Chapter 1089: Shocking Discovery
“Awakener MTs are all really strong, as expected,” thought Sheyan as he witnessed Hedi Curry’s performance. He also saw that Vassily, who had been switched out from the frontline, was glowing. It appeared that not only was his HP being continually restored, his movement speed had also improved.
Because all the contestants were considered to be allies at this time, and Sheyan completely crushed Curry in terms of Perceptive Sense, Sheyan was able to acquire the specific details of Curry’s ability:
[ Awakener Skill: Nether Swap ]
[ Effect: The caster and the target will switch places instantly. During the switch (0.5 seconds duration), the two sides will exist in another plane. Attacks in the current plane cannot harm either of them. ]
[ After use: The target (allies only) will recover 15% of their HP in 10 seconds. Their movement speed will also increase by 50%, but after 10 seconds, the target’s additional movement speed will disappear and their movement speed will become 50% of the original for 20 seconds. ]
[ If this ability is used on an enemy, the movement speed of both the target and the caster will be reduced by 50% for 5 seconds. ]
[ After use: The caster’s movement speed will be reduced by 33% for 10 seconds. ]
[ The first use of this ability will incur no cost, but there will be a 120-second cooldown. If the caster wishes to use this ability again during the cooldown period, it will cost 10,000 utility points, 10 potential points and 1 achievement point. The cooldown time will also be reset and extended to 240 seconds. ]
[ Description: Only contestants who have grasped an Awakener Skill have the qualification to step into the next tier. ]
After teleporting to the front of the Slaad, Curry simply raised his shield to protect himself. When the Slaad’s claws swung down, they scraped hard against the shield, producing a large amount of sparks and an intense metallic grating sound.
Sheyan noticed that during the strike, the sucker-like things on the inside of the Slaad’s claws had spun at a high speed and had secreted some disgusting pale-blue liquid. The liquid splashed when the claws collided with the shield.
Normally, a shield was only considered a heavy shield if it had a diameter of more than seventy centimeters. It would only be categorised as a greatshield, which needed to be held with both hands, if it was as tall as a human. The shield Curry used was rather small, about the diameter of a basin. It was a typical light shield.
But he seemed to have some sort of ability to strengthen a shield. At the moment, the surface of the shield that was being attacked by the enemy had a cross formed from light on it. It exuded a faint holy feeling.
But because the coverage of the shield was not large enough, Curry was still hurt by the aftershock of the monster’s strike. A trail of blood streaked down his muscular arm, and he staggered back a few steps. Of course, the Slaad’s giant body also turned still for a moment from the impact of the reaction force.
Seizing this opportunity, Ronnie approached stealthily. His forward-leaning body became blurry when he got close to the Slaad, before he eventually vanished completely from sight. By the time he reappeared, he was already 10 meters away, and had penetrated from the left side of the Slaad to its right.
When Ronnie reappeared, a series of painful groans erupted from the Slaad. A deep wound had been cut into its thigh, and bright red blood gushed out.
In that instant, the ‘Mark of Death’ on top of the Slaad’s head suddenly grinned. The skull-shaped mark bit down on the Slaad’s muscular right leg and started chewing as if the mark were a solid entity. The sound of muscle fibers in the thigh being bitten off could be clearly heard….
But that was just the beginning. Ronnie’s attack only served to show the specific part that the other members should focus their attacks on. Before the monster could make an effective response, the sound of William’s sniper rifle going off echoed once again in the canyon. Dardanian also shot an invasive plant seed into the bloody wound. Paul created a metal javelin and sent it flying towards the Slaad. Vassily’s Vulcan once again sent a hail of bullets over….
All these horrible attacks focused on the right leg of the Slaad. They immediately stripped the leg of all its impressive muscles. The thrilling spectacle of flesh and blood splashing did not even appear because the destructive firepower was too strong. Only the Slaad’s tough bones survived, but they were already full of scars and wounds. The Slaad was probably built for jumping, so its leg bones were particularly thick. That was the only reason why the bones did not break.
As a creature with high intelligence, the Slaad instantly understood after the storm of attacks that it was in a great crisis! It did not even bother to check its injuries before it tried to jump back in the river’s direction.
Although one of its legs was crippled, it still managed to leaped about five or six meters away thanks to its size. As soon as it landed, it would only be ten odd meters away from the turbulent river, and this part of the river was already away of the section that was encircled by Pokan’s stone wall. The ten odd meters were all that separated the Slaad from freedom.
But at that moment, Pokan gave his magic wand a flick. Amidst a scattering of dust and pebbles, three stalagmites shot out from the part of the riverbank that the Slaad was about to land on. The unbelievably sharp stalagmites were each at least a meter wide and three meters long! If the Slaad fell on them, it would be skewered like grilled meat!
It struggled with all its might and managed to break two of the stalagmites with its muscular forelimbs. However, the third stalagmite stood strong and ruthlessly cut open a huge wound on its flabby stomach, from which a portion of its innards fell out.
The interception gave Ronnie the time to silently approach the monster. Although Ronnie had a really annoying mouth and an arrogant attitude, Sheyan had to admit that his offensive power was truly strong when he had someone tanking in front of him.
Ronnie’s dagger ruthlessly slashed at the Slaad’s bone. The dagger was actually vibrating violently. When it came into contact with the bone, it cut into the bone like a chainsaw, spraying greyish-white bone powder and bright-red bone marrow juice!
The Slaad roared in agony and clawed at Ronnie. Ronnie did not look like he could avoid the strike. However, Azsa did not stand idly by. With a sharp look in her eyes, she rammed her lozenge-shaped light shield into the space ahead.
A strange, dark hole that looked like a miniature version of a black hole suddenly appeared in front of Azsa. It proceeded to completely swallow her right hand.
Next, a strange black hole similarly appeared over Ronnie’s right shoulder, which was about to be attacked. Azsa’s right hand, holding the lozenge-shaped light shield, extended out from the black hole to block the Slaad’s attack.
Sheyan saw to his surprise that when Azsa’s lozenge shield was hit, it flashed with a dark blue light, but the light sparkled with stars, indicating that it was a dark blue shield that had been strengthened to at least +7. It probably had some crazy strong properties like ‘+7 West’, and after undergoing strengthening, it should already be no weaker than a silver storyline shield.
At last, the right leg of the Slaad was completely cut off. It instantly lost its mobility. However, to crawl more than ten meters to the river with its two forelimbs and a good left leg was certainly not impossible, so it continued to crawl tenaciously while enduring the extreme pain. It had no intention of fighting back for the last time like a trapped beast at all.
The group of contestants went into fire-at-will mode. Most of their attacks were concentrated on the head of the monster because attacking the head should increase the chance of landing a fatal strike. When the Slaad had forcefully crawled for about three meters in the midst of the heavy bombing, a stone wall that was approximately 5 meters tall and 10 meters wide was suddenly raised in front of it, blocking its way. That was naturally Pokan’s work!
It was now placed in a desperate situation with only two choices: to bypass the stone wall or to destroy it. But no matter which choice it made, it would inevitably expose itself to the fierce attack of the enemies. Sheyan decided to kick the Slaad while it was down; he threw out a bottle of curse-mix, which first stunned the monster for three seconds before enshrouding it in a cloud of debuffing smoke….
Under the ruthless obstructions, it took the Slaad nearly 20 seconds to reach the edge of the river, but right as it was brimming with hope and was about to leap into the river, Curry once again performed his ‘Nether Swap’ ability to drag the Slaad fifty meters back from the river….
They eventually killed the monster without any accident.
The loots were distributed according to normal convention. The valuable parts and organs of the Slaad were listed out and auctioned off within the team at a low price.
The final auction proceeds were divided equally into thirteen portions. Each of the two MTs would take two portions, and the one voted as the MVP of the battle would also take two portions. The others would take a portion each. This was a rather fair distribution method.
None of them had any objection. The MVP of this battle was awarded to Pokan. Without the repeated use of his topographic modelling ability to trap the Slaad, they would have had a really hard time trying to kill the monster!
But when the cyborgs were busy dissecting the dead Slaad, Cyborg No. 1 suddenly stood up and raised something bloody in his hand while exclaiming in surprise, “My lords and ladies, I think you’d better take a look at this!”
All their gazes immediately shifted to the object in the cyborg’s hand. When they saw what it was, every one of them displayed a look of shock!
