Chapter 159: Body of Extreme Toughness

When deities fight, mortals suffer.
Just the shockwaves from the fight alone were enough to destroy huge swaths of trees within the forest. The monsters hiding in the wings and waiting for a chance to grab some of the spoils of the war fled the scene after seeing the situation.
Director Chen was anxious. Why was this earthworm so petty? His aim was for this successfully promoted Lord tier earthworm to return and have a good “talk” with the Desert Ruler so that the military could reap the spoils of their war.
It didn’t matter which monster won that fight. Gaining either would be a valuable asset.
But this spider… I had no intention of you “talking” with this spider! It is a pseud-lord that underwent a failed evolution. Its potential is practically zero. Why must you fight it out with the spider?!
Director Chen’s heart ached, and he quietly watched to see how things would develop.
The earthworm had only just become a Lord tier monster, and its body was not yet fully recovered. After its initial surprise attack, it found that it had no real advantage over the spider. With a shake of its body, it used its special move to dig into the ground and escape.
A large hole suddenly appeared in the ground. The earth seemed to part as though it had life of its own, and after the Shatuoman Man-Eating Earthworm Lord escaped through the tunnel, it collapsed, the loose earth gradually closing up that hole that had appeared.
The female spider stabbed into the ground in anger and wiggled its limb around, causing the rest of the tunnel to collapse in on itself. With that, the spider lost all trace of the Shatuoman Man-Eating Earthworm Lord.
The Horrifying Violent Female Spider was left with a large number of injuries. After all, it was just a pseudo-lord and not a true lord, so it was at a disadvantage, even against a lord that was just promoted. Its grey skin was covered in scars large and small. Some of them had already healed, while others were still healing.
Gao Peng had seen during the fight that when the Shatuoman Man-Eating Earthworm Lord had bitten the leg of the Horrifying Violent Female Spider, large amounts of grey leg skin had come off. Because of that, the spider actually did not sustain any serious injuries after losing its first leg in the surprise attack; it just lost a layer of white, rubble-like material. Just like how wild boars rub rosin all over their thick fur and then roll in mud to form a sort of armored covering, the spider seemed to have a similar armored hide.
“This female spider expended a lot of energy during the fight, so it might be hungry,” said Uncle Liu, squinting his eyes.
The spider lay on the ground. It was hard to imagine a fifty-foot-long giant spider looking so gentle. Its eight eyes carefully observed the hole on the ground as it circled the tunnel that the earthworm lord escaped from. It looked rather silly.
At last, it realized that the earthworm had escaped for good, and it let out a wail of regret.
In the basin, however, there were still some earthworms left. When their leader had promoted and fled, a group of them had squeezed together in a rush, becoming stuck in a ball. Losing its target, the spider turned its head and looked coldly at the earthworms. Its mouthpiece slowly opened, revealing a set of ferocious fangs.
A swash of white appeared in its mouth, and in the next moment, it shot out a large amount of white silk. The silk spread out in the shape of a fan. Each droplet gathered into white little pearls which scattered in mid-air, forming a large and dense white web.
Feeling something land on them, the earthworms scrambled for escape. Only a few lucky ones managed to flee, but the rest were too slow and got stuck in the spider’s web.
The web still had one end connected within the mouth of the Horrifying Violent Female Spider. Just like reeling in a large net, the two pedipalps began to pull the net back toward its mouth.
Gao Peng’s eyes widened. To think that it used such a hardworking way to eat its prey! Then, Gao Peng’s brain suddenly twitched, and he thought of eating soy bean paste noodles…
A swath of black shadow hid within the short grass, silently approaching the female spider.
The female spider was wolfing down its food in sorrow when it felt a chill along its leg. Then, a sharp pain came. It looked down to see black balls of shadow power forming scissors and cutting off its leg. The part that was cut was the exact spot that the earthworm lord had inflicted heavy damage on during the earlier fight, and it was the point with the weakest defense.
It had already lost one leg, and now it had suddenly lost the one right next to it! It stumbled and nearly fell over. To lose two legs in such a short time was not easy to get used to.
Just as the spider stumbled, the Shadow Japalura made its move. It burst into action, become a green afterimage. It opened its big mouth and the sides of its head began to rise. The scales on its body hissed as the frills on the sides of its head spread open. A jet of air streamed out from behind, propelling it forward. The Shadow Japalura viciously bit down on one of the spider’s legs and swung its head backward.
The leg twisted in a strange manner, almost breaking off.
The spider was furious! Why do these monsters like to bite my legs?!
With a sweep of its leg, it sent the Shadow Japalura flying.
Although the leg was not broken, it was still seriously injured, and it made walking extremely difficult. The spider now had missing legs and one severely injured leg on the same side of its body.
A smile appeared on Uncle Liu’s face. “Now it can’t run away,” he said and then looked up into the sky.
They did not know when it had appeared, but above their heads circled a black shadow. And from that shadow came an unknown and frightening aura.
In the next moment, the shadow dove down, clad in raging winds as it descended and landed right in the middle of the basin.
A pale white halo was rotating beneath the feet of the giant bird. On the halo, there seemed to be tornado-like patterns.
A lord! A bird-type lord!
Everyone at the scene held their breath; their hair stood on its ends.
Although the earthworm lord and the spider pseudo-lord were both extremely powerful entities, neither of them gave off such an oppressive feeling of power.
In the previous battle, the earthworm lord had not displayed the true battle capabilities of a Lord tier monster because it had just been promoted. If it had, there was no way that it would have been chased off by a pseudo-lord.
This new arrival was a vulture. But compared to other vultures, this one had a thicker, sturdier neck. Its fierce eyes were surrounded by a circle of black, with an area of blood-red coloration at the sides of the eye. Its stare was piercing and the feathers from its neck up were all white.
But what left the greatest impression was the strong muscles that were visible all over its body! Its wings were raised high, flexing its bulging muscles. When they closed together, and the feathers formed an elegant wave pattern.
On its sturdy toes were claws that looked like large iron hooks. Its strong chest rose and fell as it breathed, and blades of violent winds formed an invisible barrier around its body, causing the surrounding shrubs to sway in the wind.
