Chapter 182: Problematic situation
Obviously no one had the courage to stop Noah from leaving after he turned and walked away from the disaster site. After all, trying to block the path of a Blessed Rank C was practically suicide. It would be just like placing a small stone on a train's trills, believing that it would be enough to stop the big monster in motion.
After arriving back at the hotel, Noah and Carlos spent the rest of the day and the next day discussing how they were going to work out the kinks in Noah's upcoming business. As the next day's match would be a little easier than their previous one, they didn't worry when it approached and practically won an easy victory, which guaranteed them a place in the upper bracket quarterfinals.
After winning so many matches, the teams that were in the Upper bracket had been very well received by the public. Even unknown teams without anyone special had managed to attract the sympathy of some of the spectators and seize a small fan base, and a team like Noah's was on another level when it came to developing a fan base.
Their playing style was really fun to watch. Especially Lucifer's teleports, coupled with the explosions of James' firecrackers, had made the game much more dynamic for people.
Watching Lucifer teleport and harvest lives so easily made the audience go crazy and scream a lot whenever he killed someone like that.
But there was something that worried Noah for the next game that he had to tell his team.
"I believe that in our next match we will play against a hacker," Noah said in a serious tone.
Initially, hearing what Noah said, his friends thought he was kidding, but because of the tone of voice he used to say that, they realized it was not a joke.
"You know that the number of hackers on Valorwatch is almost zero, right? Usually players who have tried to use some kind of illegal program were always banned when trying to log into their own account; they didn't even have to play to receive a penalty. Now we're in an official championship. Why do you think there's someone who's hacking?" Carlos asked, not understanding where this idea of Noah's came from.
"Didn't you see anything strange with DarkSword?" Noah asked in a serious tone.
Thinking about it, Kevin apparently had something to say. "Yes, watching his matches, I realized that he had a much faster reaction speed than normal, in addition to a strength and agility that do not match a generic Blessing."
Hearing this, the others also realized that this was truly happening.
"Exactly, he is not the only player without a Blessing that caught my attention in this regard. The Aces of two other teams show the same characteristics. If it were just one person like that, I would even believe that it was nothing big, but there are three people, three captains no less, three Aces, all without any Blessing but with strangely similar aptitude," Noah explained, "For that, I believe in one of two possibilities: Either these people are Blessed with weak Blessings and have found a way to use their Blessing and the generic Blessing simultaneously, or these people have found a way to use more than one generic Blessing at the same time. As much as the first possibility seems more plausibly, I still believe more in the second."
Unfortunately for the other players, no one could think of anything to say to refute Noah. Comparing the games of these three people, it really looked like they were dealing with hackers. Just as the match against the Dark Laugh team was very problematic, this next match would probably also be difficult.
"What are we going to do? Tell the organization of the event that we are playing against hackers?" Mateo asked worriedly.
Hearing his question, Noah gave a light laugh that left the other boys a little lost, not knowing why he was spinning like that, until he answered, "Of course not! We will not tell anyone!"
Hearing this, the others were clearly surprised.
"What do you mean, not tell anyone?"
"What if we lose?"
"Wouldn't it be safer to just tell the organization?"
"This is going to be our asset," James responded, understanding what Noah wanted to do.
Noah smiled even bigger, seeing the confusion of Kevin and Mateo, while Carlos had already started to understand as well, and so Noah said, "Exactly, if we win, we will be the team that beat the Hackers, and if we lose, we will only need to denounce the team and they will be eliminated, giving us the spot."
"This is to avoid problems!" Carlos exclaimed, finally understanding. "If we say that the team is cheating and it turns out that they did, we will not be the only ones affected, all the teams eliminated by them would also have to be rewarded, and the whole championship structure would be a mess. But even with them cheating we could win, nobody could dispute our victory. Even if the team was cheating, it would not affect us since we won anyway!" Carlos said excitedly.
Kevin and Mateo finally understood what they were trying to say, so this next match was even more important than they imagined.
They had determined to enter the match, knowing that they would battle against a team as troubling as Dark Laugh or even more than them.
But that did not discourage anyone. They knew the potential they had; they knew they had the best assassin in the league alongside them, and they had confidence in being able to cause maximum chaos for this assassin to do his job. So with a newfound determination, they connected to Valorwatch, ready to win this match.
