Mu Mingtang was extremely restless when she fell asleep. She passed out completely in the later stages before vaguely noticing that someone was holding her up, splashing water onto her body and putting new clothes on her. Mu Mingtang was instinctively alert, but her limbs were limp and she couldn’t seem to exert any strength. Maybe it was the scent of her surroundings that seemed familiar and made her think that there was no reason to be alarmed, so she just let it be and sank back into her deep sleep.
She distinctly remembered that she had woken up in the middle of the night to find Xie Xuanchen, but who would have thought that the skies were still dark upon waking up again.
Mu Mingtang opened her eyes, looked at the familiar red curtain that hung above her head in a daze for quite some time before remembering that this was the Yulin Palace. Mu Mingtang exerted some strength to get up— whenever she moved even in the slightest, she felt sore all over, as if every bone of hers had been crushed.
Mu Mingtang struggled to just sit up. She was making a lot of movements, and just as she fidgeted around, the sound of footsteps echoed from outside. Then, the bed curtain was lifted and the entering person was changed into dark blue clothes. He sat down on the side of the bed in good spirits, “Are you awake?”
Mu Mingtang got angry as soon as she saw him. Xie Xuanchen knew he was wrong, so he just let Mu Mingtang glare at him without making any excuses. But Xie Xuanchen was shameless in nature and he didn’t show the slightest bit of embarrassment at the moment. He even fed Mu Mingtang some water in the familiar way she tried to do last night.
Although Mu Mingtang was angry, her throat had long been parched,which was the sole reason she didn’t refuse the warm water that was lightly poured into her mouth. Only when the whole glass of clear water bottomed out did she feel that she was once alive once again. She asked, “What time is it now?”
As soon as the words came out, Mu Mingtang realised that her voice was very hoarse. It was obviously a very normal sentence, but when she said it, it sounded weak and tender, as if she was being bullied.
Xie Xuanchen casually placed the teacup on the table and naturally helped Mu Mingtang to a half-sitting position. Mu Mingtang was only wearing her long sleeved innerwear at the moment. Her outer clothes were removed and her collar in particular was naturally draped against the bedpost. Xie Xuanchen only needed to glance down and he could see the faint outlines of her collarbones. Those curves tempted him further and before he knew it, he found his gaze lingering on the hidden ravine of her frame.
At first, Xie Xuanchen merely saw it by accident, but then he started to steal a few more looks, completely unable to control his eyes. Mu Mingtang didn’t hear him answering her question, so she looked up strangely and found that Xie Xuanchen was holding her arm. However, she also noted that his gaze was rather focused on something that she had no clue about.
Even so, Mu Mingtang came to her senses soon enough. She abruptly covered her upper chest, gritted her teeth and said angrily, “You!”
Xie Xuanchen retracted his gaze restrainedly. Only then did he remember Mu Mingtang’s previously asked question, “It’s almost 7p.m. You haven’t had anything to eat for the entire day, so you should get up and eat something.”
