Chapter 869: Can’t Afford To Play?
??
Li Mingde scratched his neck. He was very attentive and purposeful.
On the other hand, Sheng Yang still looked indifferent and distant. Her soft fair skin and exquisite facial features made her look like an otherworldly fairy.
No one could figure out if she really wanted this book or if she just wanted to compete with Li Mingde.
“How about this? Each of you will write down the medicinal herbs in the appendix of Lian’s Mystic Technique, and the order has to be followed accordingly. Whoever writes it correctly will be the fated person who can claim ownership of this book. If any one of you gets it wrong, I won’t be biased.”
Li Mingde’s expression froze. Then, he said firmly, “That’s impossible. Lian’s Mystic Technique has long been lost.”
“Yes.” The stall owner raised his hands. “It’s about finding the right person. What’s the point if the mission is too simple?”
Li Mingde gritted his teeth. “I think you’re determined not to sell this book. You’re trying to make things difficult, aren’t you?”
The stall owner gave a half-smile. “Who knows?”
He glanced at Sheng Yang, then he became confident. This girl probably didn’t know either, right?
Li Mingde was easy to see through, but the young woman was not. There was no emotion on her face.
...
In all his years in the underworld, this was the first time he had encountered such a situation.
The stall owner gave each of them a piece of paper and a pen. After Sheng Yang received them, she started writing without thinking. This shocked Li Mingde and the stall owner, but she didn’t stop. She was completely immersed in her own world.
Li Mingde was full of suspicion. He leaned over to take a look. ‘Isn’t it a lost book? What is she writing?’
However… the stall owner stopped him. “Hey, Dean Li, you need to be fair. You need to focus on writing your own list.”
“Do you think I’ll copy her? What a joke!” Li Mingde was so angry that he laughed. “Forget it. I don’t care what she writes.”
He racked his brain. He really wanted to get his hands on the book, but he really didn’t know the list of herbs. Hence, he made up some nonsense and handed over the paper.
Before long, Sheng Yang had finished writing. She closed the pen and handed the paper over.
Li Mingde had another question at this point. “Since it’s a lost book, how do you know the correct answer? In the end, isn’t it all up to you?”
The stall owner smiled and pointed to his brain. “I was lucky enough to read this book when I was young, and I happen to have a photographic memory. The information’s all stored here. There’s no mistake.”
The first thing he picked up was the piece of paper that Li Mingde had written on. He shook his head as he read it. Then, he said to Li Mingde, “Dean Li, I’m sorry, but you’re not the fated person for this book.”
“Oh.” Li Mingde didn’t care anymore. He couldn’t take the book, but neither could anyone else. Now that he knew the rules, he could just go back and find out the whereabouts of Lian’s Mystic Technique.
Sooner or later, the book would be his.
The stall owner picked up Sheng Yang’s paper. His smile was originally very bright, but then it turned into a small smile. Eventually, his smile disappeared. The more he read, the uglier his expression became. He frowned so hard that he could kill a fly.
Some other stall owners who did not know the truth asked him impatiently, “Little Wang, what’s the situation? Tell us.”
The stall owner stared at Sheng Yang as if he didn’t hear them. “L-Let me ask you… Where did you read Lian’s Mystique Technique?”
Sheng Yang made light of it. “At my house.”
