Chapter 320: Life Signal Pearl Watchmen.
Continent of Arya is known for being the most advanced in terms of technology.
But, it isn't widely known as Martial Arts powerhouse because there has never been a Martial God that was born there, but that changed after the appearance of Abyss.
No one knew where he was born, it was a complete mystery, but since he spent his childhood in Arya, the Government of Arya instantly declared him as one of them.
It was a huge boost for Arya's Martial Arts Scene and even managed to defeat Marq in Youth Competitions, which used to be an impossible feat before.
The Government of Arya is known to be the one who controls the Martial Arts scene with Martial Arts Association, which is part of Government, but only their Headquarters are situated in a different place.
The Government of Arya is located in a county called Light, which is in the center of the Continent of Arya. That whole country is property of the Government, and only their workers are living there, surprisingly, the number of their workers are above 5 million.
In the center of the Light, there was a massive city with massive concrete walls that surrounded the 50km radius of the city.
In the center of the city, a massive building was seen. It was easily a height of 10km and could be mistaken as a mountain instead, except it was in the color of black with thousands of windows and entrances.
Around the building, hundreds of skyscrapers were seen and millions of smaller buildings, making the whole city look mesmerizing and incredibly packed.
On top of the massive walls, thousands of guards were seen standing. They looked stoic and solemn as they scanned the area around the wall.
No one has ever managed to infiltrate the City of Light. The ones who have made all the way to the City Gates were captured, and no one has heard of them ever since.
Inside the Government Headquarters, which was the tallest building in the City of Light. It was bustling as always, with thousands of floors equally busy.
A crowd of people was moving in and out of the entrances, and it seemed to be an everyday occurrence. Even after millions of individuals were inside the building, it didn't seem crowded; instead, there was enough space for everyone to walk freely.
Hundreds of elevators were going up and down with a dinging noise echoing in the lounge area.
Hundreds of receptionists were doing their jobs with almost robotic movement, like they had done the same movements and has said exact words thousands, no, millions of times.
On 950th floor.
There were dozens of doors, with each window showing every room being active.
The hallway was empty without any movement, but the sound of talking was heard inside the rooms.
In a room with number 8, there were three people sitting with boredom on their faces. They were sitting in three office chairs while looking at the shelf some distance away from them.
The shelf had hundreds of pearl-like items; some were glowing in green, some in yellow, some in red, and some were cracked apart in the color of black.
''So boring. I hate this job!'' A man with short black hair and an average face said. This man is called Nomo, and his work is Life-Signal Pearl Watchman.
The pearl-like items are Life-Signal pearls that tell everyone how is their government workers doing. Green shows healthy, yellow is injured, red is gravely injured, and black means dead.
''They said that this job is very respected, blah blah blah, no wonder no one wanted this bullsh*t job.'' Another man said next to him, he had ordinary brown hair with small eyes, that made seeing his eye color impossible. His name is Yung, and his work is Life-Signal Pearl Watchman.
''Sigh…'' The third person was a young man with blond hair and a somewhat attractive face. His name is Lip, and his work is Life-Signal Pearl Watchman.
He is a new Government Worker and was unlucky enough to be assigned to Watchman duty.
He was excited at first, but now he hates it with passion, and the pay isn't even that great.
They aren't allowed to use their phones or even leave the room. They have to watch the Pearls for 8 hours before their day is over and they are allowed to leave.
They expected this day to be similar to the rest, but soon, it changed into a day that changed their lives forever!
*Crac—*
''Another one bites the dust,'' Nomo said without caring much and started checking who was the one that died.
The pearl, which turns black and cracks, means that someone has died.
''Yawn…'' Yung yawned and took a piece of paper from his pocket.
Lip started going through his pockets and soon found what he was looking for; he took out a pencil and offered it to Yung, who received it with gratitude.
They have to record whoever dies or gets injured and send them to their superiors, which usually doesn't give a sh*t, but at least they can act like they do this way.
Nomo, with boredom, went through half of the Pearls fairly quickly, and it didn't even take him 5 minutes to check them all, and he frowned after he didn't see any new black Pearls.
''H-H-Hey!'' Nomo and Yung flinched after hearing Lip's scream, and they saw him pointing at another shelf, which only had 1 pearl.
It was easily the biggest pearl and most majestic-looking, but the pearl was black with cracks all around.
They paled and almost fell down on their butts as shock filled their faces.
That pearl belonged to… Abyss!
''I-Impossible…'' Lip fell down on his knees, and tears brimmed in his eyes, ''H-How can this be…''
Nomo grabbed his hair and almost pulled them from their roots, ''W-W-What… A-Abyss has died?''
Yung fell down on the chair and didn't move at all.
''R-R-Report…'' Nomo shakily grabbed the piece of paper and pencil; with a shaky hand, he wrote a name that he never thought he would.
He wrote Abyss' whole name and the time of death…
After he was done writing, with heavy steps, he left the room and went straight towards his Superior's office.
