the rear.
It was meaningless to try and destroy the enemy and save south city. She had brought too few demons, even looting resources was proving to be difficult.
Retreat! Retreat!
The leader of the heavy-armored knights also gave the order to retreat. They would not be able to defeat the enemy ahead of them without help. They could only follow the demons back.
