Chapter 534 Should Have Never Existed

"Was it really necessary for you to do that?" The Old Librarian asked when he looked back to the place where Cedric had encountered them.
"Do what? You mean this Shadow guy? Of course, that was fine!" Dilan began to laugh as he recalled how he slapped Cedric, who had once been a powerful God.
The thought of being able to face-slap Gods in the City of Trials was quite satisfying, especially since he felt extremely secure in here.
The Oracle might not have told him about the rules of this place, but that was not necessary because he could sense what he was allowed to do and what was over the top.
That was pretty helpful when encountering a few Soul Shards of formerly powerful True Gods.
"I don't really feel like accepting techniques from desperate Gods. That makes them feel like losers rather than powerful entities that once wielded the power to destroy planets with a snap of their fingers.
Don't you think so?" Dilan asked while turning to the Old Librarian who looked at him in confusion.
"You did not desperately coax me to take your technique. Your approach was different and your sincere feelings were more than enough for me to understand that you are not scheming against me….
Well it's still possible if you're a very very good actor, but I will have to accept my mistake if you are planning to use the Perfect Essence Cultivation technique to do something against me," Dilan said with a shrug after he saw the Old Librarian's face.
"You figured that there were some Soul Shards with bad intentions…how did you come to that conclusion? I mean Cedric was the first Soul Shard you met…" The Old Librarian mumbled in disbelief, feeling unsure what kind of comprehension one required to figure out the bad intentions some Soul Shards had.
"Precisely, Cedric is the second Soul Shard I met. But you were different from him. I don't think any True God would react like Cedric if they were not desperately trying to find a vessel to reincarnate in," Dilan shrugged as he revealed his assumption, but it was at this point when the Old Librarian halted in his tracks.
He stared blankly at Dilan, feeling as if the Universe had found a true monster on its way to be saved.
"How did you figure that?" The Old Librarian was pretty sure that Cedric's behavior was over the top. Nonetheless, coming to the conclusion that the Shadow Demon God wanted to use Dilan to reincarnate just based on what happened moments earlier was crazy.
"I was just making a guess, a pretty good one considering that you too agreed with it just now," Dilan said, still sounding as nonchalant as before.
However, deep down he was getting more careful.
'He tricked me? Or did I trick myself?' The Old Librarian wondered, slowly getting more and more confused.
Dilan didn't stop in his tracks on the way to the training grounds, forcing the Old Librarian to discard his deep thoughts and to rush behind him.
"Do you know everyone, who has the intention to reincarnate? If so, are you allowed to tell me who entered the City of Trials with the genuine intention to pass on their Legacy to the Undying and the Eternal Darkness, and who just entered to simply look for suitable vessels and to reincarnate in the bodies of those who were chosen by the Universe?" Dilan asked, feeling genuinely interested in the answer.
The Old Librarian tried to reach Dilan's side but he didn't answer immediately.
"Nobody knows the true borders of the City of Trials because we never had a Chosen one visiting us. The artificial intelligence of the City of Trials will warn us once we cross the border," He answered honestly, before adding a few words of caution, "It would be best for you not to offend too many Gods in here. Even if you're a Chosen One, it will get troublesome if you want to learn certain techniques, and other former Gods destroy the Soul Shard of the being you wanted to learn from.
They won't even hesitate to sacrifice their own Soul Shard to destroy your future…that's how petty some Gods have become after spending millions of years inside the City of Trials!"
Dilan first thought that the Old Librarian was joking, but after looking at the seriousness in the old man's expression, he changed his opinion.
"Alright, I will hold back…though I will not hide my true personality, just because someone thinks that they can use my body as their vessel to reincarnate in!" Dilan declared, causing the Old Librarian to sigh deeply.
While they both walked through the huge City of Trial, many things attracted Dilan's interest. This included an alley filled with various treasures.
There was one particular object that prevented him from paying attention to anything else than itself.
"This small grain, what is that?" He asked curiously, pointing at the black grain that levitated in a small vitrine. It released powerful darkness currents that were oddly familiar with the weird Demon he had summoned when fighting the Chaos Monsters.
His interest was attracted by that small grain and the potent darkness currents that were barely contained within the glass vitrine.
"Oh, that? Some Gods weren't given the chance to put their Soul Shard inside the City of Trials because it would have caused…certain problems. Let's just put it like that," The Old Librarian said, his eyes trembling in fear when he recalled something in particular as he looked at the tiny grain.
"So…what is that? Is it some sort of Divinity Fragment, or some sort of special power of a former God?" Dilan asked, pressing the Old Librarian to tell him what the hell he was just looking at.
"It's quite literally a Fragment of a God. A portion of his compressed power, if you want to say so. Explaining more to you would be over the top because your knowledge about Gods is still very shallow. Maybe you will understand more once you studied a bit," The Old Librarian said in hesitance, still avoiding giving him the true and complete answer.
Dilan didn't say anything further but he stared deeply at the Old Librarian, who began to frown as well.
"You are really annoying…you know that?" He asked and Dilan nodded his head with a prideful expression. "That was not a compliment!"
"I think of it as a compliment though!"
"O….okay…."
"This is a dead God's Fragment, one of the scariest Gods that had ever existed. His Power is not something the Universe can handle when it goes berserk. That is also why most higher Lifeforms say that this power should never return…never!" The Old Librarian finally revealed the truth.
Dilan was thankful for the Old Librarian's vast knowledge but the information he received made him just more curious.
"If the power should never return, and the God has been killed or died due to natural causes, why is that God's Fragment not destroyed yet?" He asked the most important question, a question the Old Librarian had already expected after everything Dilan had asked up till now.
"Because that's the Universe's Will!"
