Chapter 46 - TTFSO Chapter 46

Li Xin Ran stood up with red eyes and said in a low voice, “I’m going to the bathroom.”
After he finished speaking, he hurriedly ran away.
Li Can looked at him twice, not chasing after him, but turned his head and asked, “Mom, what about Xin Ran’s request for your company to sponsor his movie’s costumes?”
He and Li Xin Ran had come to mama Li’s company today to talk about sponsorship. Li Xin Ran’s film had a fashion show in it and wanted to use mama Li’s new products that had not yet been released this year.
Mama Li grumbled and turned her head away, not wanting to pay attention to him.
“……” Li Can froze at his mother’s look, “Mom?”
Mama Li turned her head and pointed at him angrily, “You still have time for movies? I’m telling you, if my good son-in-law flies away, you don’t have to enter the house anymore.”
Li Can was playing the fool with his mother, “How come I didn’t know you had a son-in-law?”
“Er Yuan is the son-in-law I’ve had my eye on for a long time.” Mama Li glared at him, “Hurry up and chase him back for me.”
Li Can glanced at Tang Er Yuan in a depressed manner and said in a slightly sour tone, “Yuan Yuan has already met Zhou Ze’s parents, why are you still imagining things?”
“Is it true that Yuan Yuan is dating Zhou family’s son?” Mama Li’s heart hurt even more and her voice was tinged with a tremor.
Li Can leaned back in his chair and loosened his collar with some annoyance, “Haven’t I told you? I like Pink Rose, don’t randomly match unmarried people together1乱点鸳鸯谱 (luàn diǎn yuān yāng pǔ): The term “yuan yang (mandarin ducks)” refers to a couple. This metaphor refers to the mismatching of an unmarried man and a woman.. .”
“Pink Rose? It’s this Li Xin Ran, isn’t it?” Mama Li snorted, “Then do you know what Pink Rose doesn’t like to eat?”
Mama Li was impressed by what her son had instructed the foreman before, because Tang Er Yuan didn’t like black pepper, the first thing Li Can did when he arrived here was to tell the foreman that if Tang Er Yuan came here to eat, never add black pepper to Tang Er Yuan’s food.
Mama Li simply suspected that Li Can had brought her and Li Xin Ran here for a meal today just to arrange Tang Er Yuan’s coming here for a meal afterwards.
Recalling the sandwich that Li Xin Ran had rejected earlier, Li Can smiled a little smugly, “He doesn’t eat sandwiches.”
Mama Li returned a bright smile, then rolled her eyes and knocked on her plate, “Then what is this?”
Li Can looked at the sandwich on his plate, “……” he had just forgotten when he ordered.
Mama Li snorted just as Li Xin Ran came back. She didn’t press her son any further and just gave him a contemptuous look.
Li Xin Ran smiled gently at mama Li then pulled the chair back and tried to sit down but something was blocking the leg of the chair and he was too weak to pull back.
Li Can was staring at the plate of sandwiches and did not notice Li Xin Ran’s dilemma. It was only when mama Li urged him to do so that he came back to his senses and hurriedly stood up and helped Li Xin Ran pull out the chair in a gentlemanly manner.
Li Xin Ran smiled at him and then sat down.
Seeing this scene, Tang Er Yuan hummed lightly inwardly and lowered his head to take a bite of the black pepper beef tenderloin without the black pepper.
Sitting opposite, father Zhou’s mouth continued to say polite things in praise of Tang Er Yuan which sounded fake to Tang Er Yuan himself. He just listened absentmindedly, not taking it seriously.
Father Zhou took a sip of wine with a flushed faced, looked at Tang Er Yuan with a smiling face and asked, “I wonder when General Tang will have time? I’ll pay him a personal visit.”
Tang Er Yuan did not want to have the two parents meet so soon so he only said: “My father has been a bit busy recently, I will let you know when he has time.”
Father Zhou nodded regretfully but still said with a smile on his face, “Government affairs are busy, it’s understandable, it’s understandable.”
Mother Zhou kept her head down and sipped her porridge in small sips, seemingly unconcerned about their affairs.
Father Zhou smiled and added, “I want to see General Tang, I am also anxious to ask his opinion and to set a date for your marriage.”
Tang Er Yuan’s hand clutching his knife and fork tightened and frowned at father Zhou, “……wedding date?”
“Yes, Er Yuan, since you and Ah Ze have known each other for a long time and you know each other well. Moreover, you have also agreed to Ah Ze’s proposal, then get married quickly, once you are married, your auntie Zhou and I can rest assured. After all, we only have one son, what we want most is for him to start a family soon.”
Mother Zhou snorted and said indifferently, “Who doesn’t know that I only have one son, Ah Ze, but you have more than one son.
Father Zhou looked embarrassed for a moment, gave her a displeased look and reprimanded in a low voice, “The children are here, what are you talking about?”
Zhou Ze gave his mother two chopsticks of food and advised, “Mom, eat.”
Mother Zhou laughed coldly twice and returned to her expressionless appearance, continuing to eat with her head down, only looking at father Zhou with an expression of indescribable disgust.
After reprimanding mother Zhou, father Zhou returned to his smiling and benevolent appearance and looked at Tang Er Yuan, “Er Yuan, your auntie has been ill for a long time and is not in good spirits, so don’t mind.”
Tang Er Yuan shook his head and didn’t say much.
Father Zhou asked again, “When do you want to get married?”
He stared warmly at Tang Er Yuan and even mother Zhou also looked up at Tang Er Yuan, not urging, but looking like she also hoped they could get married soon.
Tang Er Yuan was stunned and said truthfully, “I haven’t considered getting married yet.”
Father Zhou expression instantly became subtle as he glanced at Zhou Ze and asked in a slightly cold voice, “What’s going on here, Ah Ze? Didn’t you say that Er Yuan had already agreed?”
Zhou Ze’s expression panicked for a split second, pulling Tang Er Yuan’s hand under the table without moving, using some slight strength, before smiling at father Zhou, “Father, Er Yuan was joking.”
Tang Er Yuan frowned slightly and broke free.
Zhou Ze took Tang Er Yuan’s hand and didn’t let go, then stood up, “Father, mother, take your time to eat, Er Yuan and I will go to the bathroom.”
Tang Er Yuan was pulled out of his seat by him and his face turned a little ugly. Seems like it was was not as Zhou Ze and was just a simple meeting, but that he had lied to his parents and had coaxed Tang Er Yuan over.
Zhou Ze pulled Tang Er Yuan all the way to a corner away from father Zhou and mother Zhou, then looked at Tang Er Yuan somewhat pleadingly and said, “Er Yuan, I’m sorry for what happened just now, I know you haven’t said yes to my proposal yet but can you put on a show with me first.”
“A show?”
“En.” Zhou Ze nodded, with a difficult look on his face, torn for a moment before he spoke, “Actually, my mother is in a very bad condition, the doctor said she……has three months left.”
“Three months?” Tang Er Yuan understood what he meant and couldn’t help but frown, although mother Zhou was frail and a little paler, she didn’t look like she only had three months left.
“En, we’re hiding it all from her now, so she looks in an okay shape.” Zhou Ze’s eyes flicked from side to side and his hands clenched into fists a little nervously.
Tang Er Yuan didn’t probe the truth of mother Zhou’s story first, only asking, “How do you want me to cooperate with you?”
“Er Yuan, I want you to pretend in front of my parents that you have already agreed to my proposal. I have decided that you are my partner for the rest of my life, I am willing to wait for your answer but my mother’s time is limited. I just want to ask you to lie to her with me first, so that she can spend these three months happily. Don’t worry, before you agree to my proposal, I won’t force you to really marry me. Okay?”
Tang Er Yuan frowned nervously, although he also wished the elders are in good health, he felt that it was not right to deceive the elders to make them happy for a short while, and once the matter was revealed, the elders would be hurt even more.
What’s more, he had no intention of saying yes to Zhou Ze’s proposal right now. He didn’t know what he was hesitating about, only that opening his mouth to say ‘I do’ is very difficult.
And he didn’t like Zhou Ze’s attitude which carried the nature of deception and coercion. If Zhou Ze had made it clear to him in advance, he might have been more willing to cooperate with Zhou Ze.
When Zhou Ze saw that he didn’t open his mouth, he suddenly held his shoulder and said with an anxious expression, “Er Yuan, I’m begging you, this is really important to me.”
He looked a bit grim because he was so anxious.
Tang Er Yuan froze and for a moment, he couldn’t remember what Zhou Ze’s appearance was like when he first liked him.
At this time, Li Can happened to walk around the corner and saw Zhou Ze grimly holding Tang Er Yuan’s shoulder. He couldn’t help his complexion changing and instantly rushed over, pushing Zhou Ze away and shielding Tang Er Yuan behind him, saying in a stern voice, “What are you doing!”
Zhou Ze’s back hit the wall and his face crinkled in pain. He couldn’t help but cry out in pain and it took a moment before he came back to his senses.
He immediately looked at Li Can in anger, remembering Li Can’s identity, forcing down his anger, he gritted his teeth and said, “What happened between Er Yuan and I has nothing to do with you.”
Li Can’s eyes were cold as he looked at him sullenly, “It has to do with me if you bully Yuan Yuan. Zhou Ze, you better be honest with me, if I see you bullying Yuan Yuan again, I will definitely not let you off.”
After he finished, he gave Zhou Ze a warning glance, hugged Tang Er Yuan by the shoulders and pulled him outside, walking extremely fast all the way.
Tang Er Yuan tried to break free slightly but Li Can’s strength was too strong for him to do so, and he didn’t really want to. He didn’t really want to go back to face father Zhou’s hypocritical praise, mother Zhou’s occasional acerbic remarks, and even more so, he didn’t want to accompany Zhou Ze to deceive them.
He suddenly realised that he perhaps didn’t love Zhou Ze as much as he thought he did, and for a moment, was actually a little confused.
Zhou Ze lifted his foot to go after them, but for fear of attracting father Zhou’s and mother Zhou’s attention, he had to stop in his tracks and pounded the wall hard in chagrin, not even daring to utter a louder curse.
When mama Li saw Li Chan dragging Tang Er Yuan away, she immediately lit up and gave father Zhou, who was not far away, a look of triumph.
Father Zhou who didn’t understand: “???”
This woman from the Li family has an eye cramp?
Mama Li withdrew her eyes and smiled gently at Li Xin Ran, “Xin Ran, don’t worry, the matter of sponsoring the costumes won’t be a problem. Call me to let me know when you need it for your movie shooting and I’ll send someone to send the costumes over to you.”
Li Xin Ran nodded happily when he heard that the sponsorship deal was done, “That’s great, thanks auntie.”
Mama Li smiled even more happily, “Can Can has just informed me that he has to leave first, let’s eat and later on, auntie will personally send you back.”
Li Xin Ran didn’t doubt it and bowed his head as he continued to eat, “Sorry for the trouble.”
“No bother, no bother.”
Mama Li thought happily, if she could successfully marry her son-in-law, she could work even harder.
melon: Loving mama Li 🤣
Btw I decided to change mother Li to mama Li because father and mother Zhou is written more properly as 周父 (zhōu fù) & 周母(zhōu mǔ) as opposed to 黎妈妈 (lí mā mā) so I wanted to create some difference. I’ve also changed it in the previous chapter.1乱点鸳鸯谱 (luàn diǎn yuān yāng pǔ): The term “yuan yang (mandarin ducks)” refers to a couple.
