After Gwendolyn roughly sorted out her thoughts, she quickly refocused and immersed herself in her
work.
The afternoon passed by in the blink of an eye. Twilight illuminated the sky outside and filtered in
through the floor-to-ceiling window, casting its light on her beautiful profile.
Ever since she was diagnosed with mania, she had been visiting Joshua’s place every night for an IV
drip for a week.
Her alarm for leaving work half an hour early hadn’t sounded yet, but her phone rang first.
She glanced at the screen and noticed it was a call from Jennifer.
As soon as Gwendolyn answered the call, she asked, “Did you run away from home again?”
Jennifer didn’t respond.
Sensing Jennifer’s silence, Gwendolyn probed further, “Or did you throw another tantrum? Where are
you? Do you need to come out for a bit and have a chat?”
Jennifer replied, “No. I’ve been good these past few days. I’m just a little bored studying at home. I just
finished memorizing the information and wanted to play a game with you. Are you free?”
Gwendolyn thought. Oh. She wants to play that Honor of Kings game.
She quite liked that game and had grown addicted to it because of Jennifer’s influence. “I was just
about to finish up work. A round of that game doesn’t take long. The time should be just right for me to
get off work after a few rounds. Let’s go.”
The two opened the voice chat in the game and started to play while conversing.
Initially, Gwendolyn planned to play only two or three rounds, but for some reason, her luck wasn’t
good that day as all her teammates were newbies.
After losing three rounds in a row, the two became determined to win a game before logging off.
Eventually, it turned into a cycle of not giving up after a loss and wanting to play again after a win.
While gaming, Gwendolyn had her phone set to esports mode, automatically rejecting all calls and
message notifications.
Meanwhile, Cedrick waited anxiously at home. He had dialed Gwendolyn’s number over ten times
without getting through.
The twilight gradually faded as the sun dipped below the horizon, and the sky swiftly turned dark
Gwendolyn sat in her office chair and was absorbed in playing the game without switching on the lights.
After some time, a click abruptly sounded as the lights inside her office were turned on. Cedrick stood
at the doorway, staring at her with a grimace
Hearing the noise. Gwendolyn looked up. “Hubby, why did you come here? I’m working overtime.”
“Working overtime?”
He hastened over and pointed at her phone screen, which was displaying a game interface. “So, this is
the overtime you’re doing at the company instead of coming home.”
Gwendolyn hadn’t finished the round of games she was playing.
She gazed at Cedrick cheerily while buying equipment in the game, explaining unabashedly, “That’s
right I’m personally experiencing the project I plan to invest in next. I need to understand it in depth to
make more informed investment decisions. Don’t you agree, Hubby?”
Cedrick walked behind her and looked at the game interface. “You’re thinking of investing in the exports
industry?”
“I think esports is quite interesting. We live in the internet age, so esports might be the future trend. I
want to invest money to create a club, build a team, or something to that effect.”
Cedrick had never interfered in Gwendolyn’s career.
She was never content being a pampered wife to a wealthy man. She had her own ambitions, and he
would support whatever she wanted to do.
At that thought, Cedrick wasn’t so upset anymore, assuming Gwendolyn was just testing out a product
before investing.
He stood behind her, bent down to wrap his arms around her waist, and rested his chin lazily on her
shoulder while watching her play the mobile game.
As the in-game victory announcement rang out, Treyton arrived home on Jennifer’s end.
The two girls said their goodbyes and hung up.
Gwendolyn turned to Cedrick and inquired about his view after he observed the gameplay, “What do
you think? Isn’t it interesting?”
Cedrick buried his face into the nook of her neck and took a deep breath. “Indeed. It’s fascinating.”
However, it was unclear whether he was referring to the game or her body fragrance.
“Let’s go home and have our dinner, Gwenny”
Gwendolyn nodded, allowing him to carry her in his arms and leave the office.
After dinner, Gwendolyn also invited Cedrick to play Honor of Kings
The couple teamed up for a few fun rounds of the game.
Men usually had a stronger desire to win in games than women, and Cedrick was no exception.
Once invested in the game, he was determined to keep playing until he won.
The two played more than ten rounds together. At around eleven o’clock at night, they finally stopped
playing and went upstairs to check on Benedict and Zendaya, who were sound asleep, before heading
down to the basement to sleep.
As per their usual routine, Cedrick would hold Gwendolyn and refrain from falling into a deep sleep,
silently waiting for her to drift off first.
However, this time, after days of working during the day and accompanying her to fight at night, he
unknowingly dozed off alongside her.
They slept until the next morning.
Cedrick was awakened by his subconscious. He immediately checked the time, realizing it was already
half past nine in the morning.
That meant Gwendolyn hadn’t suffered a relapse all night.
Cedrick was thrilled, looking at Gwendolyn, who was still sound asleep. This is such great news!
He rolled over to pin her beneath him, showering her with kisses.
She was abruptly roused from her slumber by his kisses. “What are you doing?”
“Darling, Joshua’s medication is working. You didn’t have an episode last night.”
“Really?”
Gwendolyn was equally surprised and delighted. That was the first time she had slept through the night
since her diagnosis. It had been a long while since she had gotten such quality and sufficient rest as an
average person should.
She wrapped her arms around Cedrick’s waist, feeling grateful for his thoughtfulness and commitment
throughout that period. “Hubby, does that mean my condition is improving?”
“That’s right. Congratulations, Darling.” He cupped her face and kissed her lips passionately.
After the fervent kiss, Gwendolyn spoke in a coy voice. “Does that mean I can wear the dresses and
costumes we bought at Astoria?“
Cedrick fell silent:
Although he really wanted to see her in those outfits, he had to restrain himself. Her condition had just
improved, and vigorous activities might possibly aggravate her illness, so he figured it would be best for
them to practice caution.
Gwendolyn snorted gloomily after her suggestion for them to get intimate was rejected. She got up and
went back to the bedroom to freshen up and apply her makeup.
Despite feeling a little annoyed, she knew Cedrick had her best interest at heart.
After the two had their breakfast, they held hands and headed for the Jenson residence’s garage.
Initially, he planned to send her to Harris Group, but she turned down his offer. “I have other things to
do today and will have to leave Harris Group for a while in the afternoon, so it will be more convenient
for me to drive myself.”
Knowing it was about work, Cedrick didn’t ask further. They parted in the garage, each driving a luxury
car, and departed from the Jenson residence.
In the afternoon, Annie reached Harris Group on the dot.
Gwendolyn stopped typing on her keyboard. “You arrived just in time, Ms. Annie. Come with me.
There’s a place I want to take you to.”
She stood up and picked up her designer bag from the side as she spoke.
Annie asked. “Where are you bringing me. Ms. Harris?”
Without elaborating, Gwendolyn answered casually. “You’ll know when we get there.”
The two entered the elevator one after the other and went down to the garage.
Gwendolyn drove while Annie sat in the passenger seat.
Half an hour later, they arrived at the Harris residence on Mount Tranquil.
Annie gazed out the car window, marveling at the beautiful hillside villa along the winding mountain
road.
“Where is this place? This mountain is breathtaking. I’ve never been here before.”
Without taking her eyes off the road, Gwendolyn asked, “Do you like this place, Ms. Annie?”
Annie riveted her eyes on the edifice on the hilltop. That was the old villa Marcus previously stayed in.
“Yes. I like it very much.”
