Chapter 168 - Chen Yi, Leave Those Dognuts For The Orphans.
Monsters!
Monster everywhere!
"Haha, do you want this? Oh, isn't this one your favourite? Glazed blueberry cake doughnut?" The meanest one waved one before her.
Chen Yi nodded her head in a trance, drool running down her face.
"Dream on! Hahaha!"
The monster shoved it into its disgusting mouth. Munching down, he swallowed it in one go.
"Wait...!"
The monster picked the next dognut and shoved it into its mouth, the yellowish, jaggedly teeth chewing it in one go and swallowing without any pity.
"No, stop it! It was me! Me who carefully picked them all up!" She screamed at the top of her lungs but the monster didn't stop.
Chen Yi tried to lurch forward in desperation but she realized she couldn't. Looking back, she found her hand was chained.
"You shouldn't be eating unhealthy food wife." A serious voice said. "Let the orphans have them."
"Orphans?" Chen Yi screamed back in shock. "That's clearly a monster, are you blind?" She couldn't understand. It was a huge, green coloured, horned monster who was eating her pastries. Why would Li Luxian still take their side?
However, the chain didn't let her go.
"Why did you have to go alone?" The dark devil asked, his voice weirdly grave. A hint of hurt in his tone.
Guilt spurted in her chest. As Chen Yi stumbled for words, the background started to change. The eyes staring at her and their intensity remained the same but the darkness transformed into dim lightning.
Chen Yi blinked twice.
"You are awake." A hoarse voice stirred her. Before she could comprehend her current situation, warmness engulfed her.
"W-What..." In confusion, she uttered but stopped at once, finding her throat was uncomfortably dry.
"Don't speak. You are okay now." Li Luxian had his arms around her. He patted her head in a gentle caress. His touch was so gentle as if handling a delicate piece of glassware, afraid to hurt the person in his hands.
"I...Wa-ater..."
Li Luxian carefully let go. Reclining Chen Yi against the headboard and covering her up with a blanket, Li Luxian picked up a glass from the bedside drawer and wordlessly disappeared from the room.
Only now Chen Yi had gained back a bit of sense. She recalled the events before she passed out. Looking at the dark ages under his eyes, his unkempt appearance and slight stubble, Chen Yi connected everything and understood what might have happened.
When Li Luxian returned with a glass of water, he supported her back and placed the rim of the glass against her dry lips.
"You don't need to... I mean, I can do it myself." Chen Yi looked uncomfortable at being handled like a patient. To show him that she was fine, she reached up her hand to grab the glass but Li Luxian tightened his hold. Chen Yi secretly looked at him, finding his cold expression she didn't resist anymore and obediently drank with his help.
After placing the glass down, a few servants came in. Li Luxian had them place a bed table before Chen Yi and took a few bowls from them. Once they were alone again, Li Luxian picked up a spoon. Taking some porridge, he guided it towards her. "The doctors said you can't have anything harsh. I've tried to make this taste better, you'll have to do with it."
Chen Yi was going to decline because she really didn't have any appetite but once hearing Li Luxian personally cook this porridge, she was lost for words. "You made it yourself. I mean, where's the chef you hired?"
"When it comes to you, I think I don't have confidence in others to take care of you." Although in this case, he said it was for food. But his words ultimately implied how his men had failed to protect her.
Chen Yi felt it was not right. "Hey, stop looking so glum. Aren't I just fine?" She didn't know why but she was having this persistent feeling of guilt. "Alright, it was my fault. I should have had that ice cream when I was already having a cold. I admit." Now could he stop being so serious and glum?
Slowly, Li Luxian put down the spoon. "Why are you apologizing?"
"Huh?" Chen Yi could not unscramble this. Wasn't he being so cold because he blamed her for being careless?
"I was the one who failed to protect you." Li Luxian said with a sarcastic smile directed at none other than himself.
Chen Yi was, once again, lost for words.
She opened her mouth then closed it, unsure of what to say. In the end, she said a silent. "It's not your fault."
Chen Yi didn't want to go overboard with her consoling. She had already had this in mind to keep a safe distance from Li Luxian. If she said too many words to make him feel comfortable, the subtle distance between them might shorten. Thus she hurriedly changed the topic. "Who were those people? Did you get any clue on the person behind this?" She asked as she attempted to take the spoon from Li Luxian hands, "Let me, I can eat myself."
However, Li Luxian declined, "Keep your hands under the comforter." His tone was firm, he was not going to yield at this. "You must not get cold." His gaze became fierce as he directly put her hands down, covered them with the blanket and took charge of feeding her.
Helpless, Chen Yi could only do as he was told.
As he fed her, spoon by spoon, Chen Yi felt both embarrassed and angry. Perhaps that was the reason, her face flushed. Li Luxian couldn't help but chuckle at her cute little reaction. "The investigation is still underway, the person behind this take note to use hidden means to hire them. Besides, those scums have been out for the last couple of days, we haven't been able to interrogate them."
At this, Chen Yi looked back, shocked. "Couple of days? Wait.... How long I have been unconscious for?!"
