House Of Legions (The Angel Descendants book 1) Chapter 46 (Clare)

“Orderian? I heard Caidrian say something about them, and Advisors right?”

Kalbreal said, “Orderian are, all those who are part of the Angelic order, besides the Lightwatchers.
Advisors are the prime leaders of the Lightwatcher’s.”

Caidrian cleared his throat, “Both my children together after all these years, embracing, Adonai has
been good to us.”

Nathan looked at his father, with unhidden disgust, before he stormed off. Kalbreal sped off into the
mist, no sooner, like a camera trick. One minute he’s there, then poof, gone. Except, this was very real,
so much real, that his scent was left behind, musky and citrus, almost like grapefruit, not the cologne
she smelt on William, like black rich aromatic coffee wrapped up in a decadent brand of honey, and
drizzled with dried lilies, the recipe of seduction, her seduction, she thought.

The clearing of a throat brought her back from the forbidden thoughts that stirred her mind. Clare
stared at Caidrian, trying very hard to keep her eyes from wandering. The way Nathan fled, and his
admission of physically forcing a guy to his whim, was all she needed to know that playing juju with one
another’s senses was not allowed, but curiosity was a power on its own, when she asked, with as
much casualness that she could muster up, “What was that about?”

“Don’t worry about it, I’m off, Nadia will walk you back.”

Clare scanned the area, looking around the Bayou, to see where Nadia was. She hadn’t seen her when
the people had hugged her. She never really had an opportunity to speak with the girl, she barely
caught a glimpse of her. Finally, Clare spotted her sitting on a chair under the tree, near the lake. She
waved when she saw Clare stare at her. She was just the person that Clare needed to speak to.

Clare kept her eyes strained on Nadia whilst she spoke to Caidrian, “Ya fine, see you later.”

She left Caidrian and made her way to Nadia, without so much as a backward glance. A lady stopped
her, by standing in her way.

The female wore a white robe, “Hello, Clarebella, I am Valeri Draiken, your mother's sister.” She had a
soft but daunting voice.

Clare stared at the lady, unashamedly sizing her up, and instantly hugged the woman, she didn’t know
why she did it, but she did, and she was going to kill Nathan, but her fuzzy brain couldn’t explain the
impulse of that either, urgh, she wanted to groan.

She took a few steps back. The woman did look like her mother, it was slight, but there, and she did
have brown hair like Clare’s, she didn’t trust her feelings now that she was only conquering one
emotion, so she said, “I can see the resemblance, I’m really glad to meet you, maybe we could have a
talk sometime?”

Valeri smiled, sadly, “I’m a maker, we don’t see our family often, mostly in death, once we are initiated,
relationships are forbidden, but Franchesca’s my sister, she never did anything without a cause, so I
presume her death served one as well.” She said it looking past Clare. Clare turned to see Kalbreal
standing further down.

She didn’t know what to tell Valeri, or how to? Her sister died protecting Her, so she settled with,
“Thank you, Valeri,”

Valeri whispered into Clare’s ear, “You are a Draiken, you’ll be loved by many but feared by most, with
fear comes death and a high price, trust your heart, I have to go child, take care.”

Clare stood there, dazed in thought, how weird was that conversation, the lady really needed to get out
more, but maybe it meant something.

Nadia interrupted her, ongoing thoughts, “Hello? I don’t have all day, let’s go, you can daze at Adams,”

“Who's Adam?”

Nadia sighed, “You just have to find out,” she pulled Clare to walk.

They stalked their way into the path going toward the trees, as people moved around them, some
greeting as they walked by.

Clare’s mind, too riddled in questions to notice much, “I never had a chance to speak to you, since
well…”

Nadia replied, “You don’t remember me, it’s really not important, I’m three years older than you, we
hardly trained together, though we lived together, that’s it.”

They continued down a road, in silence, when they reached the other side of the pathway, passing the
bayou. The place was busy for a late night. Clare kept staring at Nadia, who kept pace ahead. An
obvious tell, that she wanted to avoid conversation.

Clare assessed her, she was tall, not as tall as Clare was even though she wore flat boots, but like five-
seven.

Nadia had a small frame, with curvy hips and bigger breasts. Whereas Clare’s was straight, with a solid
B cup, which for an eighteen-year-old, with a small waist, was above average in her grade books.
Nadia was definitely in the C’s, at least and a great ass.

The thought made Clare a tad bit self-conscious about her small figure, considering her height. Nadia’s
posture made her body more pronounced. She wasn’t the prettiest thing in the world but she was
attractive, with her shoulder-length light brown hair, and hazel eyes, not forgetting the highly tanned
olive skin tone. Nadia was sweet, attractive but very well guarded.

Clare asked, “What are people still doing out so late, it must be about ten?”

Nadia huffed, “It’s almost eleven, they’re leaving, we don’t stay here.” A few minutes passed, and she
was ready to give up, there was no point if Nadia was going to be so evasive.

The lightwatcher surprised her, “There was an emergency meeting last night, someone’s killing our
kind, so they’ve ordered a global search for the killer, besides who's going to kill demons if we are
here.”

Clare stepped on her robe, “Shit, Nadia by any chance, do you have something else for me to wear.”

“Yes, it’s all at Adams don’t sweat.”

They walked further up a hill, away from the busy roads, “Why is everybody so tall, and I haven’t seen
a fat person, not to mention, is there any guy who isn’t strikingly handsome.”

Nadia looked at Clare as though she was crazy, “Looks are important to you. Well for the Casters and
Lightwatchers, We are descendants of Angels, we’re supposed to be tall and good looking, we’re part
Angel. And we train constantly, which you’ll start from scratch soon, five hours a day. It’s almost
impossible to get fat, and as for the other descendants who aren’t Angelic, they also train like us, they
have a purpose, it might be a mild one and less deadly but they do have a purpose, and for the record,
they’re not all good to look at, you haven’t seen all of them, Naturahs are the most hideous of the lot,
with scaly green skin.”

Clare shuddered at the thought of that, “So Casters, are Nefilim, children of fallen Angels right, I
thought it’s just a myth, but I guess not?”

“Yes, except the children of Tempters get to choose their path, we don’t.” They turned right onto a road
that read ‘Zoid Creek’,

On the right-hand side was street lights that looked like floating metal lanterns, lighting the way up the
steep hill.

She spotted Nathan on the top of the road. His arms opened as he screamed, in an over-exerted show
of relief, “FINALLY, I thought you were resurrected.”

Nadia replied wryly, but just as loud, “How would you function without me kicking your ass.”

They approached her brother while he yelled, on the top of the incline, “history paper, due next week,
don’t forget, I’m not saving your ass this time.”

Clare’s ear peeked at this, curiosity etched on her face, “You’re studying, with all this?”

She opened her hands in the air, to gesture her point, her eyes wide, as she waited for answers.
Nathan was too relaxed, and eased, so was she but she wouldn’t be able to be so calm as Nathan
was, no matter how deluded her senses became.

He laughed as he put his arm around her shoulder, “Sister, sister, of course, I study, the brown I’m
wearing symbolizes that I’m a member of the Garde, true, but I’m also a science major at the University
of Washington, Final year.”

Clare was amazed, “Wow how do you manage all of this, and still try to be normal?”

He said, “I accept that I’m not normal but extraordinary, plus I have a photographic memory, didn’t you
apply for college?”

Clare had forgotten all about school and her normal life since yesterday, “Yes Harvard, Yale and
Oxford. Actually, I have or had an interview with Oxford in two weeks, don’t think it really matters now.”

Nathan squeezed her tight, his voice almost comical, “Of course it matters, we have to maintain normal
lives, demon-slaying is only our night jobs.”

“But don’t you'll get paid to kill demons and whatever else you guys do?”

Nathan shook his head, “We do get allowances, according to our status, and we have inheritance,
money isn’t really a problem for descendants from any race, but some of us choose to work in the
world. Obviously, some don’t, like Caidrian, who’s second in command, and head leader of the
Washington faculty, he chooses not to have any contact with the deceptors, but for me, I see it
important we blend in with them. We can learn from them. Most of our kind tend to stay away from
them. I feel there’s a lot to learn if we just listened, but all younger Lightwatchers are forced by the
Advisors to study in the deceptors schools, further education is your choice.”

“That’s the most words I’ve heard you speak, what’s the point if you don’t need education?”

“How else do we keep our kinda secret, besides what better way of spying on our enemies, especially if
they think we’re deceptors.”

Nadia stood there with her legs slightly apart, in her robe, and her boobs sticking out. Clare couldn’t
help just looking at them, there was seriously something messed up about this, she was so going to kill
Nathan tomorrow,

“Come on guys, the party’s inside.”

Clare repeated, “Party? I'm so not dressed for a party.”

Nathan shook his head, “We do get allowances, according to our status, and we have inheritance,
