Chapter 72 - Aren’t you and I dating online?

Edited by xiin and Noks
Yu Yan turned aside and said, “Come in first ba.”
Lu Xiuhe entered the room, opened a bottle of mineral water, and guzzled it down in one big gulp.
Yu Yan asked, “What happened to your previous coat?”
Their clothes had been rented. They would have to pay if the clothes were damaged in any way or lost. It wasn’t that they couldn’t afford it, but there was no need to waste that kind of money.
“……Fuck.” Lu Xiuhe thumped his chest and stamped his feet. “I forgot to get it back.”
“Where is it?”
It was in that fucking liar’s car!
The more he thought about it, the more angry he became, but he couldn’t vent his anger onto Yu Yan, so he removed the coat on his shoulders with a swish and viciously threw it on the ground.
The logo on the collar of the coat was exposed. Lu Xiuhe took a casual look at it. Fuck, it was even from a fucking big name brand.
So he flatly let the coat lie on the ground for two minutes before picking it up again in silence.
Yu Yan observed Lu Xiuhe’s current attitude and realized that it didn’t seem like he had met with a friend at all; it was much more like he had come back after having fought an enemy.
His cellphone dinged, and it was a push notification from an app with a reminder of tomorrow’s flight.
Only after seeing this notification did he also remember that he would have to go back tomorrow.
“Xiao Yan, I feel like I’m really too stupid.” Lu Xiuhe had calmed down a bit in the last five minutes.
But it turned out that this calming down was just a joke. He was probably going to have to slowly recover from the shock he had suffered throughout the second half of his life.
Yu Yan had been just about to send a message to Yi Chen. However, after seeing that Lu Xiuhe was in a bit of a better mood, he could only send an emoticon across first, and then ask, “What’s the matter? By the way… I’m flying back tomorrow morning, do you want to go back together?”
“Yes.” Lu Xiuhe fell onto the sofa with an expression of lovelessness on his face. “I will never come back to Jincheng for the rest of my life; I can’t stay in this city full of lies for another moment. Xiao Yan, how about you change your flight ba. We’ll leave tonight, and go far, far away.”
Yu Yan refused very quickly, “I won’t.”
Lu Xiuhe replied, “Fine ba… I was just casually saying that. I’m also not willing to spend money to change the flight.”
Yu Yan’s face was full of doubts. “But didn’t you come here just to see your girlfriend? You haven’t even seen her, and you’re going back?”
Lu Xiuhe’s face now carried a wooden expression. “I saw them.”
“?” That was when Yu Yan just remembered that as Lu Xiuhe had entered the room, he seemed to have been ranting something about online dating. “When did you see them?”
“Just now.”
“…that friend you talked about, that was actually them?”
“En.”
Seeing Lu Xiuhe’s face go deathly still, Yu Yan hesitated for a moment before asking, “She didn’t look the way you imagined?”
How should he answer that?
After thinking for a long time, Lu Xiuhe said sincerely, “No, they looked… beyond my imagination.”
Face-to-face meetings were a hurdle; only a few couples managed to cross such a hurdle, and it was common for relationships to die the moment they were exposed to the light of day. However, judging from how Lu Xiuhe said this, it seemed that he was obviously satisfied with the appearance of this woman.
With the kind of personalities they had, they should have already gotten used to interacting with each other normally. It wasn’t likely that they would have started quarreling during their very first meeting.
Yu Yan didn’t understand. “Then, isn’t that good?”
“The problem is…” Lu Xiuhe’s expression was complicated as he spoke, “Is…”
If the average person heard him talk this way, they would probably be terribly nervous about the words that were to come next.
However, at this time, Yu Yan’s cell phone lit up.
1: Just arrived, Little Fool has been sent back home.
Yu Yan sat to the side with his cellphone in his hand while listening to Lu Xiuhe struggle with “Is” for a long time.
Yu Yan: Then, when you’re at work, who takes care of it?
1: The auntie will feed it.
“Is…is…is that he’s a fucking man.”
Yu Yan was tapping on the keyboard, so absently said, “Oh.”
For a while, he kept typing on his cellphone’s keyboard.
Then his head swished up——
Lu Xiuhe had on an expression of having eaten X, and seemed to have given up all hope as he repeated, “Yes, he’s a fucking man! Fuck me, he’s even taller than Laozi, wears completely girly clothes, and his voice is so harsh it makes people’s hair stand on end! It’s no wonder that he didn’t want to use a voice transformer to go through the motions with me, I dare say that even a voice transformer wouldn’t be able to save him! Just this-just this stupid coat is even bigger than my coat, it’s uncomfortable no matter how I wear it, ahhhhhhh!!!”
By the time he finished talking, he was so angry that he’d picked up the innocent coat and hammered it against the sofa several times.
Yu Yan was shocked: “…”
“I’m never going to do online dating for the rest of my life, setting aside all of this, online dating can go to fucking hell.” The more Lu Xiuhe talked, the more indignant and sad he became. By the end of his tirade, he began to sing, “Oh, who can fucking guess if QQ love is real or fake?”
Yu Yan wanted to comfort him, but this situation was too thorny.
He had a question. “…then how did you meet him?”
If Lu Xiuhe’s online partner was really a man, then naturally he would have never taken the initiative to ask for a meeting. And both of them had just been at the gala, where he had seen Lu Xiuhe sitting in his seat with his own eyes.
Speaking of this, Lu Xiuhe’s old face suddenly turned red. He faltered for a long time before he said, “Didn’t you see all of it?”
Yu Yan was confused. “What did I see?”
“In the bathr…” Lu Xiuhe paused. “You didn’t see anything?”
Yu Yan replied, “No.”
Thinking of the other party’s identity, Lu Xiuhe decided that it was probably not suitable to make a big fuss and let everyone know about it.
In fact, the moment he had discovered the truth, he had earnestly wished to run to a media company with a big loudspeaker to urge them to go downstairs and work overtime. That way, he would force the dog to make the headlines tomorrow, and then they could all just die together.
But after that moment of anger had passed, he couldn’t quite bear to do so.
”Just, anyway, that’s how I saw him.”
Lu Xiuhe was done making a fuss, and his whole person wilted. “No way, I thought of him as a wife, and he actually wants to act gay with me? I’m finished, I don’t even want to date for the rest of my life. I’m in my twenties, and I’m already so tired.”
Yu Yan comforted him. “It’s okay, if men won’t do, then that means that you like women ah.”
“Right.” Lu Xiuhe picked up his cellphone. “What you said is very reasonable. I got several WeChat accounts from female anchors earlier, I’ll go chat and bond with them a bit.”
?
Yu Yan asked, “You have an online partner, and you still went to ask female anchors for their WeChat?”
“That was different, I didn’t want their WeChats to get in touch with them or anything.” Lu Xiuhe said, “I just wanted to show off to those little bastards in the Internet cafe later… Xiao Yan, do you want any? I’ll give you two?”
Yu Yan shook his head. “No.”
“Oh, I forgot. Aren’t you also dating someone online?”
…you still remember something like that from such a long time ago.
Yu Yan was about to speak when Lu Xiuhe put on an expression that made him look like an experienced person.
“Online dating has risks, so caution is required. Xiao Yan, I’m not deliberately targeting you, but look at me, I’m the very lesson of its bloody outcome. Have you ever spoken to her?”
Yu Yan thought about it and said, “Yes.”
“That’s also of no use, there are so many loli voice transformers now.” Lu Xiuhe asked again, “You haven’t had a video call ba?”
“We’ve had.”
“Are you sure it wasn’t someone that they just found to replace themselves instead?”
“Sure.”
Lu Xiuhe set aside his preaching expression, and his eyes filled with envy instead. After a while, he sincerely expressed his emotions, “…that’s great.”

When Yi Chen returned home, he found that the lights in the interior of the house were all lit up and a black car was parked outside.
He parked and got out, and the window on the driver’s side of the other parked car rolled down. The driver waiting in the driver’s seat said to him, “Mr. Yi, you’re back, hurry in ba. Mrs. Yi has been waiting for you for a long time.”
Yi Chen let out an “en” and said, “Thanks.”
When he entered the house, Mother Yi was sitting on the sofa playing with the cat.
“You’re back.” Mother Yi put the cat down and quickly stepped forward with a slight frown. “Didn’t I say that even though your injury has just healed up, you shouldn’t rush back to work like this? The company won’t collapse if you’re not there for a few months.”
“It’s the end of the year, I can’t not be there.” Yi Chen picked up the cat and petted it twice. “Why are you here?”
“I came to see you and cooked some soup for you…” After Mother Yi finished saying this, she realized that something was off.
Her always-serious-in-speech-and-manner son looked a lot warmer tonight, and his eyes even carried traces of tenderness that he hadn’t been able to hide away yet.
She asked in surprise, “What happened, what good thing happened?”
Yi Chen, holding the cat in one hand and taking out his cellphone with the other, didn’t deny it. “Something good did happen.”
“Tell mom about it?”
Seeing a string of “Ahhhhhh” and “I’ll tell you later” from the other side, Yi Chen laughed and put the cat back on the sofa. “Not yet. Where’s the soup?”
Mother Yi was immediately diverted from the most important point. She went into the kitchen and brought out a bowl of hot soup.
“I was afraid it would go cold, so I put it in the oven.”
Only after Yi Chen had taken a few sips of the soup did Mother Yi state her purpose of coming here today.
“Xiao Chen, there will be a large-scale painting exhibition happening abroad in two days. It’s going to be for a week, and your dad has already booked the tickets for it.” Mother Yi paused before continuing, “There also happens to be a ballet competition being held in early December there, and the organizers invited me to be a judge.”
Yi Chen nodded. “Go ba.”
“Then, will you be okay by yourself?” Mother Yi asked, “In fact, I came here to ask you… Would you like to go with us? We can find someone to manage the company, or even ask your uncle to help us watch over it first. See, you haven’t even completely recovered from your injury, and it’s really not suitable for you to be doing high-intensity work right now. You know that your dad and I don’t have any high material requirements. We know that you also…”
“I’m not a child.” Yi Chen put down his spoon and interrupted her, “You guys have a good time.”
Mother Yi was once again stopped from saying what she wanted to say.
After a while, she sighed heavily, “Okay ba.”
After seeing his mother off, Yi Chen closed the door, and a familiar feeling of fatigue crept up again.
This kind of feeling had just emerged in his body when his cell phone rang. It had rung several times in Mother Yi’s presence as well, but because he had been talking to her, he hadn’t had the time to take a look.
Little Anchor: Sorry, I just went to deal with something.
Little Anchor: [panic] [panic] [panic]
Little Anchor: Are you busy?
That cold tired feeling disappeared in a flash. Yi Chen went to the living room, held the cat in his arms, and directly video-called Yu Yan.
It took more than ten seconds for the other side to pick up the call. It was dark on that side, and he only heard Yu Yan say, “Wait a minute…”
Then there came the sound of a door closing, and the light was turned on, but the angle the cellphone was being held at was very tricky, for only Yu Yan’s purplish-red tie was in view of the video camera.
Yu Yan went out to the balcony, and finally couldn’t help it.
“Yi Chen…” He had held his laughter in for so long that it hurt, and only now could he finally laugh out loud. “My friend seems to have been angered to the extent that he’s now developed some issues.”
Although he didn’t know what had happened, seeing him laughing so happily, the corner of Yi Chen’s mouth also unconsciously drew up. “What’s the matter?”
Yu Yan told him about it.
“Then his online partner just called… and said he was a clothes thief. They’re still cursing each other out on the phone.” When he finished, Yu Yan shook his head. “No, it seems that Lu Xiuhe is just unilaterally cursing him out.”
“Online dating as a method of dating was originally unreasonable and also unreliable. It’s too risky,” said Yi Chen.
Yu Yan was stunned, and his smile faltered a bit, but he quickly changed the topic. “…it’s not that, it’s just that Lu Xiuhe’s luck wasn’t so good. There are still a lot of people who manage to successfully date online.”
Yi Chen shook his head. “It’s a long distance relationship where you can’t see them, can’t touch them, you’re far away, and your emotions are only maintained by playing games and through a few words. How long can it last?”
“As long as two people like each other, isn’t that enough ma…”
“Separated by a screen, what like or not like, it can all be faked.”
Yu Yan: “…”
Yi Chen rubbed the cat. “Why aren’t you talking?”
Most of Yu Yan’s smile had disappeared by now, and after a short pause, he asked, “Are you going back on what you said?”
Yi Chen asked, “What?”
Yu Yan asked, “Aren’t you and I dating online?”
Yi Chen: “?”
Yu Yan said, “My return flight to Manyang is for tomorrow.”
—Then they would be the ones in a long distance relationship, where they couldn’t see each other, couldn’t touch each other, and would have to be far away from each other.
They could only use games and some words to maintain their emotions for each other in this manner.
“……”
Yi Chen’s expression gradually turned more imposing, and Little Fool’s fur had been reverse-combed by its owner to the extent that he looked like the lion king.

The author has something to say:
Online dating novices starting out, pay attention to avoid.
