Chapter 2011: Remains

Although the cave’s area wasn’t particularly large, Qingfeng Li and Linglong Xue’s path forward was extremely difficult.
The aura of the saint filled the cave. It was composed of two kinds of intermingling lights, Yin light and Yang light.
Black and white, Yin and Yang, the two kinds of light darted around throughout the cave, tearing space and time apart. Even the dimensional barrier was shattered, creating spinning vortices containing shards of terrifying energy. The slightest lapse of caution could result in a body full of bloody scratches.
Qingfeng Li walked at the front. His spirit energy was powerful enough that he could instantly discern the Yin-Yang lights’ trajectories and dodge out of the way.
Behind him, Linglong Xue followed. Where Qingfeng Li dodged, she followed suit.
By now, Linglong Xue had a great deal of trust in Qingfeng Li. She knew that this man had ultimate treasures and was no weaker than her.
Behind the two of them, Huozhu Chi followed close. The Huozhu Chi now had eyes filled with devilish energy. Black devilish marks crawled all over his skin, covering his energy and making it undetectable.
After walking for a while, Qingfeng Li stopped and, in a sudden movement, turned around to look behind him. However, he saw nothing.
Noticing Qingfeng Li’s odd behaviour, Linglong Xue asked, “Why are you looking behind us? Is there someone there?”
Qingfeng Li shook his head. “Not someone. But I feel like something isn’t right, like something is following us. But I can’t detect it.”
Linglong Xue lifted a brow. She shot out a beam of blood-red light from her own eyes and scanned behind them. However, she, too, found nothing.
She shook her head. “What could possibly be following us?” she said. “Our spirit energies are so strong now that, unless it’s a saint, there’s no way someone could follow us undetected.”
Qingfeng Li sighed. “Let’s go,” he said. “Continue forward. But we must be careful.”
Linglong Xue nodded. Although she didn’t sense any danger, she still believed what Qingfeng Li had said. She, too, began to move with caution.
After walking for a while, Qingfeng Li and Linglong Xue’s expressions both changed. They found a baleful spirit before them.
This baleful spirit was very large, larger than any they had seen before now. It was three meters tall, with canine teeth measuring a full thirty centimeters. Its power was at the ninth level of spirit monarch realm, stronger than the two of them by a full realm.
“Ghost Marshal,” Qingfeng Li said.
He could already tell that the baleful spirit before them was a Ghost Marshal, capable of commanding large numbers of Ghost Generals and Ghost Soldiers. No wonder it was so powerful.
The Ghost Marshal looked in Qingfeng Li’s direction and cracked open its mouth. A black tongue dangled from its mouth. Its eyes were filled with a vicious light as it tore through the air with its clawed hands, launching an attack at Qingfeng Li.
Qingfeng Li quickly swung his own fist, emitting a golden light. It collided with the clawed hand of the thing in an echoing clash. In the next instant, Qingfeng Li and the Ghost Marshal were both forced back a step.
Qingfeng Li’ expression changed. He hadn’t expected the Ghost Marshal to be so powerful as to force even him back one step.
Linglong Xue took a step forward, wanting to help Qingfeng Li. She swung her own hand forward in a beam of blood-red light, colliding with the clawed hand of the Ghost Marshal.
However, an instant later, Linglong Xue was also forced back a step. She lifted her slender brows as she said to Qingfeng Li, “It’s too powerful. We can’t contest it with strength alone. We need to use our Dharma treasures.”
Qingfeng Li nodded. With the force of his will, he took out his Sky-Breaking Halberd and, swinging it in an arc, he stabbed it forward, releasing a black vortex.
The black vortex became a powerful hurricane store, slamming into the Ghost Marshal in an instant, tearing its baleful energy into a million pieces. However, the fragments immediately began to re-coalesce and the Ghost Marshal was reformed, good as new.
Linglong Xue shook her head. “That’s not it,” she said. “You’re forgetting that these Ghost Generals and Ghost Marshals are made of baleful energy. Normal flames and thunderbolts can’t kill them.”
Qingfeng Li nodded. He had actually forgotten about his golden flame.
From within his lower abdomen, Qingfeng Li called forth the golden flame, letting them dance between his index and middle fingers. Then, he cast it heavily forward. With astonishing speed, the flames fell upon the Ghost Marshal and, in its shrieks of agony, reduced it to a pile of ashes.
In an instant, the Ghost Marshal was slain.
Seeing this, Linglong Xue’s face paled slightly. She took a step back, staring at the golden flame in terror.
From the moment Qingfeng Li had used his golden flame, Linglong Xue had been afraid. These flames burned at a raging eleven-thousand-degrees. Even a master of the Semi-saint Realm could be burned by it.
Seeing Linglong Xue’s face pale, Qingfeng Li spoke, “What are you afraid of? It’s not like I’m going to attack you with these flames.”
Linglong Xue responded with a bitter chuckle, “I know you won’t attack me. But the heat in those golden flame is too great. The technique I practice is the Blood Devil Saint Technique. I’m weakest to fire and thunder. That’s why I backed away.”
Qingfeng Li nodded, knowing that Linglong Xue was speaking the truth. It was obvious that she was a practitioner of the Blood Devil Saint Technique, which was weakest to fire. Flames could reduce all of its Blood Devils to ashes.
Having slain the Ghost Marshal, the two continued forward. Along the way, they encountered several other Ghost Marshals. However, with Qingfeng Li’s golden flame, they slew them with ease.
A short while later, the two had arrived in the depths of the cave. There, they found a set of remains. The remains were in exceptionally good condition, and they could tell that it had belonged to an old man.
The old man was advanced in years. His beard was sparse, his cheeks hollow. His body was skin and bones. His face was black on one side, white on the other.
The black side represented the Yin, the white side the Yang. This was the Yin-Yang Saint.
Beside the Yin-Yang Saint there was a set of skeletal remains. It knelt on the ground, its head bowed down to the ground in a reverent position.
Seeing the skeletal remains, Qingfeng Li’s face changed. He sensed energy similar to his own coming from the skeleton.
Qingfeng Li had already obtained the techniques and legacy of the Sun Monarch. However, inside the Bronze Sarcophagus, he had not seen the bones of the Sun Monarch.
Now that he saw the skeletal remains kneeling before the Yin-Yang Saint, he instantly understood that these were the bones of the Sun Monarch.
According to legends, the Sun Monarch was the First Disciple of the Yin-Yang Saint. It made perfect sense for him to bow toward the Yin-Yang Saint. In addition, Qingfeng Li felt that the technique he had practiced were related to this set of white bones.
Qingfeng Li walked forward, arriving at the white bones’ side. Bowing, he spoke, “Thank you, Senior Sun Monarch, for teaching me the Saint Solar Palm. Your junior was fortunate to attain your teachings.”
