Du Xiaoli didn't know what to say in this moment, so she simply reached out and held Han Mingxiang's hand.
After a while, Han Mingxiang relaxed and smiled faintly at Du Xiaoli, saying, "I'm okay."
“Mm. For this whole journey there, I'll be the Princess's crude servant girl– does the Princess need anything right now?" Seeing her relax, Du Xiaoli followed suit and joked around, blinking her eyes playfully at her.
“Pfft—” Seeing Du Xiaoli’s appearance, Han Mingxiang laughed from the bottom of her heart and then sighed, “It’s a pity that Liuxia and the other girls didn’t come to see me getting married.”
“Who said they didn’t come? If you’re getting married, no matter what, they would definitely come,” Du Xiaoli responded.
“How…” Han Mingxiang hadn’t finished her thought when she heard the sound of the carriage driver bringing the horse to a halt.
Ji Liufeng looked at the two people standing in front of him and frowned, scolding Ji Liuxia, “What are you guys doing?”
"Brother, the Princess is getting married, we're here to see her off. Just for a little bit." Ji Liuxia finished pulling Fu Yalan around the troops and ran towards Han Mingxiang's carriage.
"Don't mess around, you guys..."
Ji Liufeng wanted to stop them, but Han Mingyi raised his hand to stop him, saying, "They specifically chose a place so far outside of the city, it’s basically a sign of their genuinity. Just let them go."
"Yes." Ji Liufeng answered, turning to look at the carriage door.
Han Mingxiang looked at Du Xiaoli, her face full of joy, and she was about to open the door and go out when Du Xiaoli tugged her back.
“Put this on.”
Du Xiaoli put the veil on Han Mingxiang before opening the carriage door and shoo-ing the carriage driver away.
Ji Liuxia's hand pressed down against the carriage panel with force, propelling herself on to sit on the carriage panel. Fu Yalan couldn't do such a bold maneuver and simply stood on the other side of the carriage.
Although she was wearing a veil, Han Mingxiang still instantly recognized which of them was which.
"I thought you guys wouldn't come to see me off!"
"How could we not come to see you off when you’re getting married." Ji Liuxia pouted, "It's just that we can't accompany you like Xiaoli. Originally, we planned to see you off at the palace gates, but the Emperor and the civil and military officials were there, so there was no room for us to partake at all. It's not like we could have stopped your carriage inside the city, so Yalan-jiejie said to come outside the city and wait for you."
"It's a pity that we’re still missing Jiangzhuo." Han Mingxiang sighed.
"Princess, think of it from a different angle– you're getting married today and Jiangzhuo is still on the road right now. Both of your carriages are on the road, so you guys are basically getting married at the same time," Fu Yalan said.
"That’s right, that’s right!" Ji Liuxia nodded and said.
"You just know to agree with others!" Du Xiaoli looked at Ji Liuxia, amused.
"Princess, be careful on the road this journey. Take good care of yourself," Fu Yalan said.
"I know." Han Mingxiang nodded.
"Princess, I've heard that Northern Yuan is much colder than it is here, so don't waste the martial arts I taught you. It's best to practice them daily, the internal force can repel the cold, so at least you won't freeze so easily," Ji Liuxia admonished.
“Mm, I will.”
"Princess, no matter where you are, I will remember what we said back in the Wolf Park. We will forever be best friends and sisters!" Fu Yalan said as she held back her tears.
“I will remember too.”
Han Mingyi turned his horse around and said, "Alright, it's time to depart. Otherwise we won't be able to make it to the town before dark."
"Alright, you guys go back. I can't go to your guys’ marriage ceremonies, but I wish you all happiness." When Han Mingxiang finished speaking, she retreated into the carriage.
"Xiaoli, you must take good care of the princess." Ji Liuxia said.
"I will. You guys should go back." Du Xiaoli finished and followed Han Mingxiang into the carriage, closing the door behind her.
Fu Yalan and Ji Liuxia stepped off to the side, watching as Han Mingyi waved his hand to start moving again, and the carriages slowly drove past them.
"I hope Zhao Zhen treats the princess better."
"The princess married so far away, if he dares to treat the Princess badly..."
"Sigh, let's go back."
Han Mingxiang took off her veil, her eyes red as she forced back tears.
Du Xiaoli took a handkerchief to wipe her tears, saying, "Yalan-jiejie and the other girls wouldn’t want you to be like this."
"I don't want to either, it's just that when I think about how I might never see them again in the future, I feel a little sad in my heart." Han Mingxiang wiped her tears. Seeing that Du Xiaoli had taken out her handkerchief, revealing the flute inside her bag, saying, "Xiaoli, why do you still carry this flute with you?"
Du Xiaoli glanced at it and pulled the flute out from inside her bundle, saying, "This is something that’s very important to me."
"I didn't realize you could still play the flute," Han Mingxiang exclaimed.
"Actually, I'm best at the flute. I only know a little bit of other instruments, but I haven’t really mastered them." Du Xiaoli stroked the phoenix on top of the flute. Ever since last time– when she had traveled north to look for medicine but encountered an interception– she always brought it with her when she went out.
"That's still pretty impressive!" Han Mingxiang said, "I used to think I was very impressive, but then I met you, and I realized I was nothing more than average. The one who was truly powerful was you!"
"Princess, you're brushing me off again." Du Xiaoli laughed. She couldn't tell Han Mingxiang that it was because many things were things she had known in her previous life.
"I've never heard you play the flute. There's nothing to do right now anyway, so why don't you play a few tunes for me to pass the time," Han Mingxiang proposed.
