Chapter 188: Dark Alley
In a remote corner of the city Eyrin, a luxury car roamed the streets of the suburbs at a very slow speed, as if looking for something.
"Young master, let's get out of here. In all my years, both as Blessed and as your personal guard, I have never felt so uncomfortable in a situation like this," said an old man who was driving the luxury car.
In the back seat of the car there was a young man with an animated expression as he looked out the window. "Bernard, you are a peak Blessed Rank C. Even though your age is starting to show, your strength is still around. Ordinary Blessed Rank D can't even think of doing anything to hurt you."
Hearing this, the chest of the old man who drove the car swelled with pride. Bernard was truly very proud of the strength he had attained, and the prestige he had had when he was younger. If it weren't for the father of his young master, had he not saved the entire Bernard family from an attack by monsters from a Fortress that exploded near his house at a time when he wasn't there, Bernard wouldn't have stooped to such a occupation, but he was doubly grateful to the young man's father, as he had developed a fatherly love for the boy he had had a hand in raising.
But Bernard was not going to let these things cloud his actions. "Young master, I am already old. If the person we are going to meet has strength at least in Rank C, you know that I alone may not be able to deal with that person..." he said worriedly.
"Don't worry Bernard. I'm already at the peak of Rank D; I can help you. I had just emailed that person out of curiosity. But who knew that person would answer me? If what they demonstrated publicly is really true, I will be able to reap many fruits by being the first to get a contract with him," the young man said with an excited expression, already imagining the things he could accomplish in the future with the help he would receive.
Bernard saw the expression on the young man's face and sighed. He had already grown out of that age, but he knew that young people like that were very impulsive and idealistic, but only experience would change the perception of the young.
As they followed the GPS route they had received, the surrounding environment was getting more and more strange. The houses next to his, which were once very rich, were now getting poorer and poorer, until they reached a point where they realized they were already in a slum.
Bernard was on full alert, and even the young master had his hand on his waist, holding a sword tightly, prepared in case something happened.
Fortunately, they soon found the point of arrival. It was not because it was a place with a striking building, or a house different from the others, but because, like their own, there were two other luxury cars parked at the entrance to a dark alley, cars that contrasted a lot with the place.
Probably, if they were to put the three cars up for sale, they could buy an entire street of houses in that neighborhood.
After seeing that there were already two more cars, the young man had an expression of disgust on his face. He thought he would be the first to come into contact with that mysterious Blessed stranger who came out of nowhere. But he was wrong; there were other people even faster than him who even got here ahead of him.
But with a steady look, the young man got out of the car accompanied by Bernard and went into the dark alley without fear.
Upon entering that environment, he soon realized that the other two faces he came across were familiar. They were not close friends because they were from different cities, but because they were all people of high society they at least knew each other and knew each other's names.
This surprised the young man even more, since apparently these people from another city either were already in the city of Eyrin and decided to contact this mysterious person or came specifically to see this mysterious person. But since everyone's status was very similar, the young man doubted that they would come from afar just to see this person.
With a nod of greeting to each one, the young man stood at what seemed to be the end of the line and looked at his watch, confirming that he was still three minutes early.
The place was quite tense. But with the arrival of the young man and Bernard, the place became calmer. Before they were afraid to meet a Blessed Rank C who alone controlled several monsters that apparently were even more powerful than Rank D, but now seeing that a powerful Blessed Rank C like Bernard had arrived and was also beside them, they knew they were safer.
When the clock reached exactly 00:00, suddenly everyone heard a strange noise from the back of the alley.
From the back, a man in a completely black outfit and with an Oni face was looking at everyone there without fear. Even Bernard knew that the monster-faced man was not afraid of him, despite the fact that he was a Blessed Rank C. This served to further alert the old man.
"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. I'm glad that none of you were late as I value your time so much. I also value mine very much, and seeing that we both value our time, it makes this type of transaction much smoother. In order not to waste our time, I will explain how the transactions will take place publicly, and after that we will make the arrangements in a private environment. Sorry for the lack of hospitality, but currently my office is still under construction, so we will have to do it right here. As compensation for my terrible hospitality, I will offer you each a 10% discount on our first deal," the man with the face of red Oni said in a very professional and elegant way, totally different from what they imagined of someone with that appearance, who seemed to be quite barbaric.
"As you already know, I am deciding to take a break from the invasions of Fortresses. But the same as our oldest friend over there," he said as he pointed at Bernard, "as you can see, I still have my Blessing and my old strength. As part of a previous generation, I want to be able to contribute to the current generation by renting the services of my little imps, in addition to, of course, getting extra income for my trouble. The rental of imps will be limited to a maximum of three per person. For those who want to know how this will work, you will have a free trial period of a minute to understand how the contract will work and how you will be able to control my imps. A Blessed Rank F would easily be able to control them, let alone people like you who are already much more powerful than the average."
Listening to the man's entire speech, the young man caught many things between the lines. First of all, this person in front of them was a veteran of invading Fortresses, that is, he probably had vast battle experience. Another thing, this man had a family of which he needed to take care. At that age, probably a wife, children, maybe even grandchildren that he wanted to give an even better life. And last and most importantly... he didn't want anyone to monopolize the monsters he controls. This limit of imps per person was probably to prevent a single person from renting all the imps he had and leaving nothing to anyone, and that would clearly go against what he said of helping the younger generation, besides of course, getting in the way of spreading word about his imps. After all, the more people using them, the more people will know and be interested.
"Very well, leaving that aside, I believe that we will already be able to start our negotiations. According to the fair and ancient idea of ??"First come, first served", you two may step forward," the man said as he pointed to a pair of a young man and an older man.
This made people there in that alley even more alert. After all, for this man to know who had arrived first, it meant that he had been watching them the whole time. Even Bernard was very surprised, since he only felt the presence of this man when he made that strange noise at the bottom of the alley, probably after he wanted his presence to be noticed. Perhaps if it were not for that noise, by the time he would have realized the presence of this man it would have already been too late.
Observing the two people following the strange man, the young man looked with interest. After a minute, a strange red light came out of the abandoned building they had invaded, which made the four who were left behind very alert.
But as no battle sounds came from inside, they didn't care that much.
After a few minutes, the two people who entered the abandoned building left, accompanied by three small red imps who looked around with hostility.
This greatly surprised the other four who were waiting for their turn to be served, as they now had confirmation that this was 100% real. Even more after they saw those imps acting very obediently beside the young man when leaving that place, even walking in a straight line, probably having been ordered to do so by that young man.
With that excitement, time soon passed, and from out of the building the second pair of people left with three more imps, leaving only the young man and Bernard standing in the alley waiting for their turn to be served.
