You Need to Learn to Control Your Emotions
“When can I fully recover?” That was Alec’s main concern because he wanted to meet with Jenny.
Blake probably read his mind and sat across from him with a smile. “The first thing you need to do is to
learn self-control. You mentioned that you couldn’t stop yourself from wanting to keep Jenny by your
side and that you couldn’t stand the sight of men around her. These are symptoms of a mental health
disorder. Your mental health issue did not surface over a few days. They are the culmination of poor
mental health over the years. A fast recovery is rather impossible.”
Alec frowned upon hearing her professional opinion. He knew his condition was severe, but he wanted
the answer to another pressing question.”
Based on what you said just now, I can’t meet Jenny before I fully recover. Is that right?” He would
rather give up on the treatment if that were the case. The reason he attended therapy in the first place
was so that he could be with Jenny. If he was forced to give up on meeting her because of it, it’d be
against his goal.
Blake shook her head and explained, “If you want to meet her, you can go ahead. My advice is not to
meet with her too frequently. That won’t help with your treatment. Right now, you need to learn to
control your emotions. You cannot be a slave to it. If you succeed, I’d consider that a recovery.”
Once he received a green light from Blake to meet with Jenny, he beamed and ignored the rest of her
advice. Standing up, he was ready to leave. He needed to meet Jenny-he couldn’t wait anymore.
Blake was speechless at his behavior. “Haven’t I told you to control yourself?
Why do I feel like you utterly lack self-control?”
“I think you need to focus on getting to the roots of my fear of the dark, not the other issues.” Alec
believed that the root of all his mental health issues was that his mother had passed away before his
eyes, contributing to his longtime fear of the dark. He didn’t think that Jenny played a role in it at all.
“Yes. Your fear of the dark is the root of all problems. You can only face the dark once we untangle your
emotions.” She didn’t deny his claim. As a psychologist, she was well aware of the reason behind his
emotional turmoil. However, the situation had grown complex, and she couldn’t solve his mental health
issues just by addressing his childhood trauma.
Alec didn’t plan to discuss more as he walked to the door. “Your treatment is very effective. My
assistant will transfer the payment to you.”
With that, he left the clinic. Blake didn’t stop him. She merely stared at him with questions in her head.
She wondered about the identity of the woman with whom Alec was deeply in love. There was another
possibility, though- Alec could have just been a special case.
Alec wasn’t interested in Blake’s opinions about him. After exiting the clinic, he drove to Walter Castle
and parked his car there. Then, he called Jenny and waited for a while before she picked up. He almost
thought she’d ignore his call.
“Jenny,” he called out to her once the call was connected.
Jenny experienced an odd feeling upon hearing his voice. “It’s late. What’s the matter?”
In the past few days, Alec had not once visited her at the hospital or called her after learning she was
injured in an incident. She was disappointed in him, and her frustration was reflected in her tone.
