Chapter 169 - Fu Entertainment Silence Is Really Strange...
"More than two days. The drugs make one muddleheaded. You would wake up at intervals, mumbling incoherent words, I have managed to feed you during its time but you would soon go back to sleep."
The stubble on Li Luxian face made much more sense now. It couldn't be grown in one night.
"So as to say, it's been two nights? ... I need to get to work!" Chen Yi almost jumped up and if not for Li Luxian, she would have straight dashed out of the room and made her way to Su Xiuying and Xu Jiayi.
Their plan was at such a critical phase. If something went wrong, she wouldn't be able to forgo that.
"Slow down. No, you are not going anywhere." Li Luxian put her back in place. Glaring down at her, he said. "Your body is still weak. You are not leaving until you fully recover."
"But..."
"Before I uncover the person behind this attack, you are not going anywhere." Li Luxian passed down the order, stern and unyielding.
Chen Yi realized that her passing out might have left an inconveniently deep impression on Li Luxian. So much as he was behaving quite overbearing,
But she couldn't do anything.
Give it some time and he would be fine.
After making certain that Chen Yi was well fed and her temperature was down, Li Luxian finally left when Zhang Xin came knocking in with a plethora of urgent matters that demanded his immediate presence. He still looked reluctant to part. If not for Chen Yi non stop assurance that she was fine and wouldn't die all of sudden, he still might not have left.
"Finally," Chen Yi grabbed out her phone and browsed through the latest news. The issue related to Qin Chanpu was selling like hotcakes, every major agency covering it. "That's expected." However, what wasn't expected was the delay from the Fu Entertainment side. Their PR had yet to release a statement.
From Chen Yi calculation, they should have long thrown this trouble in Qin Chanpu direction and wiped their hands clean.
"Strange.." She muttered before a message from Su Xiuying popped up.
Chen Yi called her up and the first thing she heard was Su Xiuying worried voice. "Yi Jie, are you alright? Why were you picking up these last few days? Something did not happen to you, right?"
It was not surprising to find Su Xiuying worried. With how tense the situation was, she would have certainly guessed someone had targeted Chen Yi. "I'm alright. I came down with a fever these last couple of days, don't worry I'm fine, okay," Chen Yi paused before asking. "Speaking of which, how is the situation at your end. The company, have they contacted you?"
"No, they didn't try to approach me. I've not made a visit either."
"That's really strange..." Chen Yi assumed that since they hadn't yet blamed Qin Chanpu, they must have been thinking of an alternative, approaching Su Xiuyin and forcing her to back down.
Although this was unlikely, she couldn't think of any better reason behind their silence.
"Yi Jie, the reporter's pressure has been too much this past couple of days. What should I do?"
"That's a double-edged knife." Chen Yi said before giving her directions to best make use of this opportunity. When she had hung up, she was unsettled for long afterwards.
Why was Fu entertainment so silent?
It appeared she needed to make a visit. Chen Yi donned a dress and groomed herself. Although she was still feeling lightheaded after the recovery, it wasn't like she needed to be confined to bed.
Tricking the people Li Luxian had placed to guard her was an easy matter. However, that also meant she couldn't use the car. She hailed a cab and made her way to Fu Entertainment.
The atmosphere inside the company was very grave. As Chen Yi walled through the hallways, the place that used to be filled with endless gossiping gave off quite a sombre aura. Everyone was tense, worrying their hair grey into thinking of a way to outdo the negative PR.
"Chen Yi... What a rare sight to see you here." Someone approached Chen Yi, an amiable smile upon their face.
"You are... Manager Pei?" Shen Yi recognized the man, he was someone who looked after the most valuable of the artiste in the company. Someone from the senior management team. He could be said as one of the founders of the company, even Fu Jianguo grandfather had his utmost trust in this man.
"Ah... We haven't had a formal introduction but you recognized me. I'm flattered." Pei Zhang laughed.
"I'm just a nobody. Manager Pei must be joking."
"Someone who Director Song fancies can't stay nobody for long." Manager Pei winked. "If it doesn't bother you, I would like to invite you inside my office and have a chat. Truly, the girls under my management give me such a headache. I would like to learn a thing or two from you."
Chen Yi realized it was an invitation to potential future collaboration. This Pei Zhang was a man of means, Fu Jianguo close confidant, no wonder he already knew that Chen Yi had come under Director Song eyes. Thinking back for further information on this Pei Zhang, Chen Yi recalled that a few of the girls he controlled came into direct competition with Chen Ying.
So as to say, he stood in a position of antagonism with Chen Ying.
And an enemy of an enemy is a friend.
And on top of that, Chen Yi had not forgotten her original purpose behind coming to Fu Entertainment.
Getting back at Chen Ying came secondary, her primary was something else.
She needed to get close to the people in Fu Jianguo inner circle.
Perhaps all these reasons made her throw the deep-rooted caution out the window and she followed Pei Zhang suggestion. She smiled and entered his office.
How could she have known that under the guise of a warm smile, that man had already joined hands with Chen Ying?
