Chapter 304: Going Round in Circles

Everyone looked at each other.
That was exactly what everyone had gone through.
“So what’s the reason behind it?”
“This is exactly what it meant by ghost hitting walls!” Bai Muchuan looked at everyone in their eyes. “It is a manmade illusion similar to those tactical formations set up by Masters of Ancient Magical Arts and Divination—”
“…” This sounds so mysterious!
Everyone was speechless. They remained silent and shook their heads.
Their faces looked grim as the light from the fire pit reflected on their faces.
Bai Muchuan’s burning gaze swept through everyone. “When humans walked on a route,” he continued, “they tend to rely on their surrounding objects to continue. When there is a lack of obvious, identifiable objects, they will easily lose their direction and end up walking in circles.
“I’ve read an article online where a group of people spent a lot of money to dig through a mountain and created a cave with tunnels. People who walk in that cave will feel that they are walking upwards. Yet in the end… they will always end up at the spot where they started out. The design of the cave amazed and intrigued many. It is a fact that such illusion existed and could be created.”
There are many things in the world that science couldn’t explain when it comes to nature.
Besides, this was, after all, human intervention.
They were in a huge forest. Under normal circumstances, they should not encounter the scenario of going round in circles. However, from what Cheng Zheng had told him, there was actually the presence of a natural-focal disease within the forest. If a person was not in a good physical condition, it would be hard for them to make a clear judgment…
On top of that, the visibility in the forest was very poor. If someone had deliberately created the illusion effect of making people going around in circles in the forest at a certain location, it was totally possible.
Everybody felt a chill as they listened.
The trees and terrain did make the place seem similar to a high degree.
The compass stopped working and they lost all forms of signals after a point in time when they entered the forest. As soon as they realized that they had lost their sense of direction, a strong feeling of uneasiness descended upon them. In addition, as the forest was really huge, that actually misled them from thinking that they were actually being plotted against.
As these sounded too mysterious, someone asked in a cautious tone, “Maybe this forest is being created in such a way to create an optical illusion just like the people who designed the cave?”
Bai Muchuan nodded. “That is highly possible.”
Xiang Wan’s smiling eyes looked at Bai Muchuan as though she was a little fan of his. “If this is not man-made, a lot of things would not make sense.”
Everyone nodded their heads.
“But there are new doubts as well.”
Another person who was a fan of Bai Muchuan was Lima. She had also been listening all this while. “This place is so big,” she suddenly opened her mouth, “who would have the ability to create a place like this?”
“Money!” Bai Muchuan’s gaze gradually turned cold. “Money will make all this possible.”
“…”
Money makes the world go round.
Everyone nodded their heads once again.
Lima’s body quivered. She asked again, “Is it the Dark Clan?”
Bai Muchuan did not answer.
“Yeah, Captain Bai, is it the Dark Clan?”
A few of them couldn’t handle the suspense and kept asking Bai Muchuan for an answer.
The corners of Bai Muchuan’s mouth curved to show a devilish, cold grin.
“Before the truth comes to light, there is no need to rush for an answer.”
“Yeah, it’s still too early to conclude anything—”
A man like Bai Muchuan would always be the leader of a pack of wolves.
He was in control of the conversation and everybody’s thoughts.
It might not be intentional but people just seem to follow him.
That was probably what was so charming about him.
Xiang Wan smiled knowingly when she took a quick glance at Lima—she caught the look of adoration in Lima’s eyes.
“But I still don’t understand.”
“Mm?” Bai Muchuan squinted his eyes. “Which part?”
Xiang Wan raised her eyebrows. “I don’t understand why you thought of ghost hitting walls at the sight of me? Why do you associate a pretty girl like me with ghosts?”
“…”
Xiang Wan was normally a reserved person in normal circumstances.
Even if she wanted to praise her own beauty, she would only do it when she was alone with Bai Muchuan.
To praise herself in front of so many people—that was abnormal of her!
Bai Muchuan looked at her mischievous gaze and meaningful smile. He lovingly pinched her on the cheek as he puffed a sigh.
“A female ghost-like Nie Xiaoqian 1 is also very beautiful—”
“But you’re not Ning Caichen.” Xiang Wan rolled her eyes and laughed. “Quick, out with it! Don’t keep me in suspense! You’re so annoying!”
Her beautiful smile made her pale face look so much better.
Bai Muchuan shook his head as he chuckled, and did not tease her anymore
“When I saw you earlier, you were above me. From my angle of vision, the people from Dark Clan were on a higher terrain. When I pulled you, I noticed how you landed on top of me…”
The words “landed on”…
He used it so conveniently!
Bai Muchuan gave a half-smile and paused for a moment before he cleared his throat.
“After you landed on me, it suddenly occurred to me… that you are still above me.”
“…”
Is there a problem?
When they fell down together, she was indeed on top, but what was the problem?
Xiang Wan did not know what he was trying to say…
“I totally don’t understand. Is there anything different about it?”
“Yes. Of course, there is a difference.” Bai Muchuan looked seriously at her with his smiling eyes. “Before running into you, I’m not afraid of dying even if I were to follow them around in circles. After I saw you, though, and you were above me… I thought I have to protect you. At that moment, it was as though good fortune landed upon me and I gained enlightenment about the situation.”
Xiang Wan’s jaw dropped. “…”
Everyone buried their heads on their palm after hearing what he had said. “…”
She had thought he would give a scientific explanation.
It turned out to be sweet nothings—dog food for the rest, instead…
However, nobody could rebut that his explanation was incorrect?
Since that thought occurred after he saw Xiang Wan!
There was nothing wrong with it!
Everyone was convinced.
To make it sound even more convincing, Bai Muchuan took a burnt stick from the ground and sketched out a blueprint for the optical illusion of them going around in circles to aid in his explanation.
“It’s too mystifying that I’m unable to get any sense of it.”
“That is impressive! It’s as though taking advantage of the blind spot of our logical thinking.”
“This… I suddenly feel that I’m illiterate!”
“It’s not a feeling! You’re really illiterate!”
The teammates teased each other and voiced their opinions.
However, Xiang Wan was looking at the fire pit and stayed quiet for a long time.
“Is your wound hurting?” Bai Muchuan lowered his head to look at her injured leg.
“Not at all.” Xiang Wan shook her head.
“So are you feeling any discomfort?” Bai Muchuan’s eyebrows scrunched together as he stretched out his hand to feel her forehead.
“I do feel a little dizzy, but it doesn’t affect my thoughts.”
When Xiang Wan finished saying this, she realized that she had unknowingly imitated Bai Muchuan’s way of talking when he was acting cool.
Bai Muchuan had noticed that as well and teased her. “So Teacher Xiang, what are you thinking about?”
Xiang Wan cleared her throat and put on a serious look. “I just thought of a question. Do you think this amazing design is the work of a normal person? Is Brother Steel… a person capable of coming up with that? Does he have this level of intelligence as well as a top-notch crew that did this for him? I feel like this is not something that having lots of money can achieve either!”
Even if he had the money, he would still need to have the brains to come up with something like that!
