Mu Mingtang looked at him with a smile. Go on, continue to craft your story. How could there be so many coincidences that coincidentally occurred at that particular time? Encountering the women in the gazebo, tuning in on their conversation— how come all these situations were met with such great timing?
Mu Mingtang didn’t let him know if she believed his words or not as she said, “Then today at the dinner party, when I mentioned the matter of the afternoon, why didn’t you admit it there and then?”
Xie Xuanchen was truly troubled, “I wanted to tell you about it too, but you got angry before I could. I was afraid that you would get even angrier, so I thought that I would break it to you slowly after we got home.”
“Really?”
“Really.”
Mu Mingtang looked at him quietly while Xie Xuanchen let her do so innocently. In fact, he was not lying about this since he would not lie to Mu Mingtang. All along, he truly planned to find an opportunity to confess the truth to her once they got home.
Who would have thought that Xie Xuanji and Jiang Mingwei stabbed him with the truth before he could say anything. Because it was revealed this way, it made things seem like Xie Xuanchen meant to hide the truth from Mu Mingtang the entire time.

It probably wasn’t deliberate of him to end up where she was and listen in on the conversation, but Xie Xuanchen not making a sound back then was also most likely due to the fact that he wanted to hear her thoughts.
Mu Mingtang couldn’t tell whether she was embarrassed or annoyed, but at any rate, she was angry. Whenever she gets angry, she would seek out Xie Xuanchen to vent her anger.
Xie Xuanchen looked at her expression and saw that Mu Mingtang was still rather puzzled, so he immediately tilted his head and leaned weakly on her, “I don’t know why but I suddenly have a headache…”
Mu Mingtang gritted her teeth and pushed him away from her, “Take some medicine if you have a headache; I’ll call the imperial physician for you right now.”
“No, no, it’s already so late, there’s no need to mobilise anyone,” The more Xie Xuanchen said, the more sick he appeared to be. He hugged Mu Mingtang’s shoulders, unable to sit still from his apparent sudden loss of strength, “I’m dizzy and nauseous, so I don’t have much strength yet.”
Mu Mingtang looked at him indifferently. If he thought that using the same trick on her over and over again was going to work, then he was probably looking down on her too much. Mu Mingtang was indifferent as she still said coldly, “Since you are not feeling well, go to rest quickly. I won’t disturb you, so I will sleep somewhere else today.”
“No!” After Xie Xuanchen shouted, he added a weak cough and said, “If you are not here and I’m alone at night, what should I do if something happens?”
“Will something happen to you?”
“Yes,” Xie Xuanchen nodded, “If I don’t see you, I can’t sleep; and when I can’t sleep, there’s no saying what I might do.”
His words were so straightforward that she was reminded of the fact that he had heard her entire confession this afternoon. Mu Mingtang’s facial expressions morphed into something incomprehensive, so Xie Xuanchen couldn’t tell what she was thinking. After hearing what she had said in the afternoon, he felt like he had an edge to pleading his case, so he grumbled and tugged onto her outfit, “I don’t care, it’s not like you can leave me anyways. Even if you don’t sleep here tonight, I’m going to carry you over after you fall asleep. There’s no way you can remain awake for an entire night, can you?”
