Huozhu Chi stared ahead into the black fog, his expression changing. He had just been mocking Qingfeng Li, but now, there was a mass of black fog headed their way.
If this was just some ordinary black fog, he wouldn’t be afraid. The problem was that this mass of black fog took the shape of a person. The thing looked exactly like a human being, but was constructed of the black substance.
It had narrow eyes, long hair, and black fingernails. All in all, it looked like a ghost that had crawled out of Hell. From its mouth came the sniffling sound and, although it was still faint, the other two now heard it as well.
Qingfeng Li glanced over at Huozhu Chi. “I told you so,” he said. “I said there was a sound and there you were questioning me. Now, do you see?”
Huozhu Chi’s expression shifted from dark to pale, and to dark again. However, he couldn’t dispute the fact as the proof was right before their eyes.
As a woman, Linglong Xue despised these ghostly creatures. Her body shifted closer to Qingfeng Li.
Her arm bumped into Qingfeng Li’s. Feeling the soft flesh against his, he whispered to her, “What, do you have a thing for me or something? Why’re you standing so close to me?”
A flash of red swept over Linglong Xue’s pretty face. She glared at Qingfeng Li in frustration. “I’m just disgusted by these ghost-things,” she hissed at him. “It looks like it had just crawled out of Hell.”
“If they gross you out, why don’t you just kill it?” Qingfeng Li replied, nonchalant.
Linglong Xue rolled her eyes, displeased by Qingfeng Li’s lack of compassion.
However, she didn’t say anything more either. Lifting her right hand, she shot out a beam of blood-red light. Flying at breakneck speed, the beam tore through the air and into the black figure with a “Whoosh!” The black figure was blown apart.
However, a moment later, something happened that shocked all of them. The scattered black fog gathered and reformed into the exact same figure as earlier.
Linglong Xue’s expression changed. “I know what this is now,” she said. “It’s a baleful spirit. They’re said to be formed from True-Yin Baleful Energy. Normal techniques can’t hurt them at all.”
Behind them, Huozhu Chi barked in laughter. “Of course these baleful spirits aren’t afraid of normal attacks,” he said. “But they are afraid of fire. I use the Crimson Fire Flame. Let me destroy this thing.”
With the force of his will, Huozhu Chi activated the red flames within. These were the Crimson Fire Flame, given to him by the Crimson Fire Monarch. Its temperature had reached nine thousand degrees.
Huozhu Chi abruptly swung his right hand, casting out the fire he had been holding. The flames collided with the baleful spirit before them. The moment it made contact, a series of crackles came from within the baleful energy as it caught ablaze, sending the black fog into the air.
The baleful spirit gave a pitiful howl as it disappeared, glaring at Huozhu Chi.
Huozhu Chi sent a challenging look in Qingfeng Li’s direction. “See?” he said. “This is the power of my Crimson Fire Flame. With just one move, I burned the baleful spirit right up. Its temperature reaches nine thousand degrees!”
Seeing the smug look on Huozhu Chi’s face, Qingfeng Li silently called him an idiot.
As far as Qingfeng Li was concerned, flames of nine thousand degrees were nothing at all. After it had absorbed the Solar Essence, his golden flame had reached temperatures of eleven thousand degrees, two full thousands of degrees higher than Huozhu Chi’s Crimson Fire Flame. Huozhu Chi didn’t know what he was dealing with.
Qingfeng Li smiled humorlessly. Throwing a contemptuous look in Huozhu Chi’s direction, he turned his head and couldn’t be bothered to deal with him anymore. This arrogant, self-centered, cocky, and audacious bastard; Qingfeng Li had wanted to kill him for a long time now. But they were on the planet of death, and so he had to withhold his disdain.
Huozhu Chi’s expression darkened. “Qingfeng Li, what was that for?” he said, fuming. “I’m the one who had just slain the baleful spirit. How dare you look down on me? Do you really think that, just because we’re here, I can’t do anything to you?”
With that, Huozhu Chi took a step forward, releasing powerful energy that filled the sky and threatening to attack Qingfeng Li.
Not even glancing his way, Qingfeng Li lifted his foot and walked away. He wanted to know where this baleful spirit had come from.
This was, after all, a planet of death. There shouldn’t even be ghosts here. However, it had now borne baleful spirits. This meant that there were dead spirits here. Despite what they were, dead spirits were still a type of creature.
Huozhu Chi was now truly angered by Qingfeng Li’s actions. In all of the Crimson Fire Continent, he was the great and powerful First Disciple of the Ruler of the planet, and the King of a supreme dynasty. He was second to only one person, everyone else had to treat him with great respect.
Upon seeing him, every self-cultivator would kiss up to him, wearing a smile. No one had ever disregarded him like Qingfeng Li had just done, let alone look down on him.
Huozhu Chi let out a roar as he swung his right fist. Forming a Crimson Fire fist, he threw a heavy punch at Qingfeng Li.
Qingfeng Li didn’t even bother looking behind him at Huozhu Chi. He simply swung his hand behind him in the style of the Saint Solar Palm, immediately forming a wave of terrifying energy.
The Saint Solar Palm and Huozhu Chi’s fist collided, emitting an echoing boom. A moment later, the Crimson Fire Flame were blown apart. Cracks had even appeared on his fist as he staggered backward.
Qingfeng Li stood in place, not moving an inch.
Seeing this, Huozhu Chi’s face paled and his pupils contracted. There was now a hint of fear in his eyes.
“How’s that possible? You’ve reached the Monarch Level Eighth Class? That’s impossibly fast!”
Huozhu Chi stared ahead at Qingfeng Li, his eyes full of shock. He had clearly remembered that, just a short while ago, Qingfeng Li had been weaker than him. Now, he was at the same level.
What truly shocked Huozhu Chi was Qingfeng Li’s power. They had just both used one attack on each other. However, Qingfeng Li had been able to smash his Crimson Fire Flame and force him back. This meant that, purely in terms of their flames and power, Qingfeng Li had surpassed Huozhu Chi. How could he not be shocked?
Beside them, Linglong Xue also wore an expression of surprise. Qingfeng Li’s power left her in complete awe. She knew Huozhu Chi’s abilities clearly. He was someone who was on the same level as herself.
However, with a casual swipe of his hand, Qingfeng Li had overpowered Huozhu Chi. This meant that Qingfeng Li was capable of defeating her as well.
Linglong Xue stared at Qingfeng Li with an odd look on her face.
“If I’m not wrong,” she murmured, “the palm attack that you just used was the one that had once been practiced by Sun Monarch.”
Qingfeng Li nodded, smiling. “That’s right.”
Linglong Xue finally understood. She had long suspected that Qingfeng Li had already obtained the Sun Monarch’s techniques before entering the Bronze Sarcophagus. Now, it looked like her guess was indeed correct.
