Xie Xuanchen nodded weakly, gave her a random book title and added, “Thank you.”
Mu Mingtang fetched the book and sat by the bed. She then asked him which passage he wanted to hear before reading it to him word for word. Xie Xuanchen couldn’t sit upright halfway through due to his frailness, so he simply put his pillow on Mu Mingtang’s lap.
Xiang Nanchun stood outside the door and upon accidentally raising her head, she saw a young woman sitting sideways on the bed despite being hidden behind a thin layer of incense smoke. Her long ginger skirt draped from the footrest to the ground, as if it was a flower in full bloom. She was holding a book in her hand and she read the words slowly in a soft voice.
On her lap leaned a very young man. The man’s side face was so beautiful that if looks could kill, everyone would be dead by now. Although his eyes were closed, it was not difficult for people to guess how magnificent it would appear when those eyes were opened.
Xiang Nanchun withdrew her gaze, still staring at the ground in a calm manner.
As the winds pass and the clouds move, the long years would count down as well.
