Chapter 603: Mind Reading

Bai Muchuan looked at her and walked to the poolside. He explained as he watched the mist rising in the night. “Firstly, if the plump man wanted to kill Xu Siqi, he wouldn’t try to mingle with her. People who lust after beauties tend to be sheep in wolf’s clothing. Secondly, there aren’t any surveillance cameras installed in the changing rooms. The changing rooms are the closest to the swimming pool. It is also the most convenient spot for the murderer to take out its target…”
“Are there more?”
“Yup.” Bai Muchuan glanced at her. “The wall outside the female changing room has some oil stains.”
Eh?
Xiang Wan thought about Bai Muchuan checking out the wall earlier and was surprised.
“You’re so thorough!”
“There’s also a fourth point. You want to hear it?”
“…” Xiang Wan chuckled. “Of course.”
“It’s my profound mind reading technique. It’s similar to you writing your profiling analysis.” Someone complimented himself without qualms. “When I announced to everyone in the hall that I already know who the murderer was and grouped them up, did you happen to notice his expression?”
Xiang Wan furrowed her eyebrows. “During that time, well, I only noticed that many people seemed to be feeling uneasy.”
In that kind of situation, it was only normal to be uncomfortable.
A corner of Bai Muchuan’s lips quirked upwards. “He was not uneasy. Rather, he was trying his best to conceal his uneasiness.”
Mm? Xiang Wan mulled over it for a moment.
Indeed, there was quite a big difference between feeling uneasy and trying to conceal the uneasiness.
Xiang Wan smiled in admiration. “There are so many people in the hall, yet you could spot him, and what he was trying to conceal.”
Bai Muchuan raised his eyebrows. “Learn it well.”
“Yes! Your Excellency, thank you for teaching me.”
“Aye!” Bai Muchuan showed a proud smirk. “If not for the fact that all crimes must be solved with clear facts and sufficient evidence, just from my personal experience alone, I would have been able to discern the prime suspect nine out of ten times.”
“…Oh, look at you! I’ll add a drumstick for you tonight.” Xiang Wan couldn’t help but prop her forehead. “I think Captain Cheng seems to want to talk to you.”
When Quan Shaoteng led the suspect to the pool, Cheng Zheng also followed along.
The Forensic Team needed to ascertain the traces at the first location.
They also had a lot of equipment that were more accurate than Bai Muchuan’s eyes. It could accurately verify the traces and determine who was telling the truth.
The results proved that Bai Muchuan was right. The small detail that he had noticed solved the crime.
The murderer didn’t get in the villa by climbing over the wall. He had climbed into the changing room via the roof at the back of the changing room which was near the wall.
Previously, the police officer had said that nobody left the villa. There were only people coming in but not out.
The murderer didn’t go out nor enter. He made his way from the kitchen, then the backyard and climbed to the back of the changing room.
The changing room was lavishly built. One could bathe and even have their sauna done there. In order to make the changing room look more aesthetically pleasing, the roof was made with eaves which was a perfect spot for the murderer to hide himself. He hid himself high up in the changing room at night, he could see the people playing in the swimming pool without being noticed at all.
Cheng Zheng had identified that the oil stains on the wall, the roof and the eaves had come from his work uniform. As there was a party, all kitchen personnel had started to prepare for the party in the morning. Feng Yingjun also helped out. He didn’t realize that the oil stains on his work clothes would actually become proof of him committing a crime.
With all these findings, Feng Yingjin didn’t continue denying and admitted to his crime right at that spot.
The speed of solving this homicide case was the fastest for the team in the New Year.
Bai Muchuan hence solved yet another case in his track record.
The crowd congratulated him on solving the case. Their words and mannerisms were full of respect for him.
He was, however, someone who didn’t want to be in the limelight. He behaved differently when he was talking about his achievements earlier in the hall. “Those words that I said earlier were just for the sake of solving the case. All of you need not take them seriously. Please take it that you’ve never heard that and don’t know me at all—”
“…”
The crowd started to giggle as they tried to hold their laughter.
Bai Muchuan shot another cold glance at the crowd. “All of you heard me clearly?”
“Sherlock Holmes of the East, we’ve heard you.”
“…”
Feng Yingjun was not a smart murderer.
After he killed Xu Siqi, he continued to stay at the villa. It was not that he was bold and fearless. It was simply because he couldn’t get out of the villa anymore. The moment when they discovered the corpse, the police requested Zhang Houfa to order his security guards to prevent anyone from leaving the villa until the police arrived. Hence, all of these factors contributed to the police being able to apprehend the murderer in such a short period of time.
Feng Yingjun was indeed an honest murderer.
After they brought him back for interrogation, they need not adopt any interrogation technique as he cooperated and gave an account of why he committed the crime.
It was a melodramatic homicide case. It was also the type of murder case that was most likely to cause social unrest. Feng Yingjun liked Xu Siqi and had been treated like a spare by her for many years.
He watched her falling in and out of love.
He watched how she climbed her way up and how she attended to the guests like a host.
He couldn’t take it anymore and ended her life where she would crumble back to being dust.
Xu Siqi majored in acting and graduated from a certain film academy. Prior to working as Xie Wanwan’s assistant, she had been working in the Capital but was not doing that well. However, as she was beautiful and didn’t want to give up on her dream of being a celebrity, she kept trying to get to know the rich, wealthy men and use them as her stepping stones.
During this process, she had tasted both success and failure, and also gained something from it.
To be able to work as Xie Wanwan’s personal assistant was the biggest ‘gain’ that she had earned for herself.
After all, Xie Wanwan was an A-list celebrity. If she worked as her assistant, there would be many chances that she could get to know rich, influential people who might be able to turn her into a star.
When Xu Siqi continued on trying to ‘level-up’ and achieve her dreams, Feng Yingjun was always her ‘sweet, understanding brother’ and ’emotional dumping ground’. He was used as her ‘pain reliever’ as he would comply with her every demand and let her do whatever she wanted.
Feng Yingjun invested all of his energy, money and his life to Xu Siqi.
He believed that his love would move hearts, that one day, Xu Siqi would stop chasing after the impossible and come to him. Of course, Xu Siqi also painted a bright future for the two of them. While she enjoyed Feng Yingjun’s love for her, she would occasionally coax him to make him happy out of conscience.
It was easy for her to say all these: “you’re the only one who treats me the best”, “sometimes, I think that I’m going to fall in love with you”, “just persist on, once this difficult period is over, we’ll obtain happiness”, “Feng Yingjun, even if everyone in the world betrayed me, I believe that you won’t. You’ll always be good to me, right?”
“I will stay by your side forever and keep you company. Don’t worry.”
That was the last sentence that Feng Yingjun said to Xu Siqi.
