Madelyn had never thought the famous Kieran would ask to borrow only twenty from her.
Although she found it odd, she still granted Kieran’s request.
After rummaging through her branded handbag, she couldn’t find twenty. There were only bills of a
hundred.
She froze as the room went silent for a few seconds.
An awkward smile surfaced on Madelyn’s countenance as Kieran gazed at her. “Please wait for a
moment, Mr. Kieran.”
Hastily, she left to meet with the butler and asked him for a twenty bill before handing it to Kieran.
Kieran kept it in his pocket and said politely, “Thank you.”
Without delay, he left the residence and arrived at Yucca Delight as soon as possible.
However, when he did arrive, he stood at the entrance instead of stepping in. Inez is sharing a meal
with her fiancé right now. With what identity should I meet her? How can I reasonably chase her fiancé
away without making the situation awkward for everyone and then have a one-to-one conversation with
her?
After contemplating the matter for a while, he thought himself unskilled in the affairs of love.
Thus, he decided to ask Treyton for advice again.
However, when he patted his empty pocket, he recalled not bringing his phone to make himself seem
more pitiful. Great, now I can’t even call for help. Guess I’m on my own.
Meanwhile, in Salinsburgh, the Newtons were enjoying lunch in the dining room at noon.
The meal was particularly delicious because Craig had returned.
Jennifer wasn’t interested in the food. She kept staring at the door.
Craig had promised that their mother would join them for lunch, and she was looking forward to that.
Her excitement was so great that she gripped the hem of her dress and fidgeted with her fingers
restlessly.
Just as Craig was about to say something after noticing Jennifer’s anxiety, an elegant woman
appeared.
Everyone turned their line of sight to the visitor.
However, plenty of them lowered their heads after realizing who the woman was.
Jennifer stood up excitedly and watched the woman amble in gracefully.
The woman was Caylie Smith, Abraham’s second wife.
Abraham’s first wife passed away soon after the family’s eldest child was born due to an illness.
After that, Abraham married Caylie.
Over the years, she had conceived several children, including Craig, the second child, Lucas, the third,
Elise, the fifth whom they had lost, and Jasmine, the seventh and the youngest.
Although she had given birth to many children, her figure remained slender and graceful.
Jennifer’s eyes reddened as she gazed at Caylie. My eyes resemble her the most among my siblings.
Unable to suppress her excitement, she stretched her hand toward Caylie as the latter approached the
table.
However, Caylie ignored her and stepped toward Craig, asking in a displeased voice, “Why did you call
me here? You’re delaying my visit to the church.”
Craig flashed a faint smile and said gently, “Our long-lost sister has returned, Mom. She missed you.”
“Long-lost sister?” Caylie was slightly shocked. “Who?”
Jennifer stared at Caylie’s elegant back, her face pale.
Lucas, who was sitting across the dining table, lowered his head with a cold expression as if the matter
had nothing to do with him. Jasmine, on the other hand, snorted silently and smiled gloatingly.
Craig steadily lifted Caylie’s hand, turned her around, and looked at Jennifer. “She’s Elise, Mom. Your
daughter and the fifth child of the Newton family.”
There wasn’t any surprise or affection in Caylie’s eyes as she gave Jennifer a distant look as though
she was staring at a stranger.
Jennifer felt a little uncomfortable while being gazed at by Caylie. She bit her lip and greeted timidly,
“Mother.”
Immediately, Caylie smiled and nodded politely. “Nice to meet you. Make yourself at home in the
Newton residence and remember to listen to Craig.”
Jasmine couldn’t help but chuckle when she heard Caylie saying, “Nice to meet you.” It wasn’t until
Craig shot a serious glance at her that she coughed twice and held back her laughter.
Craig changed the topic. “Since everyone’s here, let’s eat. The food’s getting cold.”
He helped Caylie to her seat before delivering a fork to her hand. His filial attitude was apparent.
While accepting the fork, she inadvertently revealed a bit of her red wrist.
Jennifer was the only one observing Caylie in secret when everyone else was focused on eating.
Suspicions bubbled in her mind as she stared at the red marks on Caylie’s wrist.
Meanwhile, Kieran was still standing before Yucca Delight even though it was already lunchtime.
Frustration dominated his heart as he thought about what to do. Why didn’t I listen to Treyton and read
more tips on love before coming here? Also, I only have ten left. I’ll feel awkward if I enter a high-class
restaurant with this little money. What should I do?
In the end, he opted not to waste any more time and strolled into the building.
After he mentioned his name to a waiter, the latter summoned the manager.
Expeditiously, the manager descended from upstairs and welcomed Kieran respectfully.
A cold, arrogant look was present on Kieran’s countenance as he stuffed his hands into his pockets. I
didn’t expect Asher to be this restaurant’s largest shareholder. He has so many businesses across the
globe that even he probably doesn’t know how many companies in Fairlake are under his control. Not
that I’m complaining, though, since it’s working in my favor right now.
The manager grinned flatteringly. “I’m surprised you have time to visit a small place like Fairlake, Mr.
Kieran. Do you have a guest you wish to entertain today? I’ll arrange the best diamond-tier private
room for you.”
“No thanks. I’m here for someone. Which room is Mr. Campbell in?”
“Mr. Campbell?” The manager gave it some thought. “There’s only one Mr. Campbell here today. Are
you Mr. Percy Campbell’s friend?”
Of course, Kieran didn’t know or care what Inez’s fiancé’s name was. “The one engaged to the Mossey
family’s daughter.”
“Ah, yes, that’s the Mr. Campbell here. Please follow me, Mr. Kieran.”
Inside a platinum-tier private room, Percy was pouring Inez a glass of wine.
While he wasn’t handsome, especially because of his small eyes, he wasn’t ugly either. He wore a pair
of glasses and possessed a refined demeanor.
Inez lowered her head instead of looking at him. After he finished pouring the wine, she said coldly, “I
drove here on my own, so I can’t drink.”
His expression shifted slightly, but he still delivered the wineglass to her.
“We finally had a date together, Inez. Drink a little with me, will you? I’ll call for a replacement driver for
you later. Won’t you drink with me as a reward for how nicely I poured you a glass of wine? Please,
Inez,” pleaded Percy softly as he stared at her with anticipation.
Unable to stand his gaze, Inez laid her fork down and lifted the wineglass.
After Percy clinked his glass with hers, he gazed at her intently, waiting for her to drink.
Inez noticed the look in his eyes before knitting her eyebrows with suspicion. The instincts she honed
after spending years in the business industry warned her to be wary. “You keep asking me to drink. Did
you put something into the wine?”
