Chapter 139: Rank D
Seeing Noah leave the Fortress unscathed made the government agent think he saw how dangerous that place was and just gave up on invading it to keep his life, which was an attitude that the man respected, since it was difficult to find young people so mature as to know when to retreat and not just die in a tragic way.
With a smile on his face, the man approached Noah as he reached out for a handshake as he spoke. "Congratulations, boy, I found your attitude very mature."
Noah's hand unconsciously reached out to shake the other man's hand in an involuntary way, while his face gradually changed to an expression of confusion for not understanding what the man was trying to express when he said that.
'What attitude did I have that was so mature? I just completed a Fortress.' Noah wondered without understanding. But since his hand was already clasped with the other man's, who had a genuine smile for him, Noah would feel bad to have taken his hand away now and ignore this man who was clearly happy for something he had done.
"Thank you, but can I know what I did that was so commendable?" Noah asked with a confused expression, truly curious.
Now it was the man's turn to be confused,, since Noah had clearly given up on the fortress in his view. After all, it had only been 30 minutes since Noah had entered, and he left without any injuries. If it were a team of Blessed people who had invaded that place, it would have taken them at least two to three hours to finish the Fortress, but Noah, who was young and entered alone, having left there in such a short time and unharmed, in the man's view there was no other explanation unless Noah had given up.
Then the man answered Noah, "No need to worry; there is nothing shameful about backing down when you understand that it will be difficult to go through that situation. I was once a Blessed person and did things like that. I understand."
Noah was looking at the face of an older man, a man's man, who was teaching the younger generation. Suddenly, the gears in Noah's head were finally coming together and turning in the right direction.
Noah had gotten strong so quickly that he started to realize that his concept of strength was becoming distorted. Because of how fast he became strong, he didn't realize that breaking into a Fortress and killing the Boss in such a short time was already something incredible for a group, and as he had done it alone, it would probably get even more attention.
Noah always tried to escape attention, but for the plans he had in mind, he decided that being in the spotlight from now on might not be a completely bad choice. If something went wrong, he could just go back into hiding, and hardly anyone from this city could catch him.
Even if he couldn't fight head-to-head with a Blessed Rank C, just as he was unable to in his fight against Leon at the fight club yesterday, that didn't mean that someone in Rank C would be able to arrest him somewhere with the skills he had at his provision now. The small battalion of imps would do a great deal of damage wherever they were released, and then adding the teleportation he had, the flames of hell and the derivations he had developed of them so far, and the superior statistics he had gathered, only now did Noah realize that he was almost at the top of the city.
He wouldn't be blinded by power, but he felt it was time to step out of the shadows and start building a reputation for himself beyond his character Lucifer's reputation on Valorwatch.
"I'm sorry. I think you got it wrong, in fact, I subjugated the Fortress," Noah said matter-of-factly. The man was treating him so well that he didn't want to be rude to him.
Hearing Noah's response, instead of frowning, the man opened a small smile on his face as if he knew the truth and began to answer Noah, "It's okay, I kn-", but before the man could finish his sentence, the big black portal with the purple plasma started to shake just behind Noah.
The man quickly ran to the side of the portal and realized that the portal was truly beginning to disappear, right there in front of him. Just like when... when someone completed the Fortress. Having understood this, the man ran to Noah again with a look of wonder.
The man was a peak Blessed E Rank with a force that almost reached Rank D, but he knew very well that he would not be able to completely clear a Fortress like this alone, even if it was a low rank Fortress among Rank E Fortresses, even then it was something that he would need at least 6 other people to help him with.
But just now he had seen a person clean this Fortress alone, and in no more than 30 minutes. Whenever he went to a Fortress, the agent downloaded himself a film to watch while the Blessed Ones stayed hours inside, but this time he had not even reached half of the film and the young man had already left the Fortress. And that was the scariest thing, that the one who did it was a young man with the appearance of no more than 20 years.
Surprised, the man took the tablet with the young man's data on it and checked it again. The young man was truly a peak Blessed E Rank. With the contribution he had just made in this Fortress, the only thing the man needed to do was to issue an approval that the young man would be moved up to Rank D immediately, which of course the man did.
Noah saw the change in the man's attitude as clearly as the difference between water and wine. The man changed his treatment for him from a "worried uncle" to someone who was now having to work under the eyes of a superior. The hands of the man trembling slightly as his gaze returned to Noah every 10 seconds were both of the main factors that made Noah realize this, which Noah sometimes answered with a polite smile.
This man had truly cared for him, so the least Noah could do was give the man back his kindness, especially at that moment when the man was so worried, thinking that he could have offended him, the "powerful Blessed", he wanted to try to reassure him.
Noah gave a much more detailed description than he normally did. In the Fortresses he participated in with the group, he just said what the group saw and what would be more believable, hiding how strong the flames were, what he could do, and whether he was truly desperate about a situation or not.
But this time it was different. Leaving aside Lilith's skill or Terrence's intelligence, Noah described that he had studied the internet a little bit about the hole patterns and was teleporting from hole to hole while burning the monsters inside.
The Boss fight he was able to tell in detail everything he did, without hiding anything, since everything was done with his skills, without the help of Lilith or Terrence. He just exaggerated a little when he said he was low on energy after killing the Boss and teleporting so much. After all, he had spent almost 30 minutes practically teleporting non-stop.
The man heard what Noah said and wrote down every word. From time to time he asked Noah to explain something again, but in another way, to see if it really made sense, but Noah's answers just confirmed everything completely.
A situation like this was the first time something like it had happened to the man. He knew that this Fortress raid would probably be the most important one that he managed this year, so he dedicated himself to getting the most details and not leaving anything incomplete in his report, since if he did that, his boss would definitely scold him.
After everything was resolved, Noah returned home happy with the new Blessed Rank D status, in addition to the $7,000 extra in his account, which he would already use a small part of to fuel his car, which consumed a lot of gas.
The Fortress was so quickly completed that it was not even lunchtime yet. People were walking in the street with tranquility: strolling through the shops, working, exercising. It was possible to see everything in the city Eyrin.
No matter where Noah was going, his car always called attention. At that time, the sunglasses that Robert forgot in the car had become one of Noah's favorite pieces, since he would not have to deal directly with the looks of people aimed at him.
Since he had arranged for Carlos meet him at his home only several hours from now, Noah decided to take some of his money and have lunch at a restaurant today. He was already starting to tire of his own cooking and began to feel the need to try other dishes in order to have more ideas and encourage his own creativity to develop later.
Of course, he wouldn't go to an expensive restaurant like High Sky, which had reservations that had been sold out for far too long. Noah's appetite was more drawn to cuisines typical of various different cultures.
Today he had decided to enjoy a good barbecue, and for that, nothing better than a good old outdoor grill. He just didn't expect to meet an old acquaintance at this steakhouse.
