Don’t You Think It’s Too Late?
Alec had wanted to say more, but the passion in his heart quickly dissipated upon hearing how cold
Jenny was to him. Still, he didn’t hang up immediately.
’How have you been?” he asked.
“Don’t you think it’s too late to ask me that, Alec?” Jenny huffed. Alec’s behavior confused her. It had
been days without hearing from him.
Alec knew he was at fault. He had planned to meet with Jenny that day after their call. He never
expected Dr. Watkins to tell him not to see her, for him to learn to control himself. Which was why he
never went to her. But that didn’t mean he didn’t care about her. He had still gone to the hospital to
check on her, only leaving after seeing that she was okay.
On the other end of the call, Jenny was getting even more upset now that he had gone silent. “What?
Cat got your tongue? When did you learn how to keepyour mouth shut?”
“I’m sorry,” Alec said solemnly. “I’ve been preoccupied with some business. That’s why I didn’t come to
see you.”
“Oh.” Preoccupied couldn’t cut it. He should’ve at least called her to check up on her, granted he was
busy dealing with the Glass family.
“I’m right outside Walter Castle. Do you…want to come out for a bit?” Alec asked gingerly.
As much as Jenny wanted to refuse, she couldn’t. She had been worried about him these past few
days, especially knowing now that the Glass family had turned their scopes on him.
Just as Alec was about to lose hope, Jenny said, “Alright. I’ll be right down.” The call ended, leaving
him to stare incredulously at it. “What did Jenny say?
She’d be right down? I didn’t hear her wrong, right?” he thought.
A minute later, Jenny appeared by the front gate. She stormed over to Alec, whowas still blanking out.
Okay, so he did hear her right. “Thank you for coming out to see me, Jenny.”
“Don’t try to change my mind. I’m not forgiving you that easily.” Jenny was still upset.
“I know. It’s my fault.” Alec hung his head disparagingly. “I’m sorry.” Now Jenny really didn’t know what
to say. She swallowed what she would have said had she still been fuming and sighed. “Is that all you
called me out here for?”
“Yeah. And to see you. I’m glad to see that you’re okay.’ Idiot, Jenny thought. “Aren’t you even gonna
take me out for supper?
Alec froze momentarily before a smile painted his face. “Of course, of course, I will.’ He went to open
his car door for Jenny. “My treat.”
After the two left, a figure walked out from behind the front gate. It was Jolene.
“What a whore. Mr. Windsor in one palm and her ex-husband in the other,’ she sneered. “I need to let
Mr. Windsor know about this immediately.”
