A Star Reborn: The Queen’s Return Chapter 1283

Chapter 1283: Miss Xia, Please Hold On
Wei Lingnan looked at her as his demeanor got even colder.
Xia Yingluo stared at him without fear.
A while later, Wei Lingnan smiled, albeit an unconvincing one. “You always have a way to make me angry.”
Xia Yingluo didn’t hold back. “Likewise.”
This exchange left both of them unhappy, and Wei Lingnan decided to just leave the operating theater. In the hallway, Zhao Yixuan had vanished, and all that was left were the all-too-bright lights.
Xia Yingluo left the room too and said, “Remember to get the doctors and other personnel back into their original state.”
Wei Lingnan glanced at her, let out a sneer and left.
This man was so hot-tempered.
Xia Yingluo thought, Isn’t it just because he’s an alien? That seems to give him the right to do anything he wants. But hopefully, he’d never be able to make her do anything against her wishes.
The wait along the long hallway was an apprehensive one. A while later, the doors to the operating theater swung open and a few medical personnel walked out.
“Congratulations, Miss Xia.” One of the doctors removed his mask and gloves and said with a smile, “The patient is out of the woods now, she just needs some rest.”
Xia Yingluo heaved a sigh of relief. This time not for Jin Ling’er, but for the medical personnel.
The medical personnel left, completely oblivious to what had just happened. They were having their own little discussions. “Director Zhao is even more skilled than before now. It’s sort of a miracle that this girl survived…”
“Exactly, no wonder the professor said he had to learn from him too…”
The voices became more distant.
Jin Ling’er was moved to the normal ward and Xia Yingluo went to accompany her. The next day, Jin Ling’er woke up and was excited to see Xia Yingluo. “Yingluo, did we escape? Are you alright, did they do anything to you?”
Xia Yingluo was very touched. Jin Ling’er herself had just had a close call with death, but the first thing she asked about when she woke up was whether Xia Yingluo was alright. “We’re out of there,” she said. “I’m completely fine, and the doctor said your injury isn’t anything much to worry about now. Ling’er, how could you be so careless? Don’t ever fight with others with a knife for me again.”
Jin Ling’er smiled foolishly. “When I saw that Pei Yan was about to cut your face, I was too worried to think about anything else.” A girl’s face was very important. If she was disfigured, what was she to do?
Xia Yingluo grabbed her hand. “Silly girl.”
They chatted for a while and Jin Ling’er asked, “How did we get out of there?”
Xia Yingluo told her the parts that she could reveal, and couldn’t help but think of Wei Lingnan. That man had done so much for her this time, but she’d given him such a scolding. Had she gone too far?
She looked a little sad as she thought about that.
Then, the doors to the ward were opened and in came Jin Ling’er’s family members. The previous night, Zhao Yixuan had given Jin Ling’er’s family members a call, and they’d rushed back from overseas and arrived only now. Xia Yingluo let them have their time and took her leave.
Outside the hospital, the skies were blue and the weather was great.
Xia Yingluo looked up at the sky and hesitated for a moment before flagging a cab down and heading to Wei Lingnan’s company.
The lady at the front desk asked if she’d made an appointment.
She said, “Tell him I’m Xia Yingluo, he’ll see me.”
The front desk made a call and relayed her message, but her response was, “I’m sorry, Miss Xia. Manager Wei is busy at the moment, he won’t be seeing anyone.”
Xia Yingluo was disappointed. Was he still angry with her? That’d be too petty of him. If anyone was to get angry, it should be Xia Yingluo herself. She’d been mistaken for someone else for so long and had to bear with him as a nuisance.
She’d come to reconcile with Wei Lingnan initially. She was a rich Miss, after all, and had never needed to apologize formally to anyone, so it wasn’t a surprise that she felt a little awkward. Now that Wei Lingnan rejected her, she couldn’t help but get upset at him. She turned around and left while muttering to herself. “Seriously? What a jerk.”
She’d gone pretty far out when someone called out to her from behind, “Is this Miss Xia? Please hold on a moment.”
Xia Yingluo turned around and saw that it was an elderly person she’d never seen before. The elderly lady was dressed in a researcher’s uniform and was looking at her. “Who are you?” Xia Yingluo asked.
The old lady said, “I’m Mr. Wei’s assistant, I’m responsible for taking care of him. Mr. Wei isn’t in a very good state now, please follow me to have a look!”
Xia Yingluo felt a prick to her heart. “Wasn’t he alright last night?”
“Mr. Wei rushed out to look for you the moment he received your call.” The old lady said, “You’re no outsider, so I’ll be honest with you. When he used teleportation, a lot of his energy was lost in a short moment. Also, saving a life isn’t as easy as he made it out to be. Conversely, it is rather harmful to his body. Mr. Wei once said that the energy on Earth is weak and small in magnitude, and every day on Earth, he expends more energy than he absorbs, so every bit of it is actually precious to him. This time, he used up too much of it in a short span of time, and he can’t recover so quickly. When you came to look for him just now, he was busy receiving treatment in the laboratory, that’s why he couldn’t see you.”
Xia Yingluo was taken aback. “The lady at the front desk said he was busy.”
“Mister didn’t want you to worry, so he lied.”
Xia Yingluo felt bad. Images of Wei Lingnan’s handsome face and cold expression came to mind. She simply couldn’t believe that this man would lie to her for fear that she’d be worried about him. But she knew that this old lady wasn’t lying, for it wasn’t hard to verify it. She hurriedly said, “Take me to see him.”
The old lady felt comforted that this Miss Xia had a conscience after all. She nodded and quickly took her to the underground laboratory.
The elevator descended.
Xia Yingluo was all panicky, she kept silent throughout the journey there.
The old lady said, “Forgive me for my directness, but you were a little harsh with your words just now.”
Xia Yingluo was a little stunned.
The old lady went on, “There’s a surveillance camera installed at the front desk. Upon hearing that you arrived, Mister hurriedly turned on the screen, despite the condition he was in. He can lip-read, and saw that you were scolding him.”
Xia Yingluo was speechless now. Wasn’t she just saying a few words about him, did he have to go this far?
Even so, the moment she thought about Wei Lingnan’s condition, she felt guilt fester inside her.
