Chapter 1213: The Miserable State of the Twilight City Squad
There was no comparing the standard of the battles of the amateur tournament with the professional tournament.
In particular, the shameless tactics of a certain team was particularly hateful. This was the true meaning of battle.
Just as everyone was sighing at the overwhelming strength of the duo on stage and comparing that with the Quan Zhen Sect, Worldly Indifference glared at Tranquility Yields Transcendence and said, “Are you really going to continue making a move on me?”
Tranquility Yields Transcendence answered after a moment, “Since we are on stage, I am assuming another identity… I have to put in my utmost effort and fight to the fullest. This job is also my responsibility.”
“Then you can go ahead and fulfill your duty!” Worldly Indifference raised her staff in anger and leaped off the platform, leaving behind a stunned Tranquility Yields Transcendence.
“Ah…”
The audience was also taken aback by what had happened.
“Has it ended? How are we to determine the victor?”
“That’s right! How can they fight halfway? Isn’t it the same as writing a novel and end midway through the story?”
The audience broke into a chorus of dissenting voices.
Fearless also felt regretful, “Sigh, woman, they are really not suitable for taking part in competitions.”
“What did you say?” Yang Nuo and Ling Longmeng’s faces darkened as they scowled at him.
Fearless hurriedly clarified, “I am saying a woman like Worldly Indifference. She is way too sensitive, bringing her emotions into a competition. A woman like that is a ticking time bomb but you guys are not like that.”
“Tsk!”
The two ladies were barely satisfied with his attempts to justify himself.
Wang Yu interjected at the side, “Are you saying that they are not women then?”
“Is that the case?” The two ladies came over and each pulled one side of Fearless’s ear.
Fearless scoffed, “You lowlife Bull, what grievances do you have against me!”
Since Worldly Indifference had conceded, Sanguine Squad had lost their last glimmer of hope.
Sanguine Squad was already originally not at its full strength and they had to meet a powerhouse in Sky Dragon Squad. The squad was on the verge of collapsing.
They probably could not put up a fight in the last round.
The Sky Dragon Squad still had the two experts, Thunderlord Block and Tranquility Yields Transcendence and they easily dispatched the remaining Sanguine Squad players.
…
Sanguine Squad was the first team that was eliminated. The audience were sorely disappointed.
The 1:2 odds…
The other players really suffered a loss this time.
Only the players from Quan Zhen Sect were in high spirits, they chimed, “Old Flag is really a good brother. He lost so miserably so that we could win some money. I really have to treat him to drinks next time.”
“How about today instead?”
At this moment, a familiar voice rang from the back.
The players quickly turned back and saw Sanguine Warflag cutting an isolated figure in the distance. He was not feeling as bad as everyone imagined him to be.
“Come, come, come, Old Flag, take a seat!” Vainglory was being so courteous for once because he had won some money. He offered his seat up for Sanguine Warflag.
Sanguine Warflag did not stand on ceremony as he took his seat in the middle of the surrounding Quan Zhen Sect players.
“How is it? You guys have probably made a killing.” Sanguine Warflag smiled widely and asked.
Although the players from Quan Zhen Sect were shameless, they still possessed a shred of loyalty. It was a little awkward for them to bet on Sanguine Squad losing.
Upon hearing Sanguine Warflag’s question, the players replied in a mildly embarrassed tone, “Hahaha! That is not the case, we also bet on you guys winning.”
“Haha!”
Sanguine Warflag chuckled, “Sure, sure, I know the bunch of you inside out and you guys know the situation with my squad. Even if it were me, I would not have bought myself to win.”
“How much did you bet then? Fearless further inquired in a cheeky tone.
Sanguine chuckled, “Hehe, the bookmakers are opened by me. What do you think?”
“…”
The Quan Zhen Sect were stunned and broke into a collective sigh, “You have picked up bad habits.”
“One has to act in such a way to minimise losses. Didn’t I learn this lesson from you all?” Sanguine Warflag smiled bitterly, “With this move, our squad will now have the funds to recruit a few more experts.”
“It’s a painful lesson.” Fearless patted Sanguine Warflag on the shoulder encouragingly.
This was also the main reason why the Quan Zhen Sect did not want to compete with the big guilds.
Although the big guilds were strong and robust looking on the outside, there were many internal politics and problems that an insider would be privy to.
Since the Quan Zhen Sect only consisted of a few members, it was easy to split the spoils equally. For a larger guild, it was difficult to treat each member equally since a lot of any profits had to go into the guild administrative funds.
Putting so much effort but not receiving proportionate rewards… The players from Quan Zhen Sect would not be interested in such an arrangement.
On the stage, the competition resumed.
The competition between high-level players was easy to determine. Many of these contests were determined by a single window of weakness.
In contrast, the team battles took more time.
The flow of the competition was still smooth as it went according to the schedule from noon to 10 pm. The rounds finally concluded and fifteen teams advanced to the next round.
The players from Void Blade did not have sufficient time to develop synergy so they were eliminated by Dark Moon Squad in the third round.
At this point, there was only Team A Murder of Crows left out of the three squads representing Twilight City.
The forums buzzed with potential rumours explaining the fall of Twilight City.
It was originally a great honor for Twilight City to have three squads representing her in the professional competition.
In the end, two of the teams got eliminated in the early rounds and the remaining team had a horrible reputation to boot. This outcome did not leave a good impression on Twilight City.
As the competitions for the day conclude, Wang Yu and the others saw the players from Dark Moon Squad.
Since they had eliminated Twilight City Squad in the first round, they were brimming with confidence. Deathly Dark Moon scoffed provocatively, “Did you see? Your Twilight City Squad is not even our match. Your Team A Murder Of Crows should just pack up and go home. Don’t let us meet you on the battlefield.”
This degree of provocation was not enough to elicit a response from the Quan Zhen Sect. Fearless taunted him back, “If you are afraid of us just tell us then. What are you going on and on about? We are not your girlfriend that you can beat senseless.”
“You!!” Fearless had hit his sore spot and Deathly Dark Moon’s face immediately darkened, “Your tongue sure is tough!”
Fearless chuckled, “Hehe, I have other places that are tough unlike you who can’t get it on with your girlfriend.”
His tone was extremely goading.
Deathly Dark Moon eyes reddened as he continued, “Are you looking for death.”
“Come, I am still going to say the same thing, throw a fist at me and try.” Fearless once again stuck out his face.
“Pfft!” Deathly Dark Moon was about to take action.
His squad was in close proximity and immediately restrained him.
“Let me go, I wanna kill him!” Deathly Dark Moon cried out as he struggled against his restraints.
Fearless sniggered at him, “Do you see that? You don’t even have to make a move yourself against this sort of trash.”
