Jing Yichen followed Shangguan Ning, out to the lobby. They were both waiting for the elevator to arrive. Just then, the facility manager of the building came up to Ning and said, “Miss, your neighbour’s pipe has been fixed. It was the crux of the leakage on the floor below. I assure you that this incident will not be repeated. Sorry to have wasted your time.”
Shangguan Ning smiled and said politely, “It’s fine! All that matters is that the water leakage issue has been sorted. Thank you!”
After the facility manager left, Jing Yichen turned to her with raised eyebrows and asked “So you didn’t leave home?”
Shangguan Ning was about to giggle but suppressed the urge. She said indifferently, “Why would I leave when I own such a lavish and comfortable apartment?”
Jing Yichen let out a sigh of relief, secure with the fact that Ning didn’t intend to leave him.
He took Shangguan Ning’s delicate hands into his own.
He said affectionately,”Looks like it was a misunderstanding. What a pity that I lost an apartment because of it. Now, tell me, how will you make it up to me?”
Shangguan Ning let him hold her hand.
His hands were warm and comfortable.
He could have pushed his luck at this moment to see how far she would let him go but she snubbed him almost immediately when she said, “Don’t worry, I am a very clear-minded woman who can tell right from wrong.”
They got into the car and were driven to their home. When they returned to their apartment in Landscape Compound, Shangguan Ning turned to him and said. “I left my keys at home. Where’s your set?”
What a careless woman!
Jing Yichen let out a sigh as he handed his own key to her.
Shangguan Ning opened the door, walked into the apartment and was about to slam the door shut before Jing Yichen could come in. As he looked at her in disbelief, she continued,
“Why do you want to come inside? This is my home. Go away now, and don’t come back!” She dangled the keys in her hand, on purpose. “I got my set of keys now, thank you.”
Jing Yichen was caught off guard. He was speechless. He had just transferred the ownership of the apartment to her and now she had changed her mind and refused to let him enter his house.
He had just taken an axe to his own leg.
He waited outside for a few moments before pleading to Ning, “I am your husband. Your home is my home. Please be kind and let me in.”
Shangguan Ning only kept a tiny crack open at the door. She looked at him through it and asked, “Oh really? Are you sure you’re married? And you have a wife? I think you have it all wrong, because if my memory serves me well, I saw a beautiful lady asking for you, at the company today. She had long black hair and wouldn’t stop smiling. She said she was your fiancée!”
Jing Yichen was genuinely startled hearing this. He blurted out, confused, “What fiancée?”
“Whom should I ask for an answer to this question, if you don’t know the answer? Who else would know about your fiancée? To be fair, though, she does look very pretty, and everyone in the company, including me, was awestruck by her beauty. You two would look cute together!”
Shanguan Ning said bitterly.
It started off as a joke, but Jing Yichen could sense that things had turned serious.
Shangguan Ning couldn’t keep calm anymore. She tucked her hair behind and ear and said, “Go and find your fiancée. I’m going to bed now.”
She banged the door closed without hesitation.
She was afraid that if she saw Jing Yichen any longer, she would definitely end up letting him in. He looked so tired and she knew he needed the rest.
Standing outside his house, Jing Yichen almost broke his nose, when she slammed the door on him. He finally understood why Shangguan Ning had been so bitter all day.
He knew that Tang Yun had visited Jingsheng and even asked for him, because Lu Qing called him and asked him for further instructions.
Lu Qing had only mentioned about Tang Yun wanting to visit Jing Yichen’s office. He hadn’t said anything about her claiming to be Yichen’s fiancée! Maybe Lu Qing didn’t think it necessary to tell him about it.
Jing Yichen hadn’t let Tang Yun in, because this was his place of work. He was never one to mix his private and professional life. That wasn’t the right place or time to have a conversation with Tang Yun.
Shangguan Ning was the only exception to this rule.
Jin Yich knew that he couldn’t put off meeting Tang Yun, for much longer. She had claimed that she was his fiancée. He felt he owed his staff an explanation. He would have to have an earnest conversation with her someday.
Jing Yichen had no fiancée. He only loved one woman, whom he married.
The reason why Shangguan Ning cut and dyed her hair, was clear to him now. It was because of Tang Yun.
He smiled. He wasn’t annoyed with his wife anymore.
For him, the fact that Shangguan Ning was jealous, was something worth cheering for.
As for being locked outside the door, getting inside the house was cakewalk.
He walked to the other end of the corridor, stretched out his finger and let his finger stay on a fingerprint sensor, hidden from the public eye. The wall, which earlier had no trace of a crack, opened wide, like a door.
Jing Yichen walked in.
After Shangguan Ning locked out her husband, the President, she had been restless. She kept peeking through the peephole to see if he was still there, when someone patted her on her back.
Shangguan Ning jerked in shock. She turned around and saw the man who was supposed to be outside the door, standing just behind her.
She thought he was a mirage.
She had been guarding at the door all the time and hadn’t opened it even once. How did this man get in?
Seeing her look astonished, Jing Yichen carried her in his arms and walked into their bedroom.
Shangguan Ning let out a moan in protest but also wrapped her arms around his neck, subconsciously.
“You are so concerned about me getting tired while standing outside, but somehow you still manage to mask your true feelings by an indifferent attitude. You are such a bad actress, my love.”
“I am not concerned…” Shangguan Ning was too stubborn to admit the truth.
Jing Yichen lowered his head and sealed her lips with a kiss. Seeing her blush, he put her down onto the bed.
Standing by the bedside, he unbuttoned his shirt as he said, “We are husband and wife and we even have a certificate to prove it. Although you were seriously ill at that time, you still approved the decision to get married. We were registered at the Civil Affairs Office and the marriage certificate is authentic. I even proposed to you, and you accepted!”
“Therefore… I don’t have any fiancée. What I have is a wife, which is you. You understand that, don’t you. If you dare to lock your husband outside the door next time, because of your jealousy, please don’t blame me for doing what a husband should do.”
“And yes, your hairstyle looks good. I like it. Do whatever you want in the future with your hair, but don’t dye it. Those chemicals aren’t good for health and they can be harmful to our children.”
“So, do you think we’ll be blessed with a boy or a girl, after tonight? Or maybe a pair of twins, with one of each?”
Shangguan Ning’s face flushed like a peach hearing him say all this.
He stripped off his shirt and trousers, exposing his muscular chest. She could only admire his surfboard abs and strong legs as he climbed into the bed, with only a pair of underpants on him. She knew it was futile to struggle so she buried her own head under the blanket completely.
