Han Mingxiang, starting from today until they reached Northern Yuan for the marriage, no longer had to wear her phoenix headdress and heavy gown. This meant she also did not have to draw wedding makeup, so in the morning she got dressed simply, ate breakfast, put on her veil and went out.
Du Xiaoli helped her board the carriage. As she passed in front of Ji Liufeng, Han Mingxiang subconsciously paused, and her hand tightened its grip on Du Xiaoli’s hand.
“Princess.” Du Xiaoli softly called.
Han Mingxiang nodded, and followed Du Xiaoli onto the carriage, stepping on the stool to get up.
Du Xiaoli glanced at Ji Liufeng before also boarding the carriage, closing the door behind her.
Ji Liufeng’s gaze had been on Han Mingxiang from the moment she came out. When he saw her lingering in front of him, the hand gripping the hilt of his sword instantly tensed tightly. He had even thought Han Mingxiang was going to say something to him. Seeing her wordlessly get onto the carriage, his eyes flashed with loss.
Due to the weather, the group couldn’t sleep in the wild, so if the next city was too far away, they would have to settle in early. However, their route had been planned beforehand, and the magistrate at the next city had also been notified, so everything had already been properly prepared.
After four days of this, at night, Du Xiaoli had just returned to her room after helping Han Mingxiang settle in to rest, when suddenly Leng Er came to call her out. Although she was somewhat surprised that Leng Er would come to find her, she still followed.
Leng Er took Du Xiaoli all the way outside of the city, to a hill on the city outskirts. Du XIaoli saw a dozen or so people standing on the hill, and when she got a good look at them, she turned back to Leng Er in surprise, “What’s this?”
Why hadn’t he told her that there were two Han Mingyis here?
“Princess Consort, try to guess which one is Master?” Leng Er said, as if selling out his master.
Du Xiaoli glared at Leng Er, and went straight to the Han Mingyi on the left, asking, “What’s going on here? Who is he?”
Leng San and the others looked at Du Xiaoli in surprise, “Princess Consort, how did you know? Did Leng Er secretly snitch to you?”
“Does he need to snitch on this?” Du Xiaoli reached out and pinched Han Mingyi’s face. “Even if this skin is the same, the way you look at me is different.”
Han Mingyi grabbed Du Xiaoli’s hands, “Why are you pinching me if you know it’s me!”
“I’m pinching to see if I guessed right.” Du Xiaoli replied, “Who told you guys to come up with this disguise between the real one and a fake one. Who is this?”
The fake Han Mingyi reached out and removed the human skin mask from his face, revealing clearly that it was Leng Yi.
"Leng Yi?!" Du Xiaoli felt that this was both expected and unexpected. "What are you guys doing here, and what's up with calling me here?" When she saw the horses below, she was surprised and said, "You guys are leaving?"
Han Mingyi nodded, “Something’s happened in the capital, and I must go back. For the remainder of this time, Leng Yi will pretend to be me, accompanying you guys.”
“Pretending… you’re going to sneak back secretly? Isn’t this troublesome?” Du Xiaoli asked.
“Mm, some unexpected things have occurred,” Han Mingyi answered.
“Will this be dangerous?” Du Xiaoli asked worriedly.
Han Mingyi was happy to see the worry in Du Xiaoli's eyes and reached out to touch her face, saying, "Don't worry, it will be fine. You just take care of things over here. Although Leng Yi is pretending to be me, his voice doesn't sound like me after all, and I am leaving without telling the marriage procession group. So tomorrow, he will say that his throat is not feeling well, and he will try to keep quiet for the rest of the time. Then it will be up to you and Liufeng to help out a bit more. Your orders directly represent my orders."
“I know.” Du Xiaoli nodded.
“Master, it’s time to get on the road,” Leng San stepped forward, saying.
Han Mingyi crooked his fingers, motioning for the others to stand by below first. Ji Liufeng, Leng Er, and Leng Yi also left the mountain pass.
"You'll have to put in more effort while I'm gone. Leng Yi and Leng Er will stay behind to help you out. Make Leng Yi's false identity last as long as it can." Han Mingyi admonished, "Also, take care of yourself."
"I know. You go back and be careful with everything." Du Xiaoli said.
Han Mingyi placed a gentle kiss on Du Xiaoli's lips before leaping and easily landing onto a horse that was a hundred meters away. He glanced back at Du Xiaoli and pulled the reins to leave.
Du Xiaoli watched Han Mingyi leave. Her intuition told her that Han Mingyi's departure had something to do with what Du Yunhan had been busy with before...MoonWhisperer, skyrise's Thoughts
