Chapter 1351 Racked Her Brains? 1
“Doris is behind it?” Xi Xiaye very quickly processed this information and understood.
Mu Yuchen nodded calmly. After a while, he continued, “Doris cheating on Gu Qiwu isn’t a recent event. Why do you think she’s been frequenting England these past few years?”
“Well…I remember that you told Ah Mo before that it was because…could it be that man who went after Zimo?” Xi Xiaye gasped.
“It’s as you think. Your guess is almost right. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have let Zimo stay over there. We must cut off all of Doris’s backup. Apart from being vicious, she’s also a very paranoid and indecisive person. On one hand, she needs a competent helping hand. On the other hand, she must make sure the other person is controlled by her.”
Upon hearing him say this, Xi Xiaye came to a realization. No wonder he seemed to be talking on the phone with Zhou Zimo frequently as of late. It was probably about cutting off Doris’s escape routes. However, Xi Xiaye started to have questions now, and she slowly looked at him. “Are you saying that Doris might be thinking of running off? Is that why you’re cutting off her escape plans?”
“I can’t be sure. After all, I can’t predict the future outcome. I can only plan ahead.”
When she heard that, Xi Xiaye sighed softly. “True, for a woman like her, only by cutting off all her hopes will she stop being restless! No wonder you didn’t look worried when I told you that Gu Lingsha went off to England.”
“Why should I be? Without any help, she’s trapped.”
“You speak with ease, but Ah Mo and Qi Lei are still nowhere to be found, and the New Year is coming soon…”
“Don’t worry. Doris isn’t such a rash person. As long as we cut off all her wings, she’ll fall into a desperate state. At such a moment, she wouldn’t dare touch a hair on Ah Mo and the rest. They will have to become her trump card to protect herself instead. You need to be a little smarter. It’s good to be well versed in solving problems in a more roundabout way as it can actually be a very useful strategy. Initially, I wasn’t too sure if this could work, but seeing as how Doris sent Gu Lingsha off to England, I’m surer that it could work,” Mu Yuchen’s lowered voice came through.
When he finished, Xi Xiaye’s heart could not help but tighten, and she let out a long sigh. Suddenly, she reached out to hold his hand and fixed her eyes on him. Her gaze contained deep love and sorrow as she sighed and said, “You’re really quite bold. Do you know that by doing that, you are no doubt putting in a huge gamble? What if you lose? Aren’t you afraid?”
Upon hearing that, Mu Yuchen only chuckled. “Of course, I’m afraid, but based on the way things are going, my luck’s not too bad, isn’t it? I’m gambling on my buddies’ capabilities and gambling on all our luck. What else can I do right now?”
At this, he suddenly paused and held her slightly cold hand. “Xiaye, just like how I gambled on you back then, I dared to use my marriage and gamble for a life with you. I betted on the fact that you’d be my woman, my most perfect wife. In that situation with no other choice, did you not gamble your life with me too?”
When she heard him, she felt a warmth in her heart, yet she could not help but feel slightly pained too. She was sad about all the stress and troubles he had to bear…
Holding his hand, she held it against her own chest as she looked sadly at him. With a faint smile, she said, “If it were me, I would’ve broken down by now. Mr. Mu, every day I spend with you is one full of positive energy. No matter what time of the day it is, I always see hope. I really like this feeling. Thank you!”
He chuckled upon hearing that. Then, he could not help but lift a hand to pat her head. His tone was as gentle as water as he replied, “If you really want to thank me, you need to put in more effort tonight. I’ll play a game of the heiress and the young servant, hmm?”
At this juncture, she suddenly felt as if her face was burning up. She glared at him with embarrassment and said through clenched teeth, “I want to play a game of the queen and the palace eunuch!
“You’ve been corrupted!” He shot her a side glance though he was chuckling with pursed lips.
“Thanks to a certain someone!” Xi Xiaye rolled her eyes at him and smacked his thigh. “I want to have a sundae, Mr. Mu!”
“I thought you didn’t like sweet things?” He looked at her questioningly.
“Won’t you let me?” She shot him a glance that seemed to pressure him.
When she said that, Master Mu proved himself with concrete action. “Chauffeur Wang, turn around and go to the McDonald’s beside the New Era Plaza.”
“Yes, Master!” The chauffeur quickly turned around and drove towards the city center.
…
As compared to the joy between Mu Yuchen and Xi Xiaye, Doris’s end was beyond gloomy.
In the large, luxurious living room, Doris was sitting on the sofa with a dark expression. With one hand on the teacup before her, she looked down at the magazine before her silently, yet her eyes were not focused as she seemed dazed.
“Miss, Qi Feng is here!”
Only when Glenn’s voice came through did she gather her thoughts. She eased her mind as she looked up, and indeed, she saw Morrison slowly wheeling Qi Feng over to her.
“Hello, Miss Doris!” Morrison greeted.
Nodding, Doris slowly let go of the teacup in her hand, and gave Glenn a look. Glenn quickly made a cup of tea for Qi Feng before retreating, and Morrison followed him out.
Morrison’s steps had just vanished out the door when Doris’s cold voice was heard. “I thought you’d be so busy that you wouldn’t even have time to meet your mother-in-law.”
While Qi Feng’s expression remained unchanged, he answered quite humbly, “I wouldn’t dare. There have just been too many things going on at the company recently. I’m sure you can understand my current situation.”
Qi Feng had been quite busy recently. On one hand, he needed to handle work matters. On the other hand, he had to handle Qi Qiming with regard to Qi Lei’s matter. Of course, he did not want to see Doris either. If Qi Qiming noticed this, he…
“Situation? Qi Feng, I helped you resolve quite a bit of trouble. You seem to be doing well now.” A sneer flashed on Doris’s lips as she slowly leaned back against the sofa.
“I remember that we decided back then that I’d cooperate with you, and provide you with information and evidence, so that constitutes a collaboration. I wonder what you mean right now.” A cold light flashed from the depths of Qi Feng’s eyes, and the smile on his face was not sincere. “I’m very sincere, but, Mother, your attitude is making me very unhappy.”
