Chapter 976: The Big Fat Wedding (7)
Papa An couldn’t hold back his tears anymore.
“Good… good…” He repeated that word several times. Sheng Yize then took An Xiaxia’s hand and led her onto the stage.
The crowd went silent and everyone turned to look at them expectantly.
The fatherly priest looked at them, then announced in a clear, loud voice, “The wedding ceremony has now begun.
“Do you, Mr. Sheng, take the bride to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do you part…”
Sheng Yize smiled. “I do.”
“Do you, Miss An, take the bridegroom to be your lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do you part…”
An Xiaxia bit her lip. They already had their marriage certificate, but somehow, she was still extremely excited.
Without knowing it, she looked up at Sheng Yize, and saw the warm sunlight pouring down on his shoulders, making him look bright and splendid.
She then looked at his dark eyebrows, black eyes, and thin lips — every feature was so unbelievably perfect on his face.
So many memories rushed back to her and she was overwhelmed by a wave of emotion. Everything was then concluded with a quiet yet firm “I do.”
The priest then announced, “I now pronounce you man and wife! May god be with you!”
Thunderous applause rang out, which didn’t stop for a very long time.
“Kiss her!” someone yelled. The others then joined in, hooting, “That’s right! Kiss her!”
Sheng Yize chuckled, lifted An Xiaxia’s white veil, and kissed her gently on her lips.
An Xiaxia’s eyelashes fluttered and her cheeks went very red.
It was no more than a peck.
“I love you,” Sheng Yize leaned over and whispered in An Xiaxia’s ears.
An Xiaxia blushed even more.
“Thank you…” An Xiaxia replied with something completely random.
Sheng Yize couldn’t help but chuckle. “Shouldn’t that be ‘I love you, too’?”
“Hm…” An Xiaxia was so flustered that she didn’t know where to put her hands. “I – I…”
“Dummy.” Sheng Yize looked delighted. “Go get changed. We’ll be going round the tables to do the toasts later.”
After changing into a less ostentatious dress, she went with Sheng Yize to do the toasts.
There were so many guests, so Sheng Yize only visited their closest family members and friends.
They went to the Sheng family’s table first.
Grandma Sheng smiled. “Little Xiaxia, I’m waiting for your tea.”
An Xiaxia served the tea as told. Aside from a red packet, Grandma Sheng also took off a jade bracelet from her wrist. “This is a family heirloom of the Sheng family. Take good care of it!”
“Thank you, Grandma.”
Sheng Qingyi was also here today. His health had deteriorated significantly after the stroke, and he was no longer the imposing man he used to be.
Smiling awkwardly, he also gave An Xiaxia a red packet.
An Xiaxia blinked and was going to address him as “dad” when Sheng Yize interjected.
“Let’s go do a toast with Brother An.”
An Xiaxia couldn’t do anything to break down the barrier between father and son. She gave Sheng Qingyi an embarrassed smile, then left with Sheng Yize.
Sheng Qingyi sighed, his face full of regret.
On the other side at the An family’s table.
An Yibei calmly toasted them. “Congratulations.”
Sheng Yize met his gaze. Neither man would be the first to look away.
