Torture
Triss quickly answered the call.
Gwendolyn exchanged pleasantries with her for a while, then quickly cut to the chase. “Triss, what has
Uncle David been busy with recently? I wish to meet with him. Is he available?”
Triss was puzzled. “Why do you want to meet with my dad all of a sudden, Gwendolyn? He’s not in
Salinsburgh. He went on a business trip, and I don’t know when he’ll be back. Perhaps in a week or
so.”
“Business trip?” Gwendolyn knitted her brows and pondered briefly. “When did he leave?”
“I think he left the night before yesterday.”
Gwendolyn chatted with Triss absentmindedly for a bit before hanging up the call. He left two days
ago? That seems to be when Yael confronted Cedrick because of Xander’s matters. Cedrick
questioned Grandpa that night but was angrily chased away by him. What a coincidence! Was it a
mere coincidence that he left Salinsburgh right after that incident that night, or did he know something
and decide to flee? David is not in Salinsburgh, Grandpa refuses to divulge any information, and Logan
doesn’t seem to know a thing. Meanwhile, Yael continues to tangle with Cedrick. It looks like there isn’t
any other way. We can only wait for Shadow Bell’s investigation to make progress and see if we can
find some traces from the evidence and material that can help Cedrick
The next day, inside the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s detention center, Xander was almost going
insane.
It had only been two days, but it felt like years to him. Every minute and second was torture.
He had gotten used to the stench of the toilet, which initially disgusted him. He even found it not as
smelly as before.
Raoul and his group didn’t treat him like a human being but only as a tool for venting.
They would go over and beat him if they suddenly felt annoyed.
If the food they had weren’t delicious, they would give Xander a beating.
Even when their backs were sore from sleeping as they leaned against the wall, they vented their
anger on Xander.
No matter what he said or did, as long as he was in that cell, his presence alone displeased them.
Any reason that might dissatisfy Raoul and his group could become a reason for Xander to get beaten
up.
His once expensive gold-rimmed glasses were now completely distorted and lacked their original luster
and luxury.
Xander was crouching in the corner of the toilet, holding his twisted gold-rimmed glasses. His high
degree of myopia kept him on edge, forcing him to prick up his ears and listen intently to the noise
outside. He always kept his guard up to sense if Raoul was going to find an excuse to hit him again.
His dignity had completely dissipated after he got severely beaten for two whole days.
Once Raoul started hitting him, Xander would immediately beg for mercy and apologize. He was even
willing to grovel on the floor, so long as Raoul would stop.
Being detained in the detention center of the Federal Bureau of Investigation had already let him
experience a hellish life worse than death. He couldn’t even imagine what it would be like to survive in
the high-security prison.
As he pondered that matter, the sound of the door being unlocked came from outside the cell.
The crisp sounds of iron locks and doors striking were particularly jarring in the hushed cell.
Xander immediately shuddered, hugged his knees, and lowered his head.
He didn’t know if the prison guard was sending their meals or water, but whenever that happened,
Raoul would definitely get irritated and vent his anger on Xander.
Xander was so scared that he trembled all over. He clenched his teeth and gulped the metallic taste of
blood in his oral cavity.
The sound of military boots striking the concrete floor echoed as the newcomer approached with each
steady step.
Just by listening to the reverberation, Xander could feel the newcomer’s mighty and oppressive aura.
Xander’s eyesight was too poor. Unless the things were placed very close to his eyes, everything
appeared blurred to him.
However, he didn’t even dare to look up as he tensely and quietly listened to the sound of the boots
getting closer and closer.
The next second, someone touched his arm, trying to pull him up forcibly.
Xander panicked and shouted desperately, “I’m sorry. It’s my fault. Don’t hit me, please! I can bark like
a dog. Woof, woof, woof!”
“Xander, look at me.” A man’s familiar voice sounded.
Xander was taken aback. He repeated hoarsely, “Don’t hit me. I know it’s my fault. I really didn’t do
anything!”
Cedrick didn’t bother to argue with him and simply ordered, “Take him away.”
Two police officers grabbed Xander’s arms and dragged him out of the cell.
Xander had no chance to resist. He had been starving in the cell for two days, not given even a sip of
water to drink, and tormented by Raoul to the point of being disoriented.
Cedrick ordered his men to drag Xander out of the cell and throw him in the corridor.
“Don’t hit me. I’m sorry…” Xander continued muttering the same two sentences, clutching his head with
blood-stained hands and shivering.
Expressionlessly, Cedrick instructed his subordinates to bind Xander’s wrists, forbidding him from
covering his head.
Then, he bent down slightly. Wearing a pair of expensive black leather gloves, Cedrick picked up a pair
of glasses and personally placed them on Xander’s face before grasping his chin, forcing him to raise
his head. “Xander, take a good look at me. Who am I?”
With the aid of the spectacles, Xander glanced up with all seriousness and saw Cedrick’s menacing
facial
expression.
“C-Cedrick! I’m sorry. I’ve really learned my lesson. I won’t repeat this mistake anymore. Please let me
go. I’ll get tormented to death if I stay here any longer. Those b*stards want to kill me!”
Cedrick loosened his grip on Xander’s chin. “You should thank me. If it weren’t for me, not only would.
you be beaten, you’d also be humiliated, becoming the most disgraceful descendant of the Jenson
family.”“
Xander’s only thought was to escape that place. No matter what Cedrick said, he would compliantly
nod in agreement and apologize fervently. “Yes, you’re right, Cedrick. I deserve this punishment. You
protected me, preventing me from being humiliated. I’m very grateful for your help. I’ll never oppose
you anymore. I’ll leave Salinsburgh and resume working at the subsidiary company in the small county.
I won’t come back except for Christmas. I won’t get in your way anymore. I just ask you to spare me
this time and not send me to the high-security prison.
He had never pleaded with Cedrick in that manner before. After being locked up for two days, having to
grovel and cry for mercy, Xander seemed to have genuinely learned his lesson following the torturous
experience.
Cedrick gazed at Xander, indifferently taking in his subservience and desperation with his dark,
emotionless eyes. “I can’t save you from the trouble you’ve caused this time. What happens next will
have to depend on your performance.”
Xander sensed a glimmer of hope in his cousin’s words. “All right, Cedrick. I’ll do whatever you ask.”
Cedrick scoffed, “Don’t worry. I won’t make things difficult for you.”
With that, he signaled the police officers with his eyes, and they promptly stepped forward to lift Xander
up again.
Xander had been beaten badly. Every part of his body ached terribly.
However, as long as Cedrick was inclined to let him leave that place, he would grit his teeth and endure
the pain no matter how unbearable it was.
His vision turned blurred again after the glasses were removed.
Xander could only let himself be carried away in that state of extreme insecurity.
They didn’t walk for long, just the distance from one cell to another nearby.
When Xander heard the sound of the lock opening, he recoiled in resistance and despair.
He thought Cedrick was going to transfer him from one hellhole to another, so he shrieked in distress, “I
won’t go in! I won’t! I don’t want to!”
The officers dragged him inward by force and tossed him on the ground.
All his wounds throbbed from the fall, causing him to yelp in anguish. The next second, he sensed
someone rushing forward to hug him. “Xander! How did you get hurt like this? Did he have his men
torture you?”
Xander frantically avoided the embrace. The relentless beatings from the past few days had made him
lose his rationality. He didn’t recognize the familiar voice. He instinctively covered his head, curled up
on the floor, and begged for mercy, “I’m sorry. Don’t hit me. I was wrong…”
Heart-wrenching pain filled Yael’s chest as he watched his son behave in that state of near madness.
His precious son had been prideful for many years. Yet, after Cedrick detained him for two days in the
Federal Bureau of Investigation’s detention center, he was tormented into that wretched state, not
recognizing even his own father.
Yael looked up furiously and glowered at Cedrick, who was leaning against the doorframe.
“How could you do this? What exactly have you done to him?”
Cedrick leaned against the side of the door casually. “I didn’t expect his mental resilience to be weaker
than I imagined. Uncle Yael, you’ve pampered him far too well all these years. He had never
experienced any danger, so he couldn’t bear this suffering. Think carefully about what I told you
yesterday, Uncle Yael. I hope you can take the initiative to contact the police by today and come clean
to me. Otherwise, at ten o’clock at night, I’ll have my men send Xander back to the cell he stayed in
previously.”
Xander, who was in the middle of a mental breakdown, seemed to have understood what Cedrick
meant. He shook his head frantically. “I don’t want to! I won’t go back! I won’t go back there ever again!
That’s a living hell! I’ll die in there!”
