Pampered Consort of the Fragrant Orchard Chapter 108.4: Tell Him Why the Flowers Are So Red (4)

“Thank you both for your help!” Du Xiaoli saluted them back, “But why do you all call me Mistress?”
“I told them to address you as such,” Luo Qi interjected. “Don’t forget that you are my little sister, so everyone from the Four Seas Manor must call you Mistress when they see you.”
“Reporting to Prince Ding, those people killed themselves with poison.” A deputy general came forward.
“They’re all dead?” Ji Liufeng asked.
“Yes. They all had poison in their mouths, so…” The deputy general confirmed.
“Damn it!” Ji Liufeng cursed, then ordered, “Go and remove their masks and see if any of them are people we know.”
“Yes.” That same deputy general led them down.
Du Xiaoli looked at the corpses strewn across the ground, “Luo Qi-gege, wait a second.”
After saying this, she turned to the carriage, “Princess, go in first.”
After all, right now, she was the bride-to-be, just now the circumstances had been a bit dire, so things were different. However, now that the battle was over and there were other men around, it was better not to show her face outside.
Han Mingxiang knew that Du Xiaoli had something to do right now, and although she had doubt in her heart, she still nodded and turned around to return to the carriage. Du Xiaoli closed the carriage door for her before turning around and coming back to the front.
"There's no use in looking at those people, but these two people might give us some clues." Leng Er said, approaching the two people that Luo Qi had killed.
The head of the black-clothed men was indeed from Feng Ming, but at first glance he looked like he was from the south. Ji Liufeng asked everyone to come and try to identify them, but none of them recognized them.
“This one seems like a general from Northern Rong.” Leng Er said with uncertainty. He didn’t recognize the first man, and then went to remove the burly man’s mask, and examined the middle-aged man in front of him.
This one is the general of Northern Rong, Si Lang.” Luo Qi said, taking a look.
“Yes, just now I thought I heard the man in black call him Si Lang.” Someone spoke up.
The deputy general checked all of the men in black, then returned, telling them he didn’t recognize any of them.
“If we know this is Si Lang, we can find out who is colluding with him,” Leng Er said.
“What are the casualties on our side?” Du Xiaoli asked.
“Over a hundred dead, over half wounded,” the deputy general said.
Not realizing that so many had died, Du Xiaoli felt uncomfortable in her heart. If she hadn’t hesitated in the beginning, there wouldn’t have been so many deaths. However she also couldn’t reveal her strength at whim.
She sighed, “Give the injured ones a makeshift bandage so they can hold on until we get to Lu City. Those soldiers who died, dig a pit and bury them.”
“Then what about these corpses?”
Du Xiaoli looked around. There were more than a hundred people on the other side as well; they couldn’t just be left to die in the wilderness.
“Are there many wild animals here?”
“Food is scarce here so everyone hunts. There shouldn’t be many animals,” Ji Liufeng said.
“Oh, then forget it.” Du Xiaoli was originally thinking of feeding the corpses to wild animals, but since there weren’t even animals, it was better to just destroy them. “Xia Yuan, give Bone-Dissolving Water to the deputy general.”
“Yes, Mistress.”
Xia Yuan returned to her own carriage, took a bottle, and gave it to the deputy general, instructing him to put one drop of Bone-Dissolving Water on the corpse.
And so, before the large pit for burial had been fully dug, the corpses from the other side had been turned into puddles of bloody water. Those watching this happen were taken aback, in shock.
The deputy general watched with his own eyes as he did nothing but drip water, and the corpses were gone. He exclaimed, “What a great thing for dealing with corpses!”
The soldiers digging the pit were also sighing in their hearts. If it wasn’t because it was their very friends that had died, they would have wanted to do the same, it was very convenient!
While everyone was working, Du Xiaoli, Luo Qi, Ji Liufeng, and the others ran off to the side to chat.
“I haven’t seen you since the last time we saw each other in the middle of autumn. And last time we met, we didn’t get to speak. Speaking of which, we haven’t been able to sit and chat together for years. Back then, we were even drinking buddies!” Ji Liufeng patted Luo Qi’s shoulder.
After all, back when they had lived in the Du Manor, they had all still lived together for a while, and there was quite some camaraderie.
It was especially the kind of camaraderie where no matter their identity, all that mattered was that they were friends to each other.
Who would have expected that the amnesiac teenager would be the Young Master of Four Seas Manor! Who would've known that in that simple house lived a prince and the general’s son!
This thing called fate, sometimes was truly marvelous.
Luo Qi also remembered that time of innocence and said with a smile, “Then let’s have a good drink when we get to Lu City!”
“Good!”
“However, are the people on your side reliable? They won’t tell anyone about Xiaoli, right?” Luo Qi asked uneasily.
“They won’t. These are all Han Mingyi’s people, all of them are loyal only to him.” Ji Liufeng said with certainty.
“Luo Qi-gege, you don’t have to worry too much. My strength has improved a little more again. Even if people do find out about it, I’ll be able to handle it,” Du Xiaoli said, seeing Luo Qi’s unease.
“Speaking of which, Xiaoli, you’re actually so good at martial arts, I am truly so impressed!” Ji Liufeng exclaimed, “The girl that I had laughed at back then for not even being able to learn light martial arts– for you to know martial arts at all now is already surprising. I didn’t expect that you would actually know the long-lost Sound Arts, it’s a huge shock!”
“I like shocking you!” Du Xiaoli nudged Ji Liufeng. “By the way, Luo Qi-gege, what did you guys go to Northern Yuan for?”
“It was my father who sent me over. Given the recent turmoil in the Northern Yuan, our villa in the Northern Yuan has suffered some damage, it’s not too big of a deal,” Luo Qi said.
If his dad had sent him over personally, the damage must not have been small. But if he wasn’t elaborating, they wouldn’t push the subject.
“Is everything taken care of?”
“There’s always some damage, but things are under control now.”
“That’s good.”
After the soldiers moved the things from the damaged carriage to the other carriages and the dead soldiers had been buried, Du Xiaoli and the others set off again.
Neither Luo Qi, Mu Shan, nor Mu Shui had horses. Du Xiaoli gave up her own horse to Luo Qi; for any matter her horse had been prepared just for when she wanted to take a ride every once in a while.
As for Mu Shan and Mu Shui, they would have to walk back.
As soon as Du Xiaoli returned to the carriage, she was immediately grabbed by Han Mingxiang, who asked her to explain how she had known about the Sound Arts. Du Xiaoli told her there were too many people here now, but that she would tell her once they arrived in Lu City. Only then did Han Mingxiang let her go.
Seeing the curiosity in Han Mingxiang’s gaze, Du Xiaoli suddenly remembered a saying: women are the worst gossips!
Given that more soldiers were injured now, everyone walked more slowly, and another person was sent to Lu City to find the magistrate and ask for horses and carriages.
As soon as the magistrate of Lu City, Mr. Fan Guo, heard that Han Mingxiang had been assassinated on the road, he hurriedly came over with a large group of people and even prepared more carriages and horses. After meeting up with Du Xiaoli and the others, the more seriously injured soldiers boarded the extra carriages, and the less seriously injured ones rode the horses.MoonWhisperer, skyrise's Thoughts
