Chapter 13: I’ve got this Tyrant’s back
Gu Yuan looked at him.
Joy and sorrow burned into his chest; it penetrated his deep eyes and poured out in torrents.
He had always known that Lu Zhiguang had a secret.
He thought that Lu Zhiguang could rely on these secrets to protect himself and live safely out of danger. But he didn’t expect the he would instead rely on these secrets to rush back from a few light years away, back to the center of the vortex filled with the menace of death and come back to find him.
A different planet, a foreign land, layers upon layers of blockades and perils at every corner.
Cold wind passed through the high windows, the windproof lamp swayed gently. In the cold and cruel prison, his young man stood before the iron railing, looking at him.
Even though he wanted so much to see more clearly, his vision still inevitably dimmed. He had used up his remaining strength rushing to the cell door. Gu Yuan supported himself against the iron railing, trying to stabilize his body but he found that the strength of the youth’s embrace was as before, still steady and constant.
Lu Deng held him firmly, his eyes fixed on him. He freed one of his hands and rummaged in his pocket. Leaning through the cell door, he sent the fragrant pill to Gu Yuan’s lips.
Amidst his muddleheaded-ness, the warmth of the boy’s fingertips suddenly rubbed against his lips.
Gu Yuan’s heartbeat quickened slightly. The medicine had been fed into his mouth, and the slightly bitter fragrance quickly dissipated under his tongue.
His groggy mind regained some clarity. Gu Yuan took a deep breath and tried to stand up straight. Lu Deng had already increased his strength to help him lean steadily against the cell door.
The turbulent tide in his heart gradually calmed down. Gu Yuan closed his eyes and let a burst of dizziness pass. Opening his eyes, he was once against met with Lu Deng’s worry and concern-filled eyes. He put his hand through the iron railing and stroked his delicate face.
The young man held his hand. The strength of his hand was not as strong as before. His long lashes fluttered twice before he soundlessly opened his mouth to speak.
The light was dim, and the speed at which Lu Deng spoke was quicker than usual. Gu Yuan couldn’t clearly see the shape of his mouth as he spoke. He only had time to distinguish a few core phrases that were particularly clear.
“Handed in my paper ahead of time… War broke out… came to find you…”
He was vaguely able to make out his meaning. Comprehension gradually came.
Gu Yuan smiled bitterly, his left arm out through the iron railing. He embraced the youth in his arms, the iron railings between them.
Lu Deng leaned against his chest docilely, his arms clasped around his back. This hug was tighter than before, but his movements were still careful and gentle.
The main planet of the Pulitzer galaxy was 6.1 light-years away. People had to rely on galaxy ships to travel back and forth. Gu Yuan had been confident that this wouldn’t be affected by the war and so he was able to safely send the young man away. He thought that he’d been able to send Lu Zhiguang away safe and sound but he forgot that exam candidates who finished the exam would get a free return flight.
Even disregarding his seemingly magical ability to locate him no matter where he went, with Lu Zhiguang’s judgement ability, he must have guessed that he had been brought back to Planet Guar.
But Lu Zhiguang undoubtedly shouldn’t have come.
The wounds on his chest was stuck close to the cold iron railings but Gu Yuan didn’t seem to feel the pain. He just tightened his arms even more and whispered into his ear, “It’s dangerous here. Leave here and wait for me…listen to what I say.”
The teenager always listened to him before, but this time he was totally uncertain.
Realizing that the body in his arms didn’t seem to have any reaction to what he’d said, Gu Yuan’s heart sank slightly. He loosened his arm a bit and took a half step back to meet the youth’s dark eyes.
Lu Zhiguang looked at him. His right hand resting on the cell door, his left hand still supporting his arm. His eyes were still as calm and clear as before, as though he hadn’t heard what he’d said.
Suddenly becoming aware of the other party’s intentions, Gu Yuan’s throat became choked. Great unease rose up in his heart. “Zhiguang, listen to me&#k2026;”
He wanted to say a few more words to comfort the other, but given his current situation, he completely lacked any sort of pervasiveness. His arm grew taut subconsciously, half from pain and half from nervousness. Black mist almost covered his sight once again.
If only he had to endure through this, he wouldn’t have any hesitations. But if Lu Zhiguang were to take desperate risks for his sake, the youth would undoubtedly be dragged into endless danger. The slightest bit of carelessness, would pull him into the fierce vortex and crush him.
Seeming to perceive his discomfort, the arm supporting Gu Yuan moved. The youth’s both moved closer, trying to stroke his back to bring comfort. But, Gu Yuan held his wrist.
“Zhiguang, it’s too dangerous here. If they discover you’re here, they won’t let you go. Leave here first. Galileo will find a way. You don’t have to rely just on yourself…”
There were surveillance cameras everywhere. If he stayed here, he could be discovered at anytime.
He knew that Lu Zhiguang had the ability to come in and he must have a way to sneak out. But once he had drawn the attention of the Guars, it would undoubtedly become much more difficult to get out.
Gu Yuan became increasingly worried. He tried his best to hold back, leaving only the sound of his breath. He was about to try to persuade him again when the solid cell door, encrypted with three layers of security, suddenly shook, and the electronic lock turned green, allowing passage.
Lu Deng finally lifted his right had that had all through out been placed on top of the cell door. The red light on the connected smart computer went out. A fine and bright silver wire flashed between his fingers and with just a momentary effort, the last layer of mechanical lock let out a light click.
He firmly caught the heavy padlock just as it was about to fall.
Their conversation came to an abrupt stop. Gu Yuan stared at this unforeseen turn of events before him. The youth however, had already opened the prison door and threw himself into his arms.
Without the cold iron railing between them, with the warm body pressed solidly against his chest, it was as if all his dully-aching wounds healed instantly.
Suddenly unable to tell if this was all a dream, Gu Yuan’s heart suddenly began jumping wildly. His shortness of breath nearly created stabs of pain. He hesitantly raised his hand, but Lu Deng’s arms were already firmly embracing his body. .
The soft forehead rubbed against his neck, his heart beat gently and steadily, and the fresh smell of grasses and trees gently brushed against his nose.
Gu Yuan closed his eyes, tightened his arms, and wrapped the person firmly in his arms. His eyes finally grew hot and sore.
*
A few minutes later, the dark cell was shrouded in dim light.
The cell door was closed tightly once again. Lu Deng helped him to lie on the stone bed covered with flannel blankets. He took out the 'unchanging growth star milk' from his schoolbag and carefully had Gu Yuan drink it.
As soon as the sweet, mellow liquid passed through his throat, the first thing it caused was reflexive pain from having his stomach empty for so long. Gu Yuan instinctively gave a slight frown. Lu Deng, who had him cradled in his arms, noticed almost immediately. He stopped his hands and quiet worry appeared in his eyes.
Gu Yuan raised the corners of his lips and lifted his hand to rub they boy’s short hair. “It’s okay, you can talk here.”
There was a sound barrier in the prison. Most of the prisoners here were serious criminals. Not to mention groaning and screaming, there were also many people who were screaming as they suffered a mental breakdown. If they hadn’t put up the sound barrier to assist their cover up, such violations of human rights would have long been met with sanctions and banned by the Galaxy Court. .
That familiar warmth covered the top of his forehead. Lu Deng’s eyes brightened, and the corners of his lips curved softly. Finally, he said, “I won’t leave, nor take risks. I’ll stay here with you.”
Now was not the right time to escape from prison. Gu Yuan’s physical condition was so bad that they wouldn’t be able get very far. Even if they could get out of this prison, they would only struggle on this hostile planet.
He had to wait not only for Gu Yuan’s body to recover, but also to prevent the Guars from torturing him again. In order to do this, the timing became particularly important. Instead of trying to get in again when the time comes, it was better to just stay here with him.
The boy’s words were almost naive. Gu Yuan’s lips ticked up in a helpless smile. After scanning the door locks and monitoring and seeing that nothing seemed to be the slightest bit out of the ordinary, he was convinced and fell silent.
Due to his identity, he had been in contact with high-level officials of several core planets. He also knew of the existence of special agents who had undergone special training and transformation. For specially trained agents, doing something like this wouldn’t at all be difficult.
Whether in terms of ability or the style with which he accomplished tasks, Lu Zhiguang was like a professionally trained agent. Gu Yuan wasn’t worried about this. He was just worried that if his young man was a special agent of some planet, staying with him in this way, would result in some consequences for the boy.
Fortunately, he has transferred and secured his savings in advance and he still had some social standing. In case, Lu Zhiguang’s mother planet took him back for dereliction of duty, he could try to buy him back and provide for him once again.
Seeing that he had stopped speaking, Lu Deng took it as him silently acquiescing. He brow smoothed out and he slowly fed him the milk. He also took out a a nutrition pill to feed to him.
These were all snacks that the organizers of the exam gave to all candidates to adjust their mentality. Contrary to expectations, Lu Deng had hoarded them all away.
The strawberry-flavored nutritional pills melted on his tongue, sour and sweet. The warm fingertips hovered around his lips for a while, and then moved back after confirming that he could keep it down. It resulted in the slightest of breezes, teasing this deepest, most sensitive corner of his heart.
Gu Yuan’s heart softened and felt warmed. Meeting the light in his black eyes, he finally gave up trying to persuade him to leave.
When the guard delivering the food left just now, Lu Zhiguang probably took advantage of that moment to sneak in. He wouldn’t be able to get out for a while. Gu Yuan himself couldn’t find the other if it weren’t for that bell around his neck. With that kind of ability, it really probably was safer for him to hide here than to risk leaving.
Thinking of the bell, Gu Yuan slightly propped up his body and subconsciously turned to look for it.
Lu Deng was in the middle of handling the injuries on his chest for him. He had his body slightly bent, his eyes focused and his movements, gentle. He still had the bell around his neck but with some white cotton wool stuffed in it. No wonder he never heard the sound of the bell.
Perceiving the other party’s movement, Lu Deng paused slightly. After confirming that Gu Yuan was not in any pain, he felt relieved. He held Gu Yuan’s hand and lightly touched the bell on his neck. His brows spread out in a beautiful arc.
“I promised to come and pick you up twice, but instead you had to work hard to find me yourself.”
Gu Yuan chuckled helplessly. He clung to the bell and wiped it with his fingertips. He then held that hand back, “There won’t be a third time, I promise.”
Lu Deng shook his head, suddenly leaned over, and extended his arms to enfold him in a warm embrace. “It was me who always couldn’t wait…”
Since the two met, it seems that they have not been separated for more than a day. Gu Yuan was also unwilling to let go of him. He embraced him back and let the boy lean against his chest, placing a kiss on his forehead.
“Next time I won’t make you wait for so long—when you can’t wait for me, count to a hundred in your heart, and I’ll come.”
Everything was about to end. The darkness before the dawn was often the coldest. He didn’t know whether he could survive this desperate crisis but he knew his heart clearly.
Live and protect him. Die and stay with him.
He would never fail to keep his promise again.
Lu Deng hugged him for a while. Feeling Gu Yuan’s heartbeat, measuring it as it gradually calmed down. He then took him in his arms and turned him over on the bed, peeling off his clothes, and continuing to deal with the injuries on his back.
There was probably something mixed in the milk. After drinking it, the pain gradually faded. Although Gu Yuan could feel that the other meticulously taking care of his injuries, he couldn’t feel much pain.
He felt once again the long absent sense of peace and comfort. Gu Yuan yawned slightly, his eyes gradually dimmed. The thin figure of the young man was gathered in the light. Through the tears squeezed out from his eyes due to his sleepy yawn, those dim rays of light turned warm and gentle.
And so, his heart finally quietly settled down.
His clothes had to be taken off as his injuries were bandaged. Amidst his dazed state, Gu Yuan felt a bit cold. Gu Yuan, instinctively moved his body when suddenly something warm and clean-smelling covered him.
Lu Deng had taken care of the wounds on his back. Lu Deng once against draped his clothes over him and he also took off his own clothes and covered him with it. He opened the buttons of his shirt one by one and got into his arms. Placing the ice-cold Gu Yuan firmly within his embrace.
In any case, the cell was cold, and if you want to keep warm, their body heat would be the best source of heat.
The two people were very close, so close that they could feel each other’s gentle warm breaths. The boy’s eyes were clear and pure as before; looking openly at him, a vague sense of expectations in his eyes, as if waiting for his reaction.
The warm body was nestled between his arms. There wasn’t even a piece of clothing between them. Naturally, it was impossible for Gu Yuan to be unresponsive. It was just that none his reactions seemed suitable for this situation.
A faint sense of tension that he hadn’t felt even when he’d been tortured welled up from his chest. Gu Yuan’s throat became choked up and he gulped. The beginning of that night when he’d lost control under the effects of the drug stirred up from the depths of his memories.
The two of them shared the same bed many times before, but it was only the second time that they were naked together.
Last time, he had been forced into desperate straits by the drug and it was inevitable that he would leave the young man with unpleasant memories. If their second time would be in a cell, with torture wounds all over his body, he was afraid Lu Zhiguang would form a grave misconception about this sort of matter in the future.
Perceiving that Gu Yuan’s heartbeat was a little fast, Lu Deng raised his head form between his arms, tentatively holding the other tighter, forcing more of his body heat to flow through to the other. “Is it cold?”

It’s not cold at all anymore.
Gu Yuan closed his eyes, pretending to be asleep, slowly adjusting his breathing.
After calming down his entangled thoughts, Gu Yuan forced his thoughts to return to their icy reality, to the current state of two planets at war, to return to their situation in this cell they wouldn’t necessarily be able to get out of.
Their high-level mechas had been destroyed in one fell swoop. Right now, Planet Guar could hardly protect themselves. A number of planets were eyeing them like tigers watching their prey. After dragging on this war for another two weeks, the peace talks will begin. At that time, a representative from Galileo will come to Planet Guar and he might be able to send Lu Zhiguang home.
Maybe he could find a way for them to escape together.
The body in his arms was warm and pliable, with the vibrant breath of life that firmly bound his steps. No matter what, he wasn’t willing to part with him.
It’s not enough to just wait here, to wait here for that uncertain, scant hope for luck to descent. It was not enough; it was far, far from enough.
He wanted to find a way to keep on living with his young man.
The plans for their escape that he turned over and over in his head was finally calmed by the surging in his body. Gu Yuan secretly breathed a sigh of relief in his heart. He was about to quietly open his eyes when he suddenly he noticed that the boy in his arms was moving. The youth cautiously held one of his hands.
Gu Yuan’s heart was suspended in worry. He maintained his composure. He held his breath for a while until finally, he felt Lu Deng move his hand and place it on top of his own head.
He felt soft hair against his palm. Lu Deng gently nudged his head against his palm and rubbed carefully against it.
