“Honey, this transportation array is amazing. I can’t believe we are being transported to some unknown place. And, look, through the walls, you can even see other planets! It’s so beautiful!” walking beside Qingfeng Li, Xue Lin spoke. There was a look of wonder on her delicate face.
Qingfeng Li nodded. Holding Xue Lin’s dainty hand, he stood by her as they watched the other planets from within the array.
The planets were beautiful, spectacular even, and so close that they could reach out and feel their atmospheres.
But they did not do so, but only stood there silently in the interspatial tunnel.
Suddenly, Qingfeng Li’s expression changed. He sensed danger up ahead. Having stood on the line between life and death so many times, he was extremely sensitive to the presence of danger, more so than anyone else.
“Honey, are you alright?” Seeing the rapid change in Qingfeng Li’s expression, Xue Lin asked. She saw sweat sliding down along his forehead. “Why are you so pale all of a sudden?”
Just then, Qingfeng Li shouted, “Everyone! Start channeling your vital essence, and maintain your power. There is danger nearby!”
Having heard Qingfeng Li’s warning, the group all hurriedly channeled the vital essence in their bodies. Xue Lin, Black Puppy, Sky-Devouring Snake, the Fate Elder, Qixuan Zhenren, the Eastern Sea Prince, and the Third Princess all stared ahead wearily.
They believed Qingfeng Li; if Qingfeng Li said there was danger, there were sure to encounter some great peril.
Clang!
A sudden noise rang throughout the Crimson Fire Array. The space within the array became extremely unstable.
Xue Lin’s hand slipped out from Qingfeng Li’s grasp as she fell to the ground. He reached out, trying to grab her, when a loud clunk rang out again from the Crimson Fire Array.
Qingfeng Li’s was also thrown to the side as he fell to the ground as well.
It wasn’t just Xue Lin and Qingfeng Li: everyone standing beside them also fell to the ground and left disoriented.
Black Puppy furrowed its brows, its expression turning urgent. “Qingfeng Li,” it said. “Something’s wrong. The array is being attacked!”
Hearing Black Puppy’s remark, Qingfeng Li activated his clairvoyance. Twin beams of golden light shot from his pupils, granting him vision outside of the array’s walls.
As he anticipated, Qingfeng Li found that, outside the walls, a massive swarm of ants was attacking the Crimson Fire Array.
These ants were huge, each one the size of a water tank, with black wings growing from their backs. They charged toward the Crimson Fire Array relentlessly, seeming to smell the scent of fleshy bodies within. Their eyes were red with crazed bloodlust, their mandibles clacking.
“Void ants, these are void ants!” Black Puppy cried out in shock.
“Void ants…” Qingfeng Li’s expression turned into one of shock. There was a hint of fear in his eyes.
Before he entered the Ancient Transportation Array, Qingfeng Li had taken time to cram in some basic knowledge about the universe. He had learned that the Universe was populated by a type of powerful creature called the void ants.
Void ants specialized in attacking interstellar teleportation arrays. They would tear the tunnels apart, revealing the self-cultivators inside.
Then, these void ants would swarm in on their prey, killing them all and devouring their flesh.
“Puppy, what do we do? How do we kill these void ants?” Qingfeng Li’s face was ghastly pale as he turned to ask Black Puppy.
Black Puppy’s eyes shifted restlessly; he was trying to think of a plan of action.
The Crimson Fire Array continued on its path, transporting them forward through the interspatial tunnel. It was like riding an elevator: they had no way of stopping.
But the void ants were able to travel through the void and attack them from all directions.
As for physical attacks, those were out of the question. When they engaged in combat with these ants, the transportation array would no doubt be damaged. Should the spatial turbulence seep in through the cracks, none of them would survive.
“Qingfeng Li,” Black Puppy said urgently. “Use spiritual attacks on the ants. Under no circumstances can you use other techniques or physical attacks. Otherwise, the interspatial transportation array would be damaged.”
QingfengLi nodded. His greatest strength was his spiritual attack power. He should be able to deal with these void ants without any problems.
Qingfeng Li activated the spirit energy in his mind-space. Opening his mouth, he let loose a roar, releasing a black lion of thunder and sonic waves. It was the Sonic Thunder and Lightning Lion Roar.
Lightning danced on the surface of the sonic-lightning lion, emitting a string of thunderous crackling sounds as it slammed heavily into one of the void ants. The creature let out a piteous shriek as it fell, its wings scorched black.
But there were too many void ants gathered here, numbering in the tens of thousands. Qingfeng Li had succeeded in killing one, but far more were behind it.
Qingfeng Li knew that under no circumstances could he allow the void ants to get any closer or Xue Lin would be in danger.
Furiously propelling his spirit energy, Qingfeng Li released wave after wave of Sonic Thunder and Lightning Lion Roars. The sonic waves and lightning were extremely powerful, steadily killing the void ants around him, sending their corpses into the void.
Xue Lin, the Fate Elder, Qixuan Zhenren, the Eastern Sea Prince, and the Third Princess all released their own spirit energy in an attempt to help. But their spirit energies were far too weak, their spiritual attacks couldn’t even scratch the void ants.
Only Black Puppy and the Sky-Devouring Snake were able to help, releasing their spirit energies and killing some of the ants.
Even then, there were still too many void ants. There seemed to be no end to them as they swarmed in like a cosmic blanket. Qingfeng Li, Black Puppy, and Sky-Devouring Snake were starting to become exhaust.
After a long time, the three of them finally killed all the void ants.
Qingfeng Li was left exhausted, his face pale and his clothes soaked through with sweat. More sweat beads were steadily sliding down his forehead.
Each bead of sweat was the size of a pea, it was evident how worn out he was from the earlier exertions.
With a thump, Qingfeng Li’s body fell to the ground. He sat there, unable to get up. He was seriously tired and couldn’t move a muscle.
Thankfully, the Crimson Fire Array contained a defensive array that kept them from being harmed by the spatial turbulence outside.
Xue Lin’s delicate face showed a hint of worry as she hurried toward Qingfeng Li. She reached out her right hand, resting it on his meridians and sending her vital essence into him to help him recover.
However, when Xue Lin’s vital essence entered his body, Qingfeng Li’s face grew paler still. A thin veIl of frost appeared on his body.
“Honey, don’t give me any more of your vital essence,” he said with a forced smile as he shook his head. “Your Phoenix Immortal Chant is the ice essence of the Ice Phoenix; my vital essence is of the fire element, I can’t use it.
Hearing this, Xue Lin was visibly disappointed. She had wanted to help Qingfeng Li. But it turned out that her vital essence was the complete opposite of Qingfeng Li’s. The two were conflicting and not interchangeable.
Seeing the exhaustion and the pallor on Qingfeng Li’s face, Xue Lin felt extremely worried.
