Chapter 143: Care
After some time, Carlos finally managed to put his thoughts in the right place, and managed to think of some productive suggestions. "Noah, there are some important details that you forgot to put into the equation."
This was exactly what Noah wanted from Carlos; Carlos' business vision would be very useful for what he was thinking. As much as Noah was very detailed and cautious, he knew he would not remember all the important details that would involve this business. Then, with an expectant look, Noah asked Carlos what he could do about it.
"Firstly, since you are empowering people who 'shouldn't have such power', people who already have power may be angry and not accept it so well of course, unless they are given power too. Do you believe your imps would benefit higher ranks too?" Asking if someone could empower people already with Blessings may have been a question never seriously asked in the world, but after what Noah demonstrated, Carlos lost some of his common sense and just asked what came to mind after Noah having shown him so many unbelievable things.
Hearing his friend's question, Noah began to think deeply. He knew that for Blessed Rank D, an imp could be useful, but not as much as it would be for Blessed Rank F or E. But for that he could have another alternative, however, it would be something he would have to wait for until the future. For the time being he didn't know if it would be possible. "Maybe in the future, but not now."
"Okay, if you can't provide something like that, then I suggest you use the obligation otherwise to hide. Force anyone who signs the contract to only talk about you using a pseudonym, and don't let these people reveal anything that isn't yet public knowledge. This, in addition to keeping a mystery about you which attracts curiosity, and curiosity consequently attracts potential customers, will also assure you your anonymity. With your skills I believe it is quite possible for you to remain an obscure figure. After all, firearms skills are the most common in the world." Carlos then said with a serious expression, "If you let your identity become loose, I don't doubt that some of the most powerful people will even try to deal with you in the near future. Even if you are confident of dealing with a Blessed Rank C, if the most powerful get together, do you believe that you can handle 5 blessed Rank C trying to kill or capture you?"
This was something that Noah had disregarded. The city was very large, but the number of Blessed Rank Cs was very low, to the point that there were probably no more than 20 out of the millions of people who lived here. If a single Rank C tried to kill or capture him, Noah was sure he could get away, but if there were 5, he wouldn't be so sure. The most dangerous thing about Blessing was how unpredictable they were, and that's exactly what Noah was concerned about. If among those 5 Rank Cs that came, by chance there was one with a Blessing that would hold him to this plane so he wouldn't teleport, he would have to stay and fight, something he was not so confident about.
"You're right... I thought you could start showing myself since I don't care so much about blessed Rank C, but if the number is too high, I don't have that much confidence at the moment that I could handle things. But if business goes as well as it seems it will, I'm guessing, I don't think it will be like this for long," Noah said as he crossed his arms.
What attracted Noah's attention the most was not that he made money from it at all, but the part of the skill that specifically said: "Part of the exp of the monsters that the imps killed would go to Lucifer". At the moment, Noah as the Descendant of Lucifer would be the only one who would receive these extra exp points. Thinking of at least 10 imps breaking into Fortresses every day, the time for Noah to actually reach Rank C was very close.
If only being Rank D, Noah had managed to hold on and keep fighting for a while against a Rank C like Leon, if he were truly Rank C, that strength would intensify even more. At this point, dealing with those Blessed Rank C who might think they can control him would be easier than one thinks.
"We are going to develop the best way to use this contract on others. I believe that in a few days this business will already be working and could yield a lot of profit," Carlos said excitedly.
Patrick was feeling a little out of place with their conversation. Since he couldn't understand much of what they were saying, he decided to focus on the imp he had summoned and test the little devil's strength.
Testing running speed, strength, physical endurance and pain resistance, Patrick found that the little devil could kill him anytime he wanted if he wasn't the one who controlled him. The low Rank F strength he had was not even enough to contain the Rank E strength that that small body contained. Only the sharp claws he had in his hand could cut Patrick's neck with ease because of his high agility.
While this made Patrick swallow a little worriedly, it also made him excited to invade a Fortress. This would be the first time that he would really want to invade a Fortress, since he had full confidence in the strength of the Rank E devil to keep him from having to take so much risk inside.
Patrick just didn't leave now because he had respect for Noah who had given him this opportunity. Even more that he would not need to pay rent for the contract; he could invade the Fortress and keep 100% of the money for himself.
Just thinking about that money already made Patrick's belly growl hungrily again. Even though he had left the steakhouse less than an hour ago, he ate very little there, and was ashamed to accept the meats that Noah offered him.
But now that he would be the one to earn that money, he could go to the steakhouse and spend $100 on food without feeling the fear of starving the next day.
If it weren't for Noah providing this to him, Patrick didn't even know what he could do in the future. So since Noah had assigned him to test this little devil in a Fortress, he would do just that and try to get as much information as possible, even if he had to be completely depleted of energy and keep calling the little devil over and over.
While Patrick trained the little devil and tried to find the most efficient way to control him, Noah suddenly called his name.
"Patrick! We will be discussing for a while more about the method of operation we will be using, but for that we will need some information. Can you go to a Fortress today? It is still 12:48 pm, maybe you can get back during the night to tell us the results. I'll pay a Woober for you to go to GBC headquarters," Noah said in such a serious tone of voice that Patrick supposed it was due to what the other two were talking about at the time, being very serious.
This was the perfect opportunity for Patrick. It was exactly what he was wanting to do, but he didn't want to be disrespectful and interrupt them both, so with an excited nod, Patrick took out the old cell phone and with the broken screen he had and opened it the GBC app to get in line to break into a Rank F Fortress.
Looking at the data, there were more Fortresses than usual appearing in the region, which meant that there would indeed be an invasion available for him to do that afternoon. As the number of Blessed Rank Fs was very high, the waiting time to invade a Fortress was often 24-48h, but because of this slightly larger number of Fortresses, Patrick got a spot for an invasion at 13:30, apparently because a Blessed One had given up at the last minute, which was perfect for Patrick.
The car from the Woober app Noah asked for arrived quickly, going to GBC headquarters in no time.
Upon arriving there, Patrick was happy that there were no dicks among the Blessed Ones in the group, as he could not stand to be mocked and intimidated by people who had only slightly greater strength than his own.
This time, his entire group was made up of concentrated people. Since the mortality rate in Rank F Fortresses was the highest among low-ranking Fortresses, many of them used their time on the bus to concentrate and focus enough to keep from dying.
Patrick spent the whole time caressing his hand and playing with the tattoo of the pentagram which was there, and had appeared and disappeared shortly thereafter. For the first time he was not afraid of death inside a Fortress, and if he was lucky, he could be considered the "MVP" of the invasion (a more gamer way that he liked to call those who contributed the most), and maybe even receive a bonus.
While Patrick was excited about how many monsters he could kill to be recognized by the team as powerful and the most useful, Noah was looking forward to seeing how the Exp points he would get from the little devil killing monsters would work. He knew that other people also received exp because these people took a percentage of how much he earned when they fought a Boss together.
Noah hoped that the little imp would take a part of the Exp from each of the monster deaths as well, which meant that Noah would take a part of the Exp too, and with 10 imps invading Fortresses all the time, perhaps at the end of the day the exp that Noah received with all 10 working may end up being greater than what he received by breaking into a Rank D Fortress or a Rank E one alone.
